A non-elf thread, but still controversial

I like Jaina.

My problem with Anduin is that they keep letting Christie Golden write him and she’s f***ing awful.

You know if any of those three characters grew a brain, they’d outfit Jaina’s boat with rocket boosters and fly to a new planet.

I love Baine. I want to hug him and never let go. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

In fact, I love all Tauren. I wanna hug each and every one of them.

Now I really want a Tauren plushie inreal.

I still like Nathanos if we’re talking hot takes.

The issue was Blizz forgot other characters exist. A snarky character like him is good in small doses. Too much snark and it gets too “Okay dude you’re just being mean cut it out”

Preach it, Brother!

His snark in short doses is refreshing… the constant stark and arrogance just makes me wanna go “hey, don’t know if you remember this… i slapped a death god titan around… you REALLY wanna keep talking like this?”

Agreed to a degree!

That’s i think where alot of his hate comes from… they give small doses of “Hey look, Baine is in fact pretty decent leader, and really cares for the Taurens well being” … then spend patches worth making him go pants on head, or -just- trying to side with the alliance on peace.

Truth be told, next to Lor’thamar i think he’s the best racial leader from those small doses (if they ever give him more time to show it at least  )

I get how alot of people see that. But to me their alot like Capt. America. Steve wasn’t the showy avenger, he wasn’t the most powerful, the smartest… he was a idealist, and so are the three of them. And in a world that is doing -everything- it can to tear apart those ideals, and everyone around you is saying those ideals foolish, i think it takes a heck of alot more fortitude to hold onto them then grab a axe and go ‘WRAGGH!’

Kadhgar, Anduin, & Maeiv are my favorites for the Alliance.

Kadhgar always tries hard, but does so with a country like attitude, like the character Matlock. Anduin is more of a tactician, unlike his father, and Maeiv has the burning vengeance not unlike Sylvanas.

Yeahhhhh, i figured that one more then anything will get me burned at the steak, and since i see Chonkii getting the lumber ready, lets go for it.

Anduin is annoying as heck, lets get that out of the way first. His was kinda a mouthy little brat in MoP, he tends to poke his nose into -everyone’s- business, and aggravatingly, somehow managed to get proven right all the time. Its annoying as all heck… and i think thats slowly going away.

Like Janina, Anduin is all about peace, unlike her, he hasn’t given up nearly as much. And where Baine wants whats best for the Tauren, and then the horde (so long as it agrees with his morals), Anduin is a whole other beast. He wants it for the whole world, and then some. The kid dreams big, and for as annoying as he is… he dose walk the walk. From standing up to Garrosh during the divine bell, to standing to Xuen to get the celestials aid, to meeting with Garrosh during warcrimes and getting himself in the middle of the dwarven civil war, its hard to deny, the kid -is- willing to put his money where his mouth is.

But it’s the Legion and BFA Anduin i like (mainly BFA), he was starting to change his fathers views, to get him to agree to peace, and then Varien died… and -no one- understands how heavy that crown is, and how unprepared Anduin was to step into those shoes more then Anduin himself. We saw it in BFA, him trying to be like Varien, trying to do what he thinks his father would have… and mucking it up for the most part. The first time the gold prince has really failed, and i think it’s going to be for the better.

From the little we got to see with the conclusion of the war, it feels like he is slowly coming to realize what his father knew. Peace -needs- force sometimes. But unlike Varien, he has a chance to reach and touch people the old wolf didn’t.

His story is still going, and i’m honestly hopeful we start to see a more mature and balanced Anduin emerge. One who still holds his ideals with a iron resolve, who wants whats best for -all- people, but is willing to come down like a ton of dwarven cannonfire on anything that threatens it.

(I also think he’s not one of the better racial leaders ironically… his focus on the world and not the humans, means he can do things sometimes for the better of azeroth, but at the expense of stormwind.)

Dadgar will always have a place in my heart

Tychè, for the record I have never hated lady Jaina, Baine or Anduin. I have spoken some harsh words about the boy king due to the massive and unfillable void left by Varian’s death, but Anduin is not a bad person. Plus, he’s the king of the human empire,… so… :man_shrugging: Not my monkey, not my circus.

So if you do catch any flack for what you’re saying, I’ll stand up for ya. Oh and, my foxy main thanks you for all the danger hugs, whatever he meant by that  Welcome to the red portrait faction! :beers:

My issue with these three characters is there is a large and vocal segment of the playerbase that is demanding that every character in the story conform to the moral and ethical standards of these three characters. And so far Blizzard has gone out of their way to accommodate these demands and with every expansion that comes and goes we lose more and more interesting, diverse characters. The Horde has lost Gallywix, Sylvanas, Nathanos, all of the upper echelon of the Forsaken, the racial fantasy of the Forsaken, the racial fantasy of the Goblins, the racial fantasy of Orcs and Trolls has been completely toned down and neutered, the racial fantasy of Blood Elves is so far gone they are basically now pointy-eared humans with no distinguishing characteristics. Every expansion and every story beat leads the world to becoming more homogenized and Anduinized.

Anyway, that’s why I lash out against these three in particular. I do think Jaina needs to die now though, much like Sylvanas is accused of her story arc is over and her continued existence only repeats the same story beats over and over in an endless cycle.

There are very specific type of bleeding hearts who actually like so called “leaders” in the veins of Jaina, Baine and Anduin. These type of softie leaders are only passably useful when nothing adversarial is facing the people.

Jaina. take a step back. Faaaaaaaar back. and look at jaina as a character. Her entire arc, is that she got out of the way while: others did the job, or others died for her. frequently both. and then she goes brooding bout what else she could have done.

I think the only time, that she didn’t just bail, is literal only Hyjal. Her primary accomplishment in the entire series is simply Not-Dying. (to be fair, is an accomplishment not many achieves).

Baine is just disgusting. A major barren supply center gets overrun and all the civilian died. “Meh… sucks… too bad… they deserved to die at that point…” Over all written into a weak character, could be a complicated character, but written into a generic naive goodie two shoes. Dwarf bombs tauren tribes. encroach upon tauren lands, while tauren leadership frolic in stormwind. OK. Don’t forget. Tauren is a people who seem to unable to even beat the centaurs.

Anduin is even more generic goodie two shoe than Baine. so theres that. Not deserving of his namesake.

Non-elf reporting in!

In all honesty I love all 3 of those characters for basically the same as u mentioned. Anduin and jaina might be 2 of the best written characters in wow. Their story arcs are honestly amazing.

Led her father into a trap, Hyjal, Got in between Varien and Thrall when they were about to throw down (and that is -not- a pair i would want to get between), Led theramore fairly well for her age and inexperience, Aided in attacking Icecrown… can go on… from almost destroying org on her own, to the purge, to now finally accepting her past mistakes, leading a assault on Daz’alaor, freezing the sea, resummoning the lost fleet…

Don’t get me wrong, she has flaws… plenty of them, but inactivity has never been one of them.
