A more spirit/shadow oriented shaman option from bwonsambi’s other side

Good afternoon, I realize I will Probably get flamed for this. But I’d like to suggest an ability to make shamans a bit more spirit/shadow oriented, think like a troll shaman of Bwonsamdi. No new builds or specs, just pure visual like the warlock fel fire. My idea would be something like below:

Shaman Shadow Flame Questline
To start the questline you will have to use the Rune Etched Skull of Bwonsamdi. This skull drops from rare mobs in Nazmir, but you can also purchase it on the Auction House. The skull can only be looted by Shamans and upon accepting or completing the quest, that character won’t be able to obtain the skull again.

Upon completing the quest chain, you will learn The Blessing of Bwonsamdi. This allows you to turn the visual effects of your lava and flame spells to the purplish black of shadow flame. You can turn the shadow flame effect on and off by visiting Bwonsamdi at his temple in Nazmir.

Aren’t Bwonsamdi’s followers… priests?

So, wouldn’t it be a priest thing?

That is correct.

I’m sure a large number are, but I’m sure they aren’t exclusive to priests. And shamans are also supposed to be heavily involved in spirits (which is Bwonsamdis realm) also not just elements. Hence the spirit wolves, the spirit wolf glyphs and the ancestral spirit glyphs and such. But then again this is just my take on it.

Shaman should have substantially more in its kit related to it’s spiritual side, but through their actions, the development team has shown that they don’t care about Shaman. I’m starting to believe they regret the class.

Ever since DKs came out, Shaman lost their identity. They’ve tried to pair us with mages, but it’s weak and lacks real ying/yang.

It doesn’t have to be class specific.

Race would be more appropriate, for Zandalari and Darkspear Trolls.

I am waiting for the Darkspear hertitage set myself

Agreed it’s really a troll thing, I have a Zandalari shaman and a dark spear shadow priest. But like any other diety like being, I’m sure they wouldnt turn anyone away from following them saying oh I’m sorry you are an orc warrior you aren’t allowed to worship me. And I have to admit it is SO much easier to make a shaman look like a Bwonsambi follower than a priest in my opinion. This is what got me thinking, why don’t they have an option for shamans to be more spiritual? either ethereal looking spells or shadowy like the realm of death.

Not quite. Bwonsamdi’s realm is the dead in the traditional sense of an underworld. All troll kind deals “with de spirits”. Shaman are much more likely to follow Pa’ku and have nothing to do with shadow flame. Absolutely nothing. Lol

I think you are focusing to much on the corruption aspect of Shadowflame, i only suggested that since Bwonsamdi is the Loa of death, and i picture his realm being shadowy, and shamans do typically use flame. If that idea bothers people, make it an ethereal blue flame or something that can be associated with spirits. there can be no doubt shamans deal with spirits, im merely suggesting a way to add a little flavor to it, making them lean more visually towards spirits and Voodoo. I mean we do already use totems, which to me have a voodoo’ey feel to them as well as multiple spirit based talents and glyphs, such as Ancestral defense, Ancestral Wolf Affinity, and Ancestral Guidance. We are more than just melee mages and i just think the developers left a lot that could be done to make Shamans a bit more diverse visually as well as in a role playing sense. but again not trying to offend anyone, just stating something i feel would make shamans a bit more enjoyable for more than likely quite a few people.

Yeaaaah, but Shadowlands took its pants off after a big burrito and took a –

MASSIVE

sloppy dump, on shamanism with their spiritual side.

Shaman aren’t spiritual anymore – Death Knights are.
That’s why Death Knights were the spirit guides of the Shadowlands & Shaman had absolutely ZERO relevance, along with even Baine Bloodhoof being told by a godlike being of death that his spirit had no potential & was dropped like a turd off a cliff.

— But hey man, don’t get me wrong; I would love spiritual lore to be restored to shamans too in WoW, but it seems the devs / writers have forgotten about all that. :person_shrugging:

I just noticed after playing my elemental zandalari shaman up into the 50’s ( sorry I almost always do enhancement) that they have a spell with a really good graphic for a more spiritual shaman. Primordial wave. It has a darker greenish black fire like appearance that would work really well color wise for a more spirit/ realm of the dead shaman. Just my opinion on something I just noticed.

That’s essentially what shadow hunter trolls are. A weird blend of shadow priest/hunter/shaman.

Shadow hunter hero in wc3 had a glaive as his ranged attack, chain heal, hex, flametongue totem (searing totem basically), and a channeled AOE invulnerable I think as the ultimate. The troll caster NPCs had healing totem.

Would be a good hero class possibly. Although very troll themed

Not really true. They don’t really do much lorewise nowadays. But a ton of their skills are still spirit/ancestor themed.

To be fair.

Baine has no potential and deserves to be dropped like a turd off a cliff.

I think troll priest/shaman is essentially the same thing in basic warcraft lore. Pre retail wow days.

Not sure why everyone is acting as if there’s no precedent for a shadow shaman. If you played Warcraft 3, you’d know the main troll hero is a Shadow Hunter, which is essentially a shadow shaman.

It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time, and it was often mentioned when discussing hero or sub classes.

This has always been wows big major problem. Same with priestess of moon. In Amirdrassil, u can see priestess of the moon’s are wearing druid tier, with priest cloth and a bow. So thats 3 different classes. Shadow shamans which was the predecessors to wow shamans also used shadow spells which split into priest and shaman. :cloud_with_rain:

Death is not Shadow. Nor Shadowflame, which is absolutely corruption.

They had Chain Heal and Hex, but that’s where the similarity ends. They were revered and feared, closer to the Loa in the spirit realm more than mortals. Akin to Priests, but elevated higher.

Shadow hunters (also written as shadowhunters or shadow-hunters ) are masters of voodoo and shadowmagic and were once the highest authority amongst trolls.[2] Their spirit powers can both heal and curse, walking the line of dark and light in hope of saving the future of trollkind, doing whatever it takes to secure a future for their kin. The loa can channel themselves through the shadow hunters when they use their ceremonial rush’kahmasks.[3] The traditional shadow hunter weapon is a long double-bladed sword[4] or glaive.

Bwonsamdi’s priests be all shadow, mon.

I mean if we can branch him out into other classes I’m all for it, he’s one of if not my very favorite character in the lore.

Nobody likes it when I mention there is an actual loa (yes loa, that’s what they call the spirits in actual RL voodoo) named Baron Samedi, or, “Bawon Samdi” in the local dialect. The thing is when they created this character they did a nice amount of research into his RL persona.

He’s a trickster death entity. He loves rum, and also loves the ladies. I’ve watched videos of voodoo priests being possessed by him and they do the most outlandish things like drink half a bottle of rum and show no intoxication. He’s a good entity even though he has a death aspect, his tribe of spirits called ghede are love-and-death entities, to me they are balanced because love creates life and death is the natural ending of that life.

I am fully aware that trolls in this game are basically a fantasy version of african people. It’s ridiculous and some day they will get around to canceling wow for reasons like this, but until then I’m more than happy with my voodoo priestess trolls.

Cultural tourism or something like that. Least I kinda sorta know what I’m talking about.
