Modern retail wow has radically changed from the original game not recognizable at all if anyone quit after 2006 before TBC and missed that version of the game they now have classic available to them the final version of Vanilla wow before expansions.
Im caught in the middle and I know im not alone. I wanted wow to regress to be more like how it use to be but I was not wishing for classic wow. I started during TBC and played heavily during those times and wrath. My nostalgia is for those times not Classic pre expansion wow.
I don’t like classic because leveling takes a really long time , I don’t like attunements and classic shares a similarity eerily to retail in terms of pvp gearing. You do pve to get the best suitable gear for pvp.
Wotlk is sort of between worlds which is why I think it was so popular and why many clamor for it to come back or something like it. It was far from perfect I personally like Mop better than wotlk which may not be a popular opinion. I enjoyed Mop far more than legion , wod or bfa also.
Mop is an odd standout that I tie as equal or better than Wrath but definitely superior to cataclysm. Cataclysm made me take a break from wow for nearly an entire year.
During classic’s development and following its announcement a group of people cried for a classic Lite where its classic but has some key differences. I would have like to have seen this but I knew it was never going to happen and I wasn’t leaning that it would be the cure all or that I wanted it that badly.
Some unofficial servers experimented with this where for example you could do classic raids with less than 40 people easily even as few as 5 people and it would scale down.
I think there’s a sizable population right now watching and waiting to see if Shadowlands is worth playing and waiting for a possible burning crusade announcement I know I am one.

There is a classic sub-forum ya know.
I can wager a lot playing retail don’t want any classic in their game.
Me included.

i wasnt suggesting inject classic gameplay into retail
That is a hard “no” dawg.
You want some experimentation of classic lite or whatever, classic raids that scale also is what I gathered of what you want.
If that’s not it then I have no idea what you want.
Anyway all I take away from it is stuff that Blizz won’t do. I’d like for some older instances to get some relevance but that’s something else.
This thread is confusing and doesn’t make a point.

Before Blizzard caved on remaking Classic, J Allen Barack talked about pristine realms.
So what can we do to capture that nostalgia of when WoW first launched? Over the years we have talked about a “pristine realm”. In essence that would turn off all leveling acceleration including character transfers, heirloom gear, character boosts, Recruit-A-Friend bonuses, WoW Token, and access to cross realm zones, as well as group finder. We aren’t sure whether this version of a clean slate is something that would appeal to the community and it’s still an open topic of discussion.
If these also had no flying or cross-realming, I think some people would definitely enjoy it. You’d still have the server community aspects but with new models/races, transmog, and new story.
There’s never going to be a version of WoW that makes everyone happy.
Your nostalgia isn’t a reason for people to build the game in any certain way.
I’m not intentionally saying mean things here, it’s just how it is. I personally long for a day when people I actually knew and gave 2 lumpy turds about still played it - but that’s just as likely as making the game fit exactly what makes you happy.
People make the mistake of “the community wants this” to be a real thing, when this “community” can’t decide which shoe goes on which foot most of the time.
Find ways to enjoy the game as it’s presented or just move on. It’s changed with every single expansion and if you don’t like it anymore that really sucks, but it’s not going to be put back into those boxes.

I’m not sure what the purpose of this thread is, you don’t really make a point at the end.
Personally, Classic-BC was the part of WoW’s life that almost made me quit. I much prefer modem WoW and do not want any Classic involved. Keep the two games separated.

I thought that I would love to play classic or TBC wow too because that’s when I had the most fun, when reality its not wow at all. It’s the fact that I was young in my early twenties, had tons of friends via the internet that also played, was part of a guild, had time to raid, had time to socialize in the game. The game itself was socially different than it is today. I got tells the second I logged in to tank or heal stuff for people… i miss it so much.
Everything I once loved about wow was the social aspect of the game that is no longer there. No one talks to each other. If you try to make friends you talk to people once and then never see them again. Now that people appear offline and people always appear offline. No one is interested in making long term friends anymore.
I think a lot of us are chasing that dragon that we rode in WoW all those many years ago, but it’s not the game. It’s us. We’re older, have jobs, have lives and kids, less time to raid if we raid at all. I bet many of us have very few actual hard core friends like we used to have. We will never get it back, it’s gone.
I remember one time way back then, I was part of a guild and people in it were from all over. My raid leader, and some of the healers had my personal phone number and would call my house and leave voice mails. My father (RIP) didn’t know what to make of these strangers calling from all over the country to talk to me. It was great times. In fact, I had friends in WoW that I had made while playing Everquest. I have no idea what happened to those people, but none of them play WoW anymore or if they do, they have changed accounts.
This is also why I can’t for the life of me get into the game right now, I have 0 friends in game. I log in, try to level something and log out 30 minutes later from boredom. I am excited about shadowlands and the tower though. Enough out of me.

I really ain’t asking for no old wow back. as my shaman and paladin got some old spells back that were removed which i never once asked for i realized why did they bring this back? i am already bored of them it wasn’t hard to learn anything back it all just came back to me. knowing shadowlands ain’t bringing alot of new except some passive +5% more damage or whatever i feel i’m going to be quite bored if i play shadowlands.
more interested in actually getting new stuff not recycled garbage i just get bored of in no time.
Pornstar name. hilarious.
Good luck to you in Azeroth.
