A msg to Activision

Fire whatever team you have working on Classic - they all suck; send an offer to the creators of WoW Ascension.

The players will be happier for it and you’ll make more money.

You’ve been recycling the same content that I bet no one currently working for you had a hand (someone elses work).

I’d imagine all the filth comes from peopel a few levels higher than anyone reading this however.

The people working on that private server were no saints regardless of the big MS money and lawyers that shut them down.

The people who modded a game (against licensing) for profit aren’t saints? Hmm…

I wonder why they don’t just create their own game.

:woman_shrugging:

no, they are not gonna reward intellectual property thieves with a job :expressionless_face: and turtle/ascension wasn’t even good.

They lack confidence.

Or actual ability. It’s a LOT easier to steal someone else’s successful business, and tweak it a bit, then offer it for free, and charge some premium services items on top of it than to create something on its own.

Basically what Blizz and MS have always done, so not much difference

It’s incredibly different. If a company purchases IP and iterates versus steals for a profit.

Like, should it be OK for me to create a new soda drink called Coca Cola: Cinnamon that tastes more or less the same and immediately appeals to the brand’s following. I’m stealing the effort made by the company to create brand recognition, even if I’m making a good flavor or Coca Cola that the company itself has not yet made.

Should I be able to take a Nike branded T-shirt, change its color and sell it as a Nike brand T-shirt under my name?

I made a drink once as a kid. I put milk, orange juice, soda, coffee whatever I could find in the fridge and mixed it altogether.

It was awful.

Don’t do that.

You’re not familiar with the numerous IP robbed to build MS products or Blizzard products.

Ill Que the Elevator Music while you do a bit of research on this.

I’m familiar with Embrace Extend Extinguish. The idea of “I know more than you, so haha go Google.” is ugly.

It’s also inaccurate in this case, so perhaps rethink your approach, in my opinion. I won’t hold this against you, but do better.

Have you played other games outside of the blizzard sphere of influence? Have you read or seen any product by games workshop that the Warcraft series is effectively pirated from? Have you seen the game StarCraft is pirated from? Have you seen the various FPS game mechanics and themes that overwatched is pirated from? Are you familiar with the history of dishonorable activities used by MS for near the entirety of their existence? It is not to say they’ve done anything new in the space of corporate level skullduggery, but they’re certainly not blameless or original in any way.

Was waiting for that cynical edgy wow forum / social media comment. Thank you you didn’t disappoint.

Care to explain how blizzard .. sorry care to explain how YOU think blizzard or Microsoft is unique in your implication of them stealing ideas from others?

They hardly the only ones. This isn’t white knighting for them it’s calling out the BS.

Framing Warcraft as being pirated from another game in the context of actual IP Pirating is not going to win me over to your argument. There’s a pretty large difference between taking lore inspiration and/or adopting systems, and then using the same client with someone else’s fan-created open-sourced server-side code to create mods and then sell services for profit.

It’s as though you’re just waving your hands and asking a bunch of, “Do you know …?” to obfuscate the claim and the conversation.

Sure, we can probably all agree that the team that owns WoW IP could be doing a better job of delivering content that I personally would like to see. However, taking their IP and creating that while serving it in a for profit environment is not some noble cause, nor is it equivalent to creating a new game that draws inspiration (even a lot of inspiration) from WoW or any other game(s).

Thinking you are missing the point. I am not excusing one set of pirates and saying that it is acceptable. I only point out that MS and Blizzard are also pirates, and neither are ok.

I’m fairly aware of some things about Microsoft’s history, for example about Java and licensing violations which ultimately lead to lawsuits and the development of .NET.

I’m less familiar with Blizzard’s history of what you may be referring to as piracy, and I suspect that you are using the term incredibly loosely. I’ve heard (or read) something about Warhammer fans claiming Blizzard copied their IP, but I tend to assume that almost any kid growing up reading Lord of the Rings, and playing Dungeons and Dragons would be influenced by the lore in those worlds.

:woman_shrugging:

Tolkien appropriated.

yo ho ho

They have both acted dishonorably, again this is not in any way defending piracy, only pointing out that MS and Blizzard aren’t saints. If a corporation has done evil they will always be evil at their core.

Warcraft RTS, Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 are all built off the Warhammer universe. They were intended to be a Warhammer RTS but Games Workshop declined their offer and so blizzard simply rebranded it. Starcraft Was also suppose to be Warhammer 40k but again Games workshop Declined and so blizzard re-branded it. The art style is Warhammer, the units are warhammer, etc. The same with overwatch, if you ever played any other FPS games at all ever, this would be very evident, this is not their idea, they merely put a new coat of paint on it.

As for the pirate servers, the backend of their servers arent blizzard code at all, the only component they actually use that is technically blizzard IP are the game clients on the player side, the server side does not contain any graphics or blizzard code.

The reason these pirate servers do not just develop their own client at this point is far beyond my understanding since it is the logical and legal path. They would also need to develop their own artwork too, and with Ai they could use Ai slop to get it done then backfill that with real art over time, but logic and reason have no place apparently in the gaming development space now days.

The pirate servers if they were wise would build their own graphics and pc side client and take it to the bank but they dont because they’re banking on wow addicts.
