I see a lot of BM hunter main’s discussing their classes and changes to it but hardly survival hunters. How are you all feeling about survival?
The new changes feel pretty nice to me. I like how rapidly our cooldowns replenish with the sentinel build. Butchery always felt like a pain to add in and now feels worth it. We can spin up AOE damage really well in dungeons right now. I do wish the owl would follow our target like the Voidweaver priest orb does.
Our versatility in dungeons is actually pretty nice. We have melee interrupt timing, good damage prevention, we can self cleanse which is nice during an affix like this weeks, and we have great AOE stunning and slows.
I have noticed that sometimes I am able to trigger multiple explosive shots from one CD but in reading through my talents I am not sure how this work if anyone can guide me on this one.

Overall I like the changes, I like that pack leader is closer to being a good choice but for me its still not there, you have so many more globals to do not much better dps.
The change to butchery and our aoe tool kit was interesting, odd at first but now feels great to me. It does make me a bit mad that our burst aoe did take something of a hit and I do not like the changes to Bombardier esp for ST but overall I like the spot SV is in right now, we have good steady aoe pressure and our ST damage even in dungeons is really strong.

I just switched from BM to survival and holy cow the damage is night and day. Whether you do ST or AOE if just feels really nice to see how you destroy the dps meter. Hopefully Blizzard doesn’t read my post and nerf the spec into the trash with BM and MM

The triple Explosive Shot is from when Bombardier ends. It used to just give 2 free casts.

I really like survival. I like the recent changes to butchery, it feels better. I also kinda like that it plays a role in my single target rotation now.
As far as ways to improve the spec, I’d really like it if camouflage played a larger role in the class fantasy. Let me be Arnold in Predator. Also, Hunter’s Mark probably could use some QOL updates.

Been playing surv since beginning of this xpac. love it. pvp.
I think my favorite thing from a play style perspective are the many “mid-range” abilities that allow me to stay out of the apparently limitless melee-focused boss abilities without totally giving up on doing damage. But that isn’t new for SV.
Yes, in aoe it feels much better and bustier however in single target you no longer get 2 extra explosive shots so imo it feels worse. It use to be a fun single target ability.
it ate up a lot of gcds with the old version

which was fine for me in ST, aoe i understand the concern and the change was nice but I liked it in ST
SV is in an amazing spot, it outshines bm and MM in cleave, st, aoe, and it’s gear is basically universal for all modes of the game without needing to farm large amounts of different secondary stat set-ups. It also has more sustain, and great damage on all fronts outside of major cds.
Sounds great, until you realize that most people rolled hunter to play range. Granted, SV is 50%+ range too, but you get what I mean.
i started with wow in bfa and played lots of survival, i’m really glad to see the glow-up it got over the years
I have been playing BM but want to try Survival. Is there a quick guide to the rotation, pet choice, etc?
I miss our longer melee range, which made sense, since we used polearms. Some mobs/bosses hitboxes are so tiny you’re practically standing on each other.

The last boss of mists bugs me so much for this. Such a big boss such a tiny hit box. Plus all the constant mechanic vomit left on the ground eating up space for melee. Should have a bigger hit box.
both wowhead and icy-veins have good guides on our rotation priority. imo wowhead’s is more digestible in its presentation, but that could just be me
as for pet choice, the main differences compared to BM are that we don’t have exotic beasts (so no clefthoof; scalehide is the next best substitute there) and that our damage is more weighted toward the hunter, so we get more personal benefit from leech rather than having it mostly heal our pet

Beats in ST? Thats not what logs are saying at all. BM is still top for ST.
I would play it though but our guild is full on melee and need range xD
I am an enhancement shaman main. Was interesting in alting a survival hunter because it looked fun and I am used to complexity … it’s very fun so far!
I have never really played a hunter before or been able to get into it becuase it could just play elemental instead of marksman … bm is cool but too simple for me.
Survival on the other hand has caught my attention

Yep, same. Enhance main but Survival has been my main alt since we got melee in legion.
There’s a lot of similarities in having the ability to do respectable ranged damage while focusing on melee yet they are different enough not to feel redundant.

It’s nice to hear so many of you enjoying it. I can’t, personally. I don’t do melee + pet.
I’d maybe consider it if I could take lone wolf and had enough survivability to do melee without a pet, but as is, melee + pet isn’t a fantasy I enjoy at all. I’d much prefer warrior/frost dk/rogue for my own fantasy.
It is nice to see so many of you enjoying it, though.
