A lot of buffs and Nerfs. What about BM Monk?

Now that all the favorite children got their toys for Christmas, any chance BM monk could get armor equal to the other tanks and access to Parry based on crit? That’s what BM Monks want for Christmas.

I feel like they have intentionally just held off Brew to just absolutely sky rocket their stats come season 2. Otherwise the level of neglect kinda doesn’t make sense because they had lower representation than Protection Paladin when it was bad.

Even tho I sympathize with BM Monks…

I have to go with the “More Delves” option.

I might switch to Monk in Season 2.

I want something I can heal and tank on, but not Druid or Pally. Brew’s power level doesn’t really bother me because I don’t plan on doing very high keys with it. I think it’ll be easier to farm crests as a tank though. As heals you can’t even stop to sip your beer or beverage otherwise someone literally falls over dead or the group implodes.

Also, frankly, the anti ranged mechanics in some of these dungeons are starting to tilt me a little bit. If you have all melee and you’re the heals, the dudes in Mists just spam charge on you non stop? Wtf? The boss in Siege? He fixates on me every single time? Then he cycles the mechanic before I can get him to a bomb. That is the dumbest fight in existence, I swear, that entire dungeon is just cringe.

It is definitely more engaging than some classes. I would point out the buffs to MW and WW have put them in a very good place. MW is low key one of the best healers right now once you get it geared. The buffs to WW make it top tier dps. Monk tanks remain a meme. But they are so fun if Blizzard just made them on par with the other tanks not better just a little better than they are now I think the BM monk pop would explode. Not because they are better but because they are just so fun to play.

I dunno, I’ve got a friend who’s mained BrM all the way up to 2.7k rating this season. If it’s good enough for that, that’s honestly good enough for all but the 0.1%ers chasing titles where there’s never going to be balance across all specs anyway.

I would only respond to that with the difference between viable and good is a very think line to cross. Good is good in all content and at all levels. There are not any BM Monks attempting M+ 15s. Feel free to check the numbers last I checked its 0. In M+ competitions, last I checked, no one was using BrM monk. 0 people. When you are Viable, it is possible to do everything, but it is also unnecessarily harder. Monk tanks are Viable but not good like the other tanks. Comparison matters in this case.

Like I said though, at the top level, it’s pretty much always going to be one spec that’s ‘best’ or, for the players at that level, ‘viable’. At that point there’s only really a single tank spec (prot paladin at the moment) and all 5 others are ‘non-viable’. Balance like that isn’t really achievable. Best to keep the bar just at whether something’s viable for character progression, and in M+ that pretty much stops at 10s.

Prot Paladins were also ‘viable’, a couple months ago. That didn’t stop Blizzard from buffing them to God Mode status.

The only difference between Prot Paladins and Brewmasters is that there are so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so MANY Prot Paladins whining and crying. And barely any Brewmasters at all.

The squeaky wheel always gets the grease, from Blizzard. It has always been so. Particularly when it comes to paladins.

Same reason DKs are so often neglected. There just aren’t enough of them to really warrant attention from the powers that be. Paladin and Hunter are the most played classes, which in turn translates into them representing the majority of the whining.

We see how this turned out.

To be honest, this doesn’t really address Brewmaster’s issues or weaknesses. We need better scaling into AoE that other tanks have. A return of artifact powers/legendaries/etc like Boiling Brew, Firestone Walkers, the tier 18 4pc, etc would help here. Keg of the Heavens returning (with its damage modifier removed) may help as well, and was a fan favorite that would have unique interactions with both Shado-Pan and Master of Harmony. They could also alter A&S a bit (and/or reduce its point cost) as an option. Additionally, we need some mandatory talents made baseline, a small buff to CB/EoD, and some talent reworks (like making Niuzao good again). Access to better and more universal defensives (like a return of the Legion version of Fundamental Observation) and some Brew-specific utility would help tremendously as well.

Parry is additive to dodge to my knowledge and would do little in the long run as we already have a tremendous amount of dodge. A slight armor bump might help, but if you get too crazy with it then it would domino too hard. We’re already very good with tanking physical damage. There’s phys tank busters that decently chunk prot paladins with defensives up that I can just take in 13-14s with a low stack CB and frame 1 purify into negligible damage. Bumping armor too much would just remove the need for the CB and being able to take tankbusters raw in a higher key with no CD, whether a small or big one, is just unhealthy for the game.
