And it just occurred to me that while I mostly dislike them, if we ever get in a situation where we fight a mechanically-inclined enemy (cough the titans cough) they should give hunter a HZD style tier set where it’s parts from destroyed machinery layered as the “trophy”.
In a way Undermine was an opportunity to do this already.
Yeah that, basically since the setting is post apocalyptic and the enemies are mostly the robots that did the apocalypse, a lot of outfits have machinery parts as decoration or armor.
Most of the tier sets in this game are hit or miss (for all the classes). Some are really good, some are completely forgettable. This season’s hunter set falls closer to the “really good” side, imo. Helps that it’s basically an uprezzed version of the Emerald Nightmare/Nighthold set, which was also one of the better ones.
I’m not saying next tier is bad fwiw (although in general hunter is indeed a cursed class for tier looks and I wasn’t a fan for Undermine, although I guess some people might like the Slands Dark Ranger look, I won’t judge too much), more like that it could have been appropriate for undermine and could be appropriate in the future for a story where we deal with antagonistic titan tech. And maybe it could even look cool.
I get it, but none of this tier’s sets are themed around Undermine. They left that for the questing gear and the weapons, which they did a pretty good job with. I can’t see any unifying theme for this tier’s stuff other than maybe “all dressed up to go to the casino”…since every class’s set is emblematic of the class itself. Warriors got the spikes, rogues look like a ghost pirate, druids are in their Drust cosplay, etc.
I mean yeah undermine hunter is clearly dark ranger (but modern dark ranger), it looks like karesh is going to be sentinel and hearken back to nighthold (which itself was a unified elven ranger set, worn by the farstriders in 3rd war flashbacks for example, and the single most popular set to modernize Halduron’s model)
some of the new sets definitely feel like legion callbacks. the warlock tier is modeled on inquisitor demons, but so was at least one cloth mog from legion. and iirc, one of the paladin tiers also kinda has a throwback quality, but i could be mistaken at the hour
Each of the tier sets in War Within is themed after a hero spec. For instance, hunters have a Pack Leader-themed set in Nerub’ar, a Dark Ranger-themed set in Undermine, and a Sentinel-themed set in Manaforge.
That probably makes sense. The priest sets (my main) seem pretty interchangeable, though. I guess this tier is Oracle, but the other two could go either way.
edit - Although looking at the hero talent icons again, the floaty orb things in the 11.2 set are probably supposed to call back to the floaty orb things in the Voidweaver artwork.
Every tier set this expansion is based on the theme of one of the Hero talent trees. I guess Druids get one left out and DH get a preview of their void spec. Anyway. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell which one the set is based on because the concepts are so nebulous (see: paladins) but for example the DK tier from Nerub’ar was Rider because it fuses horse elements (shoulder skulls, horseshoe-as-omega belt buckle) with a pretty shameless ripoff of Marvel Comics Apocalypse. The hunter set for this tier is Dark Ranger based.
I dunno about farstriders since I just see Alleria in the new hunter set. Another Windrunner set. https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/1226849.jpg https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/1171728-alleria-windrunner.jpg
