I would like to propose a new mythic plus grouping and depletion system. Many people are tired of the toxicity that M+ brings but still enjoy pushing a key. I think the general problem with M+ is depleted keys and the feeling of not being able to complete one. Additionally simply forming or getting into a group for one can be hard as well. I think i have a few suggestions that might make things better.
Add M+ to the LFG feature
Create a drop down for the next (+2 or+3) key level that unlocks when you time the key (previous levels still available)
The next key level will only be available if you have a minimum ilvl and io
Allow players to leave key after certain amount of deaths
Allow players to leave if key is depleted
Give deserter debuff for players that leave before two aforementioned points
Create incentives for tanks and healers to do certain keys when no one wants to queue
Teleport players out of a dungeon if a player disconnects and stop the M+ timer. Initiate a vote to continue the key.
Let me know what you think and comment on any of your own suggestions!
Failure should be a possible outcome, though. However, I do think key depletion should be replaced with not allowing overtime rewards. Timer failed = mobs despawn. Imho. Doing resil keys is pretty fun. You can try all kinds of stuff without feeling like you’re wasting time.
I think this is the downside of resil keys, and an inevitable effect of an endlessly scaling difficulty. More and more people are doing m+ and getting pretty good at it. There’s no reason for someone who can run 12’s to run lower keys — they don’t deplete, don’t have stupid affix, and are just demanding enough to feel accomplishment from doing them.
They can’t make lower keys hard (season 1) because the player base riots, so what to do? If every key was resil, lower keys would be even deader. People cluster at breakpoints for a reason.
I’ll be honest, I think with so many key levels, we kind of need depletion to keep people doing the in-between keys. The alternatives are extremely heavy handed.
But on the off chance someone is still reading my caffeine fueled idealogue, what we could do to condense the bell curve is have vault credit cumulate like a bar instead of at breakpoints (so you get X amount of points per dungeon, and then your vault rewards are based on the number of points you have at the end of the week) and put a cap on top end keys (say at +15 or so arbitrarily) then increase key-to-key scaling. Here’s what that would do.
Key levels would become more distinct. This is imperative for the psychological feedback for this to feel good.
People would be able to earn better rewards with more time spent. So say the scaling on the points worked out that you needed 8x +10’s for a full myth row in the vault, just like today, that could also be done with 12x +9’s or 24x +8’s or 4x +12’s. Aggressive scaling would keep you from doing something silly like trying to fill a myth vault from spamming 2’s (on this curve, that would rise > 300 keys). But it would also mean that sticking to keys your more comfortable with wouldn’t be a waste, and also gives everyone an incentive to push up for efficiency, releasing the pressure on the bell curve peak in both directions.
By having aggressive scaling and a cap on the prestige end of the system, we can release some of the isolation on that end of the spectrum, increase the number of applicants available at every level. And then title range would basically be how fast you could do 15’s in. Imho, this is superior to infinite scaling because it keeps the pool of people less spread out without watering down the difficulty of getting to title.
I think a queue for m+ is a bad idea, and I see no way to make it work.
Your queue idea ignores group comp, it ignores brezes, lust, etc. And it doesnt really explain why healers/tanks would even use it. They have huge incentives now to stay in the current system, as it will be a statistically better group.
Its really just an issue of DPS massively out-numbering the 3-1-1 group ratio. Even for lower keys, people will grab overqualified and meta spec DPS because why not, there’s so many of them.
While initially I disagreed with the idea, I would compromise by allowing LFG under a certain key level. I’m talking 6 or 7s. I don’t see how that would be detrimental to the community in anyway outside of adding yet another way to avoid talking to other players in an MMORPG.
… but lets be honest, no one ever uses the existing feature for socialization.
While I like the general idea of a queue for lower keys, I think this is the reason it wouldn’t work well. Tanks and Healers find groups very easily, and can be choosey. Why would they enter the queue and take an even higher risk of a bad group when they can just form their own group quickly? In a queue system the DPS would wait ages because Tanks wouldnt be using it.
This is only at low key levels. I never really have issues finding tanks or healers above +12. The <12 keys are a wasteland. I spent an hour trying to form a group on my dps alt last night. My healers and tanks all have full vaults already.
Does this feature care about group comp or are you throwing three shadow priests together with a very unlucky tank who will have to hit every interrupt? Is it choosing 1 brez and 1 lust class or just throwing anyone into a group?
That was a typo. Do you think M+ grouping* can be improved? Right now people choose over qualified people for their keys and neglect dps with lower ilvl or io. Also, some of my other suggestions are an attempt to make M+ less toxic. Do you think they will make it less toxic? Do you think there is a certain level of toxicity in M+? Or is it fine?
