A New "Tram"

Everyone knows (or should know) about the tram in between Stormwind and Ironforge. Two trams quickly transports you between the two cities. You took the long walk either out of sheer boredom and you wanted to waste time or you just got unlucky somehow. We went back for Brawler’s club. Then it became forgotten. Love to go there every now and then for nostalgia.

So…my question is…are we ever going to get something innovative in game like that again? Not like a movie cinematic where you ride a rocket to Undermine or another location but you actually ride and interact with it. Remember riding on ships to locations? Everything is automattic…

The Tram was unique, for sure. You could look out the windows and see stuff as you went, up and down, up and down, up and down. And then you threw up on the floor.

Nah. Blizz basically gave up on immersive travel in favor of instant portals everywhere. Kinda sad.

At least Dragon riding was an attempt at making it fun and more fast/involved than just pushing auto run in a direction and going AFK

I guess I never realized that we basically never had anything like the deep run tram ever again

This seems to have been requested by players who wanted instant portals and instant travel to all kinds of places. People didn’t want to travel to dungeons, raids, etc. They wanted things instant or as close to it as possible.

TBF, the 43rd time someone has walked / ground rode to the same dungeon in the middle of nowhere 3 zones over… flight and quick travel might start to look really nice…

Buns of steel

I know they say it’s about the journey, not the destination, but when you consider that some of WoW’s best environmental design is largely ironically enough in instanced content where very little of the playerbase will see it or a major city, this unfortunately is no longer the case, the destination becomes more appealing.

I mean they got really good at making the actual zones okay for RP and tourism and stuff, but still gotta go through entire campaign chapters per each character just to get there, WoW has always been best when skipped straight to the end unfortunately.

I think the Coreway in Dornogal is a newer more interesting travel mechanic. Yet they kinda ruined it by adding elevators into the Ringing Deeps.

We gave it elevator music by remixing all the grunting, groaning…and sighing from Dornogal, you’re welcome…

I’m not against instant or quick travel. I was replying to why (or one of the reasons why) MicroBlizz gave in to faster travel.

Do I want to ride a ground mount to a raid or to go to Shatt in the Outlands? No, no I do not.

The Tram was awesome for it’s time, but unfortunately between dragon flight and portals it’s slow for todays game, and players these days don’t like slow. Interestingly enough, last week I took the Tram just for nostalgia like you mentioned and by sheer coincidence there was one other player there doing the same thing. We were the only 2 there. We had to wait a few minutes for the Tram to arrive, jumped on, then had to wait for it to haul us all the way to IF. The other guy humorously quipped “This feels so slow now” and we both had a chuckle. He wasn’t wrong though. In the amount of time it took for the Tram to arrive in SW then bring us to IF we could have already been to IF via dragon riding. It was crazy fast when we were capped at 100% speed ground mounts but with 720% flying mounts now it feels like walking. I don’t think we’ll see something quite as awesome again in game unfortunately.

We need a 5th (6th with storymode?) version of all the instanced portal dungeons and maybe legacy raids where it’s just the cleared out instance or with neutral mobs and more than a 5-25 man capacity, there’s so much potential for events in the endgame content.

I would love for them to add stations to the Ironforge tram. A chunnel, even, between continents. It could have a Harry Potter vibe.

Now I want a tram minigame.

It would have been cool if the two tunnelers out of the Undermine took a physical route. That would have been awesome. (I know the one to Zandalar is impossible without a loading screen).

We should have a subway built to the Diablo universe, we can call it the Tristram.

We’re getting Brawler’s Guild back in .7 so it may be soon revisited again?

I like the in-game ships because ships are cool, they have presence and majesty and you can talk to all the flavor NPCs.

I don’t like the deeprun tram because it’s like taking the commuter train to work every morning, dull as dishwater.

If they were going to give us a train worthy of the name, I would agree. Until then… eh, I could do without.

immersive travel still exists.

people like you always complain about this but can rp walk wherever you want, yet you still dont in favor of mounts/flying mounts.
