With all the stuff going on about the Mage Tower and appearances, I sat down to take a look at what druid appearances I had. And it appears I am missing some, wondered if I could get some input.
One of the Artifact bear forms is “Guardian of the Glade”. It comes in 4 different colours and for some reason I only have one of them, the 3rd out of 4. Im not sure how I managed to have the 3rd without having the first, because these tended to unlock with a first appearance and then you got the others in various ways. The 2nd is from needing to do 30 Legion dungeons, which I certainly did and 4th is 1000 honorable kills which Im also pretty sure I got from doing bgs back then. It just seems odd to have the 3rd one but not the first and second.
If anyone has any idea why Im missing these Id love to know. I have tried to check it out on wowhead but there doesnt seem to be any real detail or info in comments etc about it.
After that you would have to unlock the other skins, which I THINK are done retroactively.
The best way would be to just go kill Ursoc on all 4 difficulties, then again after reset if it hasn’t dropped yet and you made RNGeesus mad. I’m not certain if you have to be guardian spec or have loot set to guardian to make it drop for you or not.
OK, Ill try the raid thing, thanks. From comments Ive read you dont have to be in guardian but I think you need to have the artifact at least in your bags.
I recall that there was 1 chance a week for it to drop. But maybe I am misremembering.
It took me years to get that, because it’s a rare drop in a raid. Meanwhile, my fire mage had hers drop off a random mob while doing a class hall quest. And at least one spec was able to purchase it from a vendor.
At least I had already unlocked all 4 tints on a rogue so she could use the purple thunderfury appearance. You only have to do a hidden appearance unlock once per account.
So basically, it was the same unfair distribution that they repeated with legendary memories.
I think the third form was bugged back in Legion. I have it as well and have never seen the first form drop in the few times I did Emerald Nightmare. I did run many normal dungeons solo during Legion.
I have this issue on this character: I have tint 2 and 3 of the secret/hidden subtlety artifact appearance, but not tint 1. Why? Well it seems that unlocking tint 1 for outlaw and assassination and then tints 2 and 3 was sufficient to unlock the tints for the other spec too.
So maybe you unlocked the base tint on other specs.
Is it possible you got a different weapon’s hidden appearance and then did the necessary prerequisite to unlock the third form for Guardian of the Glade? If you unlock a second tier appearance of something you have the base of, it unlocks that tier’s appearance for every single other artifact.
So say, you got the hidden Resto appearance and then did 30 Legion dungeons, your hidden Feral, Guardian and Balance ones will unlock as well, but only the 30 Legion dungeon color.
I think so. It appears tht I got the Claws of Ursoc on my Alliance druid but I appear not to have done that artifact on my Horde one. It was such a long time I just couldnt remember which characters did what. But because I had done it on the Alliance toon, the Horde druid had access to the 3rd skin but not those that relied on my character having the artifact while doing certain things.
So I have to go back and try and get the artifact for that character. Im still researching what I need to do but its not intuitive at all ingame and the outside sources arent helping much atm.
Do you know if you have to be in Prot spec and have the artifacts equipped to get the items you need, or is it just choosing Prot spec for gear drop and having the legendary in your bag?
Hidden artifact appearances have to be unlocked. You can progress them on alt hidden weapons if you unlocked one on any spec. But if you didn’t unlock the primary appearance on one spec you still have to do the traditional unlock, even though you have access to it’s other variants.
Like I could use sub rogue hidden tints that I hadn’t unlocked and didn’t get the primary one until I did the MoP scenario I was supposed to for it last.
Bring your artifacts to your class halls to see your progress on the alternate variants. Mage tower skins were time-locked. But the others should still be obtainable.
Yes I know they have to be unlocked, and assuming I have done that, Im asking if going after the other things the question as I said is: if I say go into Emerald Nightmare raid to fight Ursoc (or whatever it happens to be along the way) do I NEED to be in prot and do I NEED to equip the artifact while doing it?
No you don’t need to be in guardian spec, I would just keep your artifacts in your bag just in case, and do mythic versions. (While transmog hunting). I have gotten other hidden artifacts on my alliance alts without artifacts and had to fetch them in my bank for them to unlock so I could have more bag space. I don’t think it works like that but I would keep them in your bags anyway just in case. You do not need to have the artifact equipped either.
Here it will tell you all the hidden appearances just in case.
You are shooting for this on your Emerald Nightmare runs.
the secret artifact appearances tend to be kind of wonky, if you’ve unlocked the first variant for one spec, you’re also able to unlock the 2nd 3rd and 4th for other specs even if you haven’t gotten their secret appearance
The weirdness for me is that I have one Guardian of the Glade appearance, which is the one for doing 200 world quests) and yet I have none of the others, including the base one. Ive looked at every other druid I could have played back then and none of them have anything different. Its just odd to have one appearance without having unlocked the base one. Unless I have completely overlooked a druid somewhere. But if I had, wouldnt it show on my currently active ones?
This was a bug that came from tints being character wide.
Cause with most skins, the tint unlock could be done across any spec, since with the exception of Mage Tower and Secret artifact appearances, you earned all your specs appearances at once for doing balance of power, the order hall campaign, etc.
Which meant if you unlocked a hidden artifact on ANY spec and unlocked tint 2, 3 or 4, you could access those tints on your other specs which hadn’t unlocked tint 1.
I think they fixed that bug since I don’t remember it happening for MT skins, but I don’t think they removed the tints from players who unlocked them like that.
I know I have a lot of appearances for specs I never played. My monk has access to legion appearances, and I’ve never had a monk get an artifact.
I’m a little doubtful that they put in effective bad luck protection. I never heard about that at the time, and then I got it twice in a week during BfA.
