“We want Demonbolt to return to being a moment rather than be your primary rotational button.” - Blizzard Development Team
Ok, so what does Demonbolt currently do when we press it.
- Generates 2 Soul Shards
- Has a chance to summon an imp if talented into Spiteful Reconstitution
- Causes your Felguard to do a bit of damage if talented into Immutable Hatred
- (Edit) Reduces Doom duration.
All of these aspects take a significant hit with the recent Alpha changes, so now Demonbolt is just a worse moment.
However, it can be recovered if devs actually invest into making Demon Bolt feel more powerful without just slapping a 100% damage buff on it.
Base Changes
- Spiteful Reconstitution - Demonbolt has a 100% chance to summon an Imp if talented into Spiteful Reconstitution.
- Immutable Hatred will need significant tuning and honestly could just be changed to something way cooler
- Demonbolt is only castable while Demonic Cores are available.
- (Edit) Doom is popped instantly by consuming a Demonic Core and it’s cooldown is reduced by x seconds.
Ideas for additional talents
- Demonbolt generates 1 additional Soul Shard.
- Demonbolt consumes no Demonic Cores while Demonic Tyrant is active.
- Demonbolts cast during Demonic Tyrant extends it’s duration by 1 second.
- Demonbolts have a chance to infect enemies with Demonic Influence, forcing them to do your bidding for 15 seconds, alongside your felguard. The target dies once Demonic Influence ends.
- Consuming a Demonic Core has a chance to make your next Hand of Gul’dan instant and summon additional imps.
- Consuming a Demonic Core has a chance to reset the cooldown of Call Dreadstalkers.
- Consuming a Demonic Core has a chance to summon a Dreadstalker.
- Consuming a Demonic Core has a chance to summon a random demon from the Nether (Demon list from Nether Portal)
- Umbral Blaze coats all enemies hit by your Hand of Gul’dan in Residual Shadowflame for 20 seconds. This effect stacks. Consuming a Demonic Core causes it to ignite, dealing Shadowflame damage.
Essentially do anything besides adding crit chance, bonus damage, or pet attack speed. Give something interesting and meaningful to Demonbolt to make it feel like that moment that the team is reaching for.

I do love the idea of consuming demonic cores to summon a demon, even if its by chance. Itll feel very satisfying to have some consistency in summoning demons outside of huge cooldowns, even with the poor demonic core economy.
But we must see a huge rework to immutable hatred and a chance to doom. Just make doom be reduced by casting hand of guldan instead of using demonic core. At this current state a lot of these talents rely on demonic core procs so much nerfing the economy doesn’t just nerf a single button but it nerfs half of the entire kit, not just in soul shard spending but also in overall effectiveness

Yea i forgot about new Doom. That will need to be looked at too or the reduction will be quite underwhelming unless you just pool cores every time which further limits their use for mobility.
Frankly I do enjoy this iteration of doom, especially since it’ll be a guaranteed chance to summon the doomguard. But I just don’t think its suitable as a capstone talent at all

It’s better than the old version for sure but i do enjoy the tier set better and would have preferred that. I agree it’s not really suited for the capstone area. I would rather they iterate on nether portal instead of just cutting it for the time being.
I like some of these ideas, and if they’re going to decrease demonic core procs then they should add something. The idea of a portal demon chance when you consume a core is fun.
Hopefully they give us more info or a better fleshed out tree soon. The community is confused to say the least about what they’re aiming for.
I might be the odd one out but I do like the idea of demonology having a heavy hitting spell instead of spamming the same ability over and over again. Back before the demo rework of BFA demo had at least one ability to absolutely slam into something.
I personally found it far more satisfying than the version demo we have now.

Ooh, what if that can become the new iteration of nether portal? Consuming a demonic core has a chance to open a nether portal that spews demons, that would be fun for a capstone

Fun detected. Sorry, but no can do.
Sad, now if this was paladin this would be an entirely different story lol.
Or hell even death knight, those recent changes to unholy look so much fun

Unholy DK will be the summoner next expansion. It already is lol.
And yes it’s def looks like it it will be aweome.
When they said moment, they meant a moment of silence because they knew they were about to kill warlock.
If they bring back that unholy 2 piece tier set from sepulcher of the first ones as a talent that’s going to seal the deal for me.
Im glad to see more vilefiend thing. But make it a choice between Felguard or Vilefiend as permanent pêt tot a temporary one
Oh yeah the vilefiend is pretty cool. Albeit a bit frustrating to talent into the way I prefer but its a start.
Especially since if you run the numbers you theoretically can have a gloomhound for 45s with a 15s downtime. Thats literally insane if your going for a dog heavy build, that’s some LETHAL single target damage.
I liked the ideas, but there’s something that bothers me about demonbolt since BFA, why does it still exist as a button? It’s not usable without demonic core, so why doesn’t demonic core transform shadowbolt into demonbolt altomatically?

Shadowbolt becoming Demonbolt would be the best gameplay wise but Demonbolt and Demonic Core is kinda tradition from the Soulfire and Molten Core days.
Also, much of the Demonology tree is wrapped up in Demonbolt or Demonic Core so it would take a lot of work to replace all that.
So, we are stuck with Demonbolt being a separate button for no reason for the rest of time.
I don’t know why they didn’t keep doomguard (with aoe bolts) guaranteed on doom but limit it to only one up at any given time rather than changing it to a proc then axing it and going for the blandest option , an imp.
Kinda sad really.
