A request for future crafting proffs

Just as enchanters can disenchant, it would be wonderfully helpful if all crafter could do the same thing for the gear items created by them or collected. So LW could disassemble leather and mail gear, Blacksmiths the same for metal and so on.

If you want to look on it from a real world situation, any garment can be picked apart for its cloth, metal items can be either taken apart or melted down, etc. It would at least give crafters the chance to get a little extra materials, they could always put in talents to improve the chance of a successful disassembly and to improve the amount they get, and so on.

It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time. The closest we got to it was the thingy in Legion that you could put gear items into, to get something back.

I’ve always thought it would be nice. Especially as a way to make use of bind-on-pickup or bind-on-equip gear that you earn, but don’t want to just vendor. A little perk for being a blacksmith, leatherworker, tailor, maybe even engineer. Maybe jewelcrafters could pick apart rings, necklaces, and trinkets.

Heck, make that a dedicated branch on the respective profession trees so people can spec into it if they really want.

I’m sure there are lots of economy-based reasons why people don’t think it would work, but it’s a nice thought.

Basically take BFA scrapping, but broken into separate profession abilities for each of the relevant gear types?

Didn’t blacksmithing used to let you smelt gear to get metal bars back or am I thinking of a different game. Hell, I’m getting old I could be imagining it all. Seems like I did this at some point.

1995 Ultima Online (maybe still around?) had this technology. Armor to ingots, robes to cloth bolts, etc…
I always thought it would be nice to have something like that in Warcraft.

…they also had a dye tub with black. :slightly_smiling_face:
