There should be more rewards in mythic plus. Specifically for the top 10%-0.5% of the bracket. To give some context, in season 2, I was 3 points short of the hero title (0.1%). There was no tangible difference between me and someone who achieved 2500 KSH other than an arbitrary rating. It felt bad but nonetheless I came back motivated and achieved the Dreaming Hero title in season 3.
With that being said, there should be a reward structure similar to arena. My suggestion is to provide the following rewards:
-Top 10%: Unique Armor Transmog for the class you achieved this rating on
-Top 1%: Unique Weapon and weapon enchant Transmog for the class you achieved this rating on
-Top 0.5%: Unique dynamic flying mount
-Top 0.1%: Hero title (no changes)
Blizzard was able to convert percentiles to definitive rating for combatant to gladiator so I imagine Blizzard has the analytics and tools to convert for mythic plus as well.
The top of the bracket by its nature is the most motivated to participate in mythic plus. Giving this bracket these rewards will give these player more of an incentive to play and further legitimize the competitive aspect of mythic plus.
So top m+ runners can then gate it from other players even more and sell the rewards? Why not 2700 = tmog, 2850 = weapon tmog, 3000 = flying mount, title for top 0.1%
I might have been bothered to push from 2958 into 3k for a mount or something but just the io chasing game is kinda boring.
I agree, but I feel that it could just be score cutoffs rather than % based rewards (then you have to keep thinking about it all season and wonder if you are going to be outscored, etc)
On the one hand, yeah, since it’s cosmetic stuff it won’t impact actual gear progression too much. On the other, it’s kind of a slippery slope towards ‘participation trophies’ among who should in theory be the top M+ players, which is kind of a weird pairing.
As I mentioned before, Blizzard was able to convert percentile rewards to tangible rating in arena, so I imagine they can do the same thing in mythic plus. Give players more rewards to work towards.
no, i’m good. i think we’re having a great productive discussion. I haven’t thought about displaying ranks in addition to titles before. We should have that.
Hard no, Skill based rewards are actually super demotivating for a lot of people. You start putting more and more rewards behind unobtainable, to the average player, goals and you’ll see players quitting the game because it’s not being made for them anymore. They can’t compete so why bother? Catering to the hardcore crowd hurts the game, we’ve seen this over many many expansions. Last season M+ was supposedly the easiest and coincidentally it was also the most popular in a long time, wonder why? Having a few rewards for the top skilled players is alright, like a title, but if you have cool mogs and mounts that can’t be aquired by other means and you’ll see riots(look at plunderstorm). Plus the ones that can possibly achieve them will be forced into grinding them out, which is never good for the community because it just breeds negativity and toxicity.
Finally, you should be motivated to push your M+ score because it’s fun/entertaining for you. If it isn’t fun to do that then it’s a gamemode issue, not a reward issue. If your need to feel special and/or better than others requires constant special rewards then it’s a you problem.
