A pet battle only server 2024

I ask for this every year, but since a new one will soon begin,
I would love to see a pet battle only server where PB’s who have no interest in PVE/PVP can go and just enjoy PB content.
I think it might be far more popular than anyone realizes, and I also think that opportunities for real innovations in PB’s would become more possible.
Thoughts?

It’s an interesting premise, but I’m wondering how this server would look. How much of a character would we even have?

Would we have zones and expansions? If we go to BFA, for instance, would we see nothing there but Pet Battle dailies?

We don’t even have a dedicated Dev to address pet battles now. So, how much resources would we need? Would they have to create new content just for us? I can’t imagine that the pet dailies and dungeons would keep any of us occupied for long.

And what kind of reception would we get if our characters choose to remain in our current servers? Would people start complaining, “Can we move all the pet battle dailies to the Pet Battlers server? I don’t think they should be here at all. I’d rather just see more dailies that don’t involve pet battles!”

Lots of questions, certainly. I think that in those questions lies an opportunity for Blizzard to monetize a part of the game that has been pretty much ignored but for just adding new pets periodically.

Understand I like the idea. And I do think this has potential. We already know that there are players here who, if not for Pet Battles, wouldn’t be here at all. Just now sure how it would work.

Does this mean that Pet Battling would be taken off all other servers?

I’ve put a little thought into this since I first read through this before responding. I would like to see more done with Pet Battles, but I do not think a server of its own is the way to go.

These are concerns for me as it would affect my playstyle, I do a little bit of everything from current content to collecting old stuff–not having pet battling on my current server would force me to decide if I wanted to continue doing pet battles.

The idea I have forming in my head, which I know probably will never happen, is a zone or continent of multiple zones which utilizes phasing to change the areas as you complete various objectives working through the content. With instancing you could set up more things like the Celestial Tournament and pet battle dungeons or even raids with multiple pet battlers working together to reach the end.

World of Warcraft having been based heavily on PVE from the day it launched 19 years ago, I guess I just don’t understand how a Pet Battle only server would work. It would be helpful if OP could explain in a little more detail their ideas about it and how it would differ from the existing game.

Sorry, I am currently a bit sick with flu, so i haven’t been participating.
I really did not know it would be such an undertaking, but what I imagined was a server that has no NPC.s,
just trainers and flight masters, AH’s, vendors, etc.
I think even mounts could be suspended. Ash Ketchum doesn’t have a mount:)
And I feel like pets could stay in the open game for collectors, just sans the battle feature.
As to dungeons and raids, I think those pets should remain, but that the PB server should have some challenges that allow players to obtain the same pets.
IDK, maybe I am expecting far too much though…

That’s too bad. I hope you feel better soon.

I’m not sure I follow this. How would pets stay in the open game, but without the pet battle feature? I think most of our pets are acquired through the battle feature. That’s how we do it. We find a pet in the wild, challenge it and capture it.

I like the whole brainstorming of things to do with Pet Battles, and I wish we would brainstorm more. Granted, we don’t have a Dev dedicated to Pet Battles, but still, just throwing out ideas, even bad ideas, might inspire something interesting. I don’t know how often any of the Devs read our comments, but who knows? Perhaps a Dev will happen by this and get a nice idea.

Things I’d like to see:

*1 Another Pet Dungeon: I realize the Pet Battle Dungeon sequence is finished, but I’d still like to see more of them. I’ve suggested this in the past, but I think Scholomance would make a really cool Pet Battle dungeon. They might even incorporate those recordings of Lillian Voss and the Necromancer.

We could buy a mini-phylactery with the currency we win for beating the dungeon, and get a Lil Lich pet.

That floating skull thing with the swirling bones would make a cool pet. It could even be a non-combatant, like Wondrous Wisdomball, but frankly, I never cared for non-combatant pets and hope I never see another one. If they’re going to make non-combatant pets, then they should be useful in other ways, like Uuna was. Maybe they could provide a small buff or something.

*2 A Pet Battle Questline: I’d also like to see pet battles incorporated in questlines, not just dailies. Imagine a quest line that gives the occasional pet as a reward. Now imagine the final boss in the quest line, a Mafioso-type crimelord, who challenges you to a Pet Battle. Then, since pet bosses now scale down to your level, even those who just collected the pets earlier in the questline without even bothering to level them could engage the pet boss with their new pets that they acquired earlier in the quest.

Thus, it would give players who have never been interested in pet battles the chance to try one.

And, of course, the crimelord, being the sore loser that he is, would call out his goons to attack you, so you kill them all, and you complete the quest line.

*3 Realistic Incorporation (as realistic as WoW could ever get, that is): I’d also like to see Pet Battles used more realistically. Wailing Critters, for instance, was somewhat strange to me because I kept asking myself, “Why should I engage any of these creatures in pet battles, when realistically, I could just run through the whole dungeon, spamming Holy Nova with my Priest and be done in less than a minute?”

There doesn’t seem to be a way to reconcile our need to use battle pets for anything. How do characters in this game justify needing them when our toons could dish out far more punishment?

The Gnomeregan Dungeon sort of hinted at one way. Some of the pets were guarding a machine that was used to open the door. Suppose if, instead, the pets guarding the machine were inside the machine. Our toons would be too large to enter the machine to kill the pets, and using our own abilities to kill the pets inside would destroy the machine as well.

Hence, we can only send in our battle pets to get rid of the pets that are interfering with our use of the mechanism to unlock the door.

The Battle Pets in the Deadmines supposedly interacted with our environment, in that they took control of the cannons and were firing them at us. Also, that thug on the gangplank to the ship could stop us from entering, unless we fought him with our pets.

What if these fiendish little pets were also able to rig some trap to hold our toons in an inescapable prison, and some how rendered us unable to attack them, so that the only way we could fight them is to use our pets on them?

Or you could have a dungeon boss who warns us that if we dare use our own abilities at any point in the dungeon, something awful will happen. An NPC we’re trying to save will be executed, for instance.

Those are just some of my thoughts. I just wish the rest of us would brainstorm more.

I see what you mean. I was simply referring to the PVP feature.
I think Wild pet capture in retail would be fine.
But; now that I say that, it might make the PB realm less attractive if there is nothing exclusive to it. IDK.
I agree that Battle Pets have received far less attention and funding than other aspects of the game.
The content is repetitive and limited for those of us who are not interested in WoW PVE.
