Go ahead and layer, but in anything other than layer one, nothing spawns. No herbs, no ores, no mobs other than the main cities/rep vendors. The only thing you can do is go to instances or world pvp.
If resources were shared across layers the way that world buffs are now shared across layers, and layering was now solely and purely about queues and queue times, we all know a majority of these pro layer posts would evaporate and disappear overnight.

We wish to be able to log in and play the game. Arugal needs layers to do so. We don’t want a lobby between instances.
Not to mention a rework requires time, we want layers today. There’s no need for a compromise from you, you’re not of our realm. You hold no power over us.
“Go ahead and layer, but in anything other than layer one, nothing spawns. No herbs, no ores, no mobs other than the main cities/rep vendors. The only thing you can do is go to instances or world pvp.”
This has got to be the most idiotic thing I have ever read.
“Log in and play the game, but you can’t actually play the game!”
Brilliant.
100%. Mega servers economies are all ready ridiculously over priced. There is no good reason that herbs/ore aren’t made abundant on them.
Why should a server with only 30% more people get 100% more resources? If you picked a mega server you can deal with the problems that come with it.
at this point, if you’re still on a megasever, its fairly clear its because you are okay with layering.
There is no compromise needed. Layer the mega servers, who have been layered for the majority of their existence, keep the smaller servers as is. Theres a server type for everyone, problem solved for all except for those who enjoy other people being unhappy.
A PVP server should absolutely never be layered.
Nah. Just allow laying period. Let the people who wanted to all be together on mega servers deal with the consequences and if they don’t like it then can leave to a lower pop server.
Why? The servers with 9k+ populations simply do not function properly without layers. Those who play on them are overwhemingly in favor of them. Why should people from smaller servers get to dictate gameplay on the mega servers? This is very much a ‘mind your own business’ issue, frankly.
I like how this thread exposed the true motives behind a lot of the pro layer people here that were trying to say that this was strictly about queue times though… lol well done.
Those servers should never have been allowed to exist. WoW Vanilla design was never meant to handle it. The solution is not to shoe horn retail tech to dilute the Vanilla experience. The solution is aggressive population control and bringing servers back down to reasonable size, and then not allowing them to grow out of control.
And, Grobbulus is at high risk of being effected by layering nonsense in the future now that transfers are unlocked again, so yeah, kinda do have a horse in this race.
“A PVP server should absolutely never be layered.”
You’re just really getting desperate at this point, saying anything that will make Blizzard think some servers shouldn’t be layered.
I agree with you on this point, but that ship has long since sailed. We can only hope the same mistake isnt repeated for TBC, but for now we need to work with the reality of what is possible.
Short of forced server splits and removal of the original mega realms entirely (something blizzard has never done and is unlikely to do now) nothing is going to fix this, ESPECIALLY given that blizzard has for reasons beyond all comprehension, reopened paid transfers to these already overpopulated realms.
Players will not pay to transfer off in any quantities large enough to solve this issue (nor should they need to, as this is a problem blizzard created), they will not free transfer to low pop realms in any significant amount (the type of player who enjoys a mega server culture is not attracted to a low pop realm). For every players who transfers off, 2 transfer to it.
What are our motives? We wish to play the game. Logging into an empty world is not remotely the same.
I’m not a gatherer mind you, my professions are engineering and tailoring. I never relayer while pvping in the world as that would remove myself from my BG queue.
Exactly. Under better circumstances, we would never have had layers. We would never have been afforded a realm to host so many players, we should have been given more realms to launch with.
It’s too late for hindsight, we’ve had a year to bond with our community, guilds and to prepare for this current tier. The second last tier of Classic, mind you.
Yep. The best hope for a fix will come with tbc, when megarealms can be conceivably split into 2-4 options.
i wounder how the mega servers were in 2004-2006?
and how the players on those servers reacted on the forums during those times.
