I, as well as a majority of the Beast Master Hunters I believe, do not like that talent-node ‘Howl of the Pack Leader’. Please change it as soon as possible, because we don’t like being forced to use pets that don’t appeal to us.
I agree, he’s cool, but I don’t want to be forced to BE him thematically, nor do I want to be forced into Dark Ranger because of Blizzard’s mistake with the change they made to the talent-node.
well thats kind of the point of hero talents, we are forced into being a hunter that fights using the power of elune, a hunter that fights like a dark ranger, a hunter that fights using rexxar’s techniques. every class is like that. night elf mountain thanes, vulpera dark rangers, draenei heralds of the sun, it’s all thematically a wreck.
Okay, but need we use exactly Rexxar’s pets instead of just making good use of temporary summons similarly to how Rexxar did?
We can be based on hero NPCs, including even Rexxar, without having to, say, give up the choice of which Cunning / Tenacity / Ferocity beast species to use as our temporary summons. Why not just take their appearance from the nearest (most primary-ordered) slotted or stabled pet of the given family or characteristic, merely defaulting to Rexxar’s if none are available and allowing one to override to his on toggle of some ability we needn’t even include on our hotbars?
Among Hunters’? The extent of excessively narrow encroachment / the net loss in impactful customization of identity one would otherwise enjoy having.
A Dark Ranger opts to be dark; they don’t have to opt into outright being Sylvanus. A Sentinel opts into Elunite magics; they don’t have to outright opt into being Tyrande.
Were Dark Rangers forced to retcon their personalities periodically or Sentinels to speak in grating accent, it’d be a toss-up, but given how things stand, Pack Leader sees the most excessively narrow tangible Hero NPC influence and therefore the most value in offering back a bit of customization.
I mean, if you were forced to (still) run a single skin of Hati for picking Animal Companion, would the throwback lore connection between worth losing choice over which beasts you have present with you in the Beast Mastery spec of all things?
Gods forbid one might want the extent of customizability within a chosen theme after the introduction of hero talents as before them?
The grand menagerie of beasts available for us to tame. Why limit us to just three from an already established Hero, when we should be able to pick and choose the Beasts we want given to us by Blizzard?
But, oh no, the ‘concessions will never end’! It’s an outrage, taking away a Beast Master’s freedom of choice they’ve had for decades! /sarcasm
Howl of the Pack Leader should summon a Dire Beast instead of the static beasts so you can use your Stable with the Glyph, or just let it be a random zone-related beast.
Honestly this is how I feel about using any pet in PvP. Since you have to use mortal wounds you don’t really get a choice
I mean I just like this in general. I’m even fine with it being limited if they still want flavor. Gives you a reason to collect more pets.
Perhaps one pet of bird/feathermane/etc, raptor, cat, boar, etc, one bear, blank etc.
That way each would be unique, you’d basically divide all the families of pets into 3 ish with all creatures that can fly, all agressive or cunning pets, all tanky pets. Maybe limiting it to larger pets so it actually shows up visually.
At the very least it wouldn’t be too much to have a glyph for a couple different creature types for the slots. Alliance could take a gryphon instead of wyverns, or hunters could take a feathermane from legion (the unique tame quest). You get the picture.
I think the talent is fine. Aspects of it are annoying though.
Wyvern spawns overhead and blocks my view. By far the most annoying part of the talent.
Boar likes to spawn over the edge of platforms and get stuck.
Bear either pulls agro or gets hit by AoE and dies quickly.
Additionally, the fact that they filled up the Hero tree with three talents that individually buff each pet seems lazy. Especially when the Bear node is the only choice node. All three should be choice nodes.
I really want the option to replace the 3 pets summoned by this ability with pets from my stable. Having Ban’thalos soaring overhead in place of the wyvern would already feel way more Sentinel-flavored than…well, the entire Sentinel hero spec. I’d probably just replace the bear with a different bear, but replacing the boar with a stag or hippogryph would also be awesome.
Still don’t understand why Dark Ranger is so intensely thematic to its concept while Sentinel is barely there. Pack Leader feels very thematic but only to Rexxar, not us and our pets. Having a flying pet actually fly over the battlefield is awesome, I just want it to be my flying pet. The one I tamed and formed an actual bond with. Not Rexxar’s pets. My character has never met him. Why is he giving us his pets anyway? Doesn’t he need them?
Have Boar linear charges be based on character facing (if I’m facing target, it charges through me and target in line, if I’m facing 90 degrees right of target, it charges at same angle through target, cutting left to right across enemies);
Wyvern to be mostly transparent if near camera (larger sphere around camera for checking this);
Create an extra action (or other means) that allows you to assign each summon’s appearance from among your stabled or carried pets; and maybe…
Have Boar charges be triggered individually by casts of Kill Command over the period Boar is active, instead of going off automatically.
SO much this. We should be able to spec these abilities into our pets. I dont know why I cant have choice and options in my pets, seems so arbitrarily restrictive.
Why cant I have a cat that has MS? I just want to play with a cat that has MS in PvP.
