A Quick Classic Question

Hi, this is my first time playing a hunter this soon into WoW’s life. I’ve played a hunter at either the end of MoP or at the start of WoD, i don’t remember exactly.

Anyways with that aside i have some questions, I’m playing a dwarf hunter and for the the level 10 quest you’re to train some animals and afterwards you’re given the feed ability. That’s fine and all… but I had noticed when I was training the ice claw bear it had a special ability where it could slow attacks by 100% for a few seconds on a minute cooldown. I eventually lost control of the bear in the quest and later came back to train one and get the ability back. I think he may have had it when i retamed him BUT i noticed a little bit later it was gone and replaced with claw.

Do pets get unique abilities like ice claw you can level up or are those just there for a little while and eventually as you domesticate the animal the abilities are lost? Thanks.

So quick answer is no they do not get unique abilities.

Some pets when tamed do get standard abilities like Claw, Bite, and Screech though. This is important because as you level you will need to tame new pets and learn the higher ranks of said abilities.

Ideally you will want to keep one pet while you level and then stable it while you tame other pets to get higher skills of its abilities. Once learned these abilities will be added to your pet training ability which you can then teach to your stabled pet.
