There is a lot of arguments going around about what restrictions Blizzard should make and enforce to provide a “Hardcore experience”. However, everyone has different opinions and not everyone is on-board with the same set of rules. Some people want a restrictive rule set to make the “Hardcore experience” challenging and satisfying. Some people just want a “death = delete” experience.
I propose that instead of making hard restrictions that dictate what interactions players can do, we have a small (3?) number of buff flags. Every new character gets the buffs and they only go away when you perform a violating action. You can NEVER gain them back.
The Buffs
-
Self Made: You lose this buff by accepting any trade from a player. You also lose it by receiving or sending any items or gold in the mail. Lastly, you lose it by putting any item up for auction or by bidding/buying an item in the auction house. (Note: You can still send and receive text mail and browse the AH.)
-
Lone Wolf: You lose this buff by joining/forming a group with other players.
-
Outdoors Person: You lose this buff by entering a dungeon or battleground.
I think that with this buff system, players will still be free to play as they want (and create their own Hardcore experience), while still being able to identify peers that are playing the game with the same restrictions as them.
