A phrase I just don't understand in this game, and many others

“Don’t like it, don’t play.”

Doesn’t sound like too bad of a suggestion at first, right?

If you don’t like MMOs, don’t play.

If you don’t like First Person Shooters, don’t play those.

Etc., etc., etc…

But when used in a game like, WoW, for instance… it doesn’t make sense.

“Don’t like it, don’t play.”

Okay, I won’t.

Then you guys act all surprised when, lo and behold, you log on and the game seems waaay deader than it ever has.

Maybe stop with the mentality of, “Don’t like it, don’t play it” while you stick your fingers in your ears and go, “lalala” and just… look at the state of this game.

Jesse Cox said in regards to Asmongold, “He’ll stay subbed, because people will watch him get negative about the game.”

Wouldn’t… wouldn’t it be better if he was saying positive things about the game?

Wouldn’t more people want to play if there were GOOD THINGS to talk about the game?

The idea that you should shut up and quit the game instead of trying to give feedback and tips on how to make the game better is some of the most backwards thinking I’ve ever seen. It’s not even a good comeback, it’s watching your drunk friend shoot himself in the foot.

Blizzard did amazing with Legion. I know they can make a good expansion again. They listened to people’s feedback during WoD, and really put the hammer to the anvil with Legion. It was freaking amazing, and probably the most fun I’ve had in this game since I joined in Cataclysm.

I got into my first really serious raiding guild, that’s now dead because everyone’s left save for a handful of people that just use the guild discord to chat. Half the people in there don’t even have active subs, it’s just a place where we can keep in contact with friends we made on this game.

I loved the lore, I leveled all the classes to 120 so I could see all the class halls, all the polish, all the heart that really got put into that expansion.

Sure I wasn’t the biggest fan of the weapon thing, but compared to the necklace… I’d take the weapon hand over fist back, thank you.

TLDR; ‘Don’t like it, don’t play it’ is like shooting yourself in the foot. You should WANT people to play the game, you should WANT the game to be fun, you SHOULDN’T be gleeful little children when streamers and YouTubers start leaving, you dummies, that’s kind of the whole point of an MMO, and the fact some of you act so surprised when you see people leaving in droves after getting one someone’s case saying that stupid phrase is mind boggling.

So… what would you have people do when the game starts to deteriorate and Blizz ignores everything people complain about hating nowadays? Just keep pouring more lemon juice in the papercut?

Of course people are going to quit. Blizz sees numbers. They don’t seem to read feedback most often. Numbers go down, they wake up and fix things. We complain, they sip their tea and keep going without a care.

Do you have a solution to Blizz not listening to the major issues we have?

Did… did you read what I said?

My point is that people should listen to the complaints we have, instead of telling them “Don’t like it, don’t play”.

Yes. I did read.

Did you read what I asked?

How do you plan on getting Blizz to listen to the feedback people have actually given and which has been ignored?

Because if you haven’t noticed, this forum is full of both rants and actual constructive feedback. All of which is ignored.

Telling Blizz how amazing their game is doesn’t fix the glaring issues.

It’s beyond feedback now unfortunately. The core of the game is rotten. It needs a major overhaul before people find WoW rewarding and fulfilling again. By making WoW accessable and trying to appeal to everyone, they’ve effectively made a game for no one.

The point, was that there isn’t much ‘good’ to say about the game at the moment. There are positives about BfA, but for a lot of the people leaving, (IE, those that are getting told ‘Don’t like it, don’t play’) the negatives outweigh the positives by… a lot.

As for getting Blizz to listen… like, freaking look at the damn videos of streamers and YouTubers that have helped you. As you’ve stated, there are plenty of people speaking about the bad things.

I never said Blizz’s game, at least not as is, is amazing. I loved LEGION, not BfA. I thought I outlined that pretty clearly when I said my guild was basically dead as a door nail.

I think you’re both right but not about each other, honestly

One of you is talking about the white knights who knee jerk at all criticism and gloat when people who say things they don’t like leave. The other is saying that useful criticism has already been given and habitually ignored, and that people quitting is about the only thing they’ll look at. You’re both ultimately railing at the same head-in-the-sand mentality and I’m not entirely sure why you ended up at each other’s throats.

I don’t remember being at anyone’s throat. I just responded. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The problem is that if people start concentrating on the good, which yes there are indeed good parts, then it will glaze over the seriousness of the issues at hand. Or it becomes almost condescending, much like…Hey this part of the game is great, BUT, this part stinks; and vice versa. It’s not really a compliment, and even with proper constructive feedback given, it will devolve into a US vs Them mentality, splitting up the player base even more

Honestly for my 2 pennies, I don’t like the idea of “Don’t like it, Don’t play” because of the simple reason that the less players there are, then there is less likelihood the company will innovate and create.

At the end of the day however, if a consumer feels that their issues aren’t being addressed, then they will simply not play, or pay. Leading us to the same conclusion of less innovation or creation. So right now players have the choice to ride the coaster that Blizzard has made and see where it ends, or get off, either way an end of something is coming. What that end is, who knows.

Obviously the only way blizz will listened is if we punch them in their wallets which is what im doing. Yeah people say “Haha im sure 15$ means a lot to them!” But then my friend unsubs and his friend unsubs cause his friend isn’t subbed. Then kinda just snowballs, a lot of forum users who defend blizz by every action never look at the bigger picture >.>

Ya I wasn’t at anyone’s throat either, I was just responding and more or less confused lol.

Yup. Exactly.

We can sit here and talk about which expansion we all liked the best, but it doesn’t fix the current problems.

I don’t watch streamers. And I don’t know exactly what you’re trying to say, because this is the first thing.you mentioned about streamers:

Asking streamers to talk positive to get more players? Why? So that Blizz can see their numbers go up and blindly dance for joy that their crap expansion is “doing well?”

But what confuses me is that you first said to get streamers to talk positive… and then said streamers are helping by talking negative? I think I’m missing something in translation.

I know you didn’t say that. I never said.you did. I simply said that talking positive isn’t going to fix the current issues. Neither is ranting. But we’ve also given constructive feedback and been ignored. We’ve consistently outlined what we liked about old xpacs and been ignored-- or they ruined those by trying to implement them in a new way.

People got bitter. Some use the phrase you’re complaining about. But ultimately, people will choose their own path. They’re not just going to listen to someone’s snark in trade chat or here.

Not sure people are actually leaving in droves but who the heck acts surprised when people leave? That’s a false statement designed to make people look stupid.

I say don’t like it, find something you do because I don’t think video games should be a subject of angst. That doesn’t make me a dummy but thanks for the insult anyway.

Philosophy appears to be based on instant gratification yet they have a massive barrier to entry on the content (120 levels + AP + lack of teaching of importance of mechanics).
The game feels full of contradictions, like it wants to be one thing but doesn’t want to let go of another. In the end it just results in being a game that feels ultimately unfulfilling for a large group of players whilst also not being accessible to the player base it seems like it is supposed to be targeting.

Not everyone feels this way.

EA used this phrase for Battlefield V and its doing fine because of it.

Look at the outlets this game has.
It’s effectively died.

There’s 1 relevant twitch streamer, and maybe 2-3 youtubers.

As opposed to dozens before all this accessibility.

Why is this relevant? Because yt and ttv are basically free advertisement s.

I have watched a few streamers, but after I myself have experienced the content. It’s like a movie, I don’t trust critics. I need to experience it for myself and let me be the judge of what I like or don’t.

I don’t like the idea of any company going to streamers and going “Hey, say something good about our stuff.” Because inevitably the question is going to be, “Are they compensating the streamer?” Especially in times of major negativity, regardless of true or not, that streamer’s credibility takes a hit, as well as the company for seeming to pay for positive reviews to drum up business.

Definitely agree with you. It seems like the game is ok for the super super casuals and the hardcore esports types. But everyone in the middle, which is the majority of players, is left with a hollow game.

Please tell me which aspects of BFA make you feel rewarded and fulfilled. No troll, honest question.
