I’ve been having a terrible time trying to find a place to call home guild wise and I’ve been floating the idea of just making a guild for fun ideas. I know there are tons of guilds on this server and I’ve been reaching out to different guilds but I’ve not thrown my hat in the ring for a long time at being a GM.
Here is the general concept:
-A organization, company, or alliance of adventures who look to make the world a better place for all. This group is found by veterans of some of the times when the alliance and horde worked together to stop threats and realize some things are bigger than political squabbles. That being said they are alliance leaning due to the founding members and a history with the alliance military. So not factionalist but not true neutral either.
-Characters to be recruited would aim for mid level to lower level adventures ICly who want to save the world but still mainly end up cleaning up after the drunks in Stormwind or the Gnoll infested lands in Elwynn and Westfall. All will be welcome as long as they can put the needs of the entire world before biased ideas they may have.
-The organization would have a structure similar to a military structure for ranking due to the leaders background but it will be not as strict unless on active duty. I would be looking at organizations like the Red Cross for ideas on how to build it structurally since the organization will be more about volunteers and not hired mercs.
-The event/story structure would be bi-weekly main guild scenarios (as manageable with real life) with side stories and social rp organized to try and give the organization a sense of being lived in.
-Size I would hope for in the guild is about 10-15 active members with room for growth if I got help and could build more of a OOC base of people who could help with story and side content. I would also aim to make it a casual and social atmosphere with content and other game focused activities as members wanted since I know I enjoy almost everything in the game.
As a final note - I am keeping a lot of direct story ideas, name of the guild, and other stuff more under wraps for now as if I wanted to go forward with it I wouldn’t want someone snagging the name or something. This was just looking for input on what people thought, if they thought it would be feasible, and general atmosphere in Moon Guard towards new guilds since I have not tried this since probably cataclysm.

Info: You’re posting on a horde character, but talking about a guild being Alliance-oriented, so is this an Alliance guild you’re suggesting, or a Horde guild?
Alliance guild. I don’t know why the forum never shows my characters correctly. I moved that character to the alliance already.

I think it sounds like a great idea, I’d be down for it! I’ve also had some challenges getting deep into it with guilds, for various reasons. Not with this character because she wouldn’t be a good fit for the concept, but I have another character I consistently play, who I think would be a great fit. Do you have discord or another way to contact you outside of the forums?
Yes, I do use discord quite often. My handle is Bauldric on Discord. I would be happy to talk over discord about the guild or other ideas too.

Some general thoughts here…
Focus on what sets your guild apart from every other adventuring guild. There are a good number of these, so the more you make the concept stand out, the better!
I’d probably avoid a military structure. Unless it’s a military group, don’t use military ranks. It’ll end up sending mixed signals. Besides, there’s a big lack of civilian groups! I love the idea of it being a low power concept - definitely a cool idea.
I’d also suggest having a consistent weekly social tavern-like gathering. Bonus points if it’s open to the general community; it’s free advertising and also helps to build connections inside and outside the guild.
You’ll also have to determine if you’re going to use a dice system, which one (if any) and how hard you’re going to push it. Dice systems constitute a barrier to entry for recruitment, so be cautious with this.

When I said military structure I should state I was thinking more like just a stricter hierarchy rather than I notice a lot of civilian guilds have. A lot of the more civil based guilds I see tend to have like no structure ICly or very little and everyone kind of does their own thing. I was thinking specifically having like a group of organizers, a group of like helping hands, maybe a group of healers, and such.
Since I am more focusing on the red cross thing more I am thinking there would be like a medical division, aid division, and so on.

This makes sense, lets each little group manage their own stuff. Spreads out the responsibility piece a little bit as well potentially.

Okay, my forum account finally caught up to my characters in-game. This is Val.
So I will do a full work up, I think, on this and post the published product once I get the guild charter made. If anyone wants to help make it my character I’m going to make it on is Brambleton and I can be reached in-game in the evenings PST most nights (obviously with the holidays this weekend it may be a bit hit and miss).
Besides RP I’m looking to make this for just general social stuff and making friends so the guild will hopefully be a home for players to make new friends and experience fun stories. Thank you all for your input and I’ll be treating the guild foundation and growing as part of the story. So ICly the first story will be the establishment and finding it’s feet.

A new guild has been formed! I couldn’t sleep very well last night so I found some generous souls around Stormwind to help sign the charter. Please keep an eye out for a post in the coming days introducing the new guild!
