A problem with the Hero Talents

A glaring problem I see with some of the Hero Talents is that some of them are reliant on certain talent choices. So what does that mean? Are classes forced to choose those talents to make use of the hero classes? If that’s the case, then why don’t they make those talents baseline instead, and fill in the gap with new abilities?

Edit: Yes I meant Hero Talents. Sorry.

Could you provide some examples, please?

An easy one is both the Retribution hero trees require Wake of Ashes, which an amusingly amount of people don’t want to take.

I think they are insane for not taking one of the coolest abilities Ret has but there ya go.

Well I can’t get my characters a vacation because someone always is going to destroy Azeroth whenever I get to it :rage: , I guess that is a hero problems

Druid - Elune’s Chosen requires Fury of Elune/New Moon/Lunar Beam. Keeper of the Grove requires Grove Guardians/Force of Nature.

Paladin - Templar requires Wake of Ashes/Eye of Tyr. Herald of the Sun requires Wake of Ashes/Holy Prism/Barrier of Faith.

Priest - Archon requires Halo. Voidweaver require Void Torrent(Oddly only needs Mind Blast in Discipline which Shadow also has.)

Shaman - Farseer requires Primordial Wave/Unleash Life.

Oh, you said hero classes and I assumed you meant DK and DH.

It’s interesting the way development has gone on herot talents (I assume that’s what you meant). I remember originally they wanted you to be able to play hero talents on any build you enjoy and not feel forced into one.

Yet almost every hero talent tree has a required talent build choice. The only ones that feel like they give full freedom on build are the ones that grant a new ability.

It seems to go against the philosophy they originally stated but I’m not entirely against it. Like being a shadow priest throwing halos out like crazy is cool. I’ll gladly pick halo for that.

Or like, Slayer. Even though I wont be using that spec it sounds really cool with bladestorms popping off like a helicopter while executing like crazy.

Heck I fooled around with Farseer and I loved it while using the Lava Burst build. Constantly summoning ancestors to help fight was so cool.

But I’m also a filthy casual who plays what they like so :person_shrugging:

Same. OP means hero talents.
This discussion is no longer interesting

The problem with hero classes is that you are stuck in a starter zone for an hour.

I was confused as well. It’s not just you!

OP, you’re talking about hero talents, not hero classes. Might want to fix that in your post. Hehe

Also: this really isn’t any different than if they had put them at the bottom of the talent tree. One side is for one set of talents, one side is for another.

So why is it a talent choice and not baseline? Again, the idea of talent trees was for us to customize our classes? Otherwise, why bring them back?

Because only giving us passive talents is boring and mundane and gives us little to work towards and confuses pathing. WoA is there for you to want and to route towards to drive you further towards capstones.

The fact that Paladins exist out there that don’t take WoA is scary, it’s like people figuring out that they could have two legs but decide to only use one.

Or. Or. Or. They could bring back removed abilities and rework them to better fit the spec. Make WoA baseline, and add Exorcism as an alternate choice. Single Target but does heavy damage, grants 3 HP, and forces them to take extra holy damage. Something along those lines.

WoA is good, I won’t deny that. But if it’s that good and mandatory, then why is it a talent choice? Especially since Ret’s two Hero Specs both require WoA. You’re forcing players to pick a talent to make use of them. That’s not good design.

Might as well not bring back talent trees in the first place and revert back to what we had from MoP to SL.

Unsurprisingly. The hero talents are just another talent row with a fancy name.

Not really much of an expansion feature.

I just hope my hero talents aren’t garbage…

Wait… I’m a heroic class… my talents are heroic talents already …

My biggest problem with them is that there is an illusion of a choice. They are just more wowhead copy paste bullcrap. I was lookin at totemic resto shaman. It has to be totemic. Theres no chance for farseer. Prot warrior is gonna be mountain thane. The illusion of choice is what kills me.

Shaman Totemic requires taking Windfury totem or you can’t place the main feature, surging totem. On top of that it requires so so many talents to get to get most of the functionality out of it, I say most because we simply don’t have enough talent points for spec tree to get full functionality due to how poorly it was designed.

Yes, hero talents are meant to work with other talents. They’re not meant to exist in isolation.

Unless you’re Stormbringer Elemental then it just doesn’t work.

what backwards butt paladins are you finding that dont wanna take wake of ashes >.> is this why i see so many bad paladins around cos they dont want to press an extra button

^ This. I haven’t seen a single Paladin all expansion not use Wake of Ashes.
