So I was wandering around Outland, and in particular Blade’s Edge Mountains (not an area I visit very often) and I came upon these gorgeous big Fey Drakes. You know, like the little Sprite Darter Hatchlings. The label they show is “dragonkin” and I thinks, wait, can my higher level hunter tame those (she has the ability to train dragons).
I was then very saddened to find that yes indeed, these gorgeous things could be tamed - if my highest level hunter had level 23 Renown with Valdrakken. Which of course she is nowhere near having as she is just one of my alts.
Can I reiterate how much I absolutely hate Renown at this moment???
Sniff Way to spoil a hunter’s fun in the game, Blizz…

Alright I need to get my hunter out into the World of Warcraft because those things are just precious and probably incredibly violent if the one from HoTs is any indicator of their collective disposition

I just tamed one to see. They shrink down to the same size as a sprite darter.

As I’ve mentioned before, I was not able to play for some weeks due to a knee replacement surgery and can still only play for short periods as sitting with the knee is painful after a while. My Renown levels are very low on all my toons, so I cannot take advantage of any catchups and it will be many weeks before I can.
Anyways, it was just a fun fact I found out, and a mild sadness thta I couldn’t get the pretty thing now. I will one day.

Just so you know…so many things give rep with them that it goes much quicker than the the others. I also realized fairly recently that you needed level 23, but it’s been surprisingly easy.

The book’s restriction of only buyable by hunters does suck. But you get a boost to renown if you’re at certain milestones on another character and it’s not too awful to blow through the campaign and WQs to get enough. You do pretty much need to be 70 by the end though. I found that much more tolerable than unlocking the feathermane tome for the first time.
When you learn it, it’s actually account-wide and you don’t need to buy it again for additional hunters too.
On the bright side, at least it can be tamed at all!

You need Exalted to tame cloud serpents.
What I’m saying is I already had all the rare-skinned cloud serpents tamed a long time ago.

That feeling is fleeting… you’ll adjust and move on. We all do.
Instant gratification denied. You can still get it, just not right now. So sad.
What’s sad is cloud serpents were tamable for years and now they’re suddenly not. It’s kind of screwed up, actually.
Edit: What I meant by “not” is they were behind one wall and now for some reason they’re behind two. Glad I got them when I did since I’m not really playing DF.

You’ll still be able to use them same as always. Only difference is they aren’t in the serpent family anymore.
I’m pretty sure cloud serpents still just need the cloud serpent book to tame? Not 100% sure on that though.

There are a few campaign quests that give entire levels of Valdrakken rep. With the catch-up mechanics, those quests alone can get you like 10 levels. I went from like ~15 to 23 in an afternoon on my hunter. Obviously I had a head start because that’s the character I initially did the Wrathion/Sabellian grind on, but getting renown isn’t difficult once you’ve unlocked the bonuses from your main.

Without account wide rep you’re better off not taking alts into Dragonflight until your main has all max renown for renown bonus.

Each person likes one thing in the game, and when you are inept in designing narrative, what you do ? TIME GATE.
IT is not like they will accomodate diverse design in game that is not diverse in IRL identity politics. The only diversity they know.
While you need to pander to the alphabet IRL cult, you dont need to make a game in which each one can play however they want.
