You at least beat him - and for that, I give you a big hurrah.
You never have to touch him again if you do not wish to - hopefully your golden blimp isn’t also bugged and not given to you. If so, PLEASE open a ticket and get word out - we all want our blimps.
I will never ever touch that guy.
I received nothing and yes, opened a ticket already.
Also thanks for your big hurrah!
Wonder how geared you need to be to just ignore every add set and nuke him. Could do it on"?" but “??” I died around 50%.
I’d reckon close to fully Mythic geared - and even then that becomes risky with how much bullets you’d have to dodge eventually.
Mechanically, I find this fight very easy. I feel like I could do it at my hunter’s current Ilvl unless there’s a lower health percentage mechanic I don’t know about.
But the issue I’m having is that the Underpin’s hitbox is too damn big, and I can’t click the bombs for him bodyblocking me in the middle of combat.
Set up an interact with mouseover keybind, this lets you kick the balls as long as you’re in range without needing to mouseover them because the game automatically behaves as though they’re selected if you’re standing by them.
There’s no extra phase or really noticeable mythic mechanic. It just has more hp and does more damage.
How would I do that? I’ve never known how to write macros myself.
It’s not a macro it’s just in keybinds → targeting
I have mine set to scroll wheel so I can pick flags in WSG easier.
Thank you, this should be a big help. Now I’ll see if my bravado was correct.
This “guide” is about tier ? or tier ??
Having just cleared this this morning, (Spent a few hours trying last night, figured I’d wake up and just try some more and hey) I’d like to give a bit of an addendum.
Personally I preferred Bio Matrix since the two helpers are always there and hit consistently hard, but whatever you choose ensure that you can break that barrier with it, preferably without cooldowns.
Really the biggest part of this fight is positioning. Move clockwise/counterclockwise around the arena. Stay around 7 yards away from the wall because the bombs have a huge deviance around you, and they can’t spawn outside the arena so it cuts that deviance down immensely.
Packs will spawn in lines of six depending on your location. If you’re near the entrance when this happens the spawn will be split, which makes it infinitely harder to wipe them out in a timely manner and will probably result in a wipe. These split spawns will also happen if there are corpses where they would normally spawn, so after you down one move around 20 yards to give room for the next pack. (If you’re in the north eastern corner of the ring, move to the south eastern corner) You have more room than you’d think given the frantic nature of the fight, so make sure you use it as, again, split spawns will probably kill you.
HIGHLY encourage an Interact Key being bound. As I play exclusively on controller I do this as a matter of course, but even if you’re on KB&M it helps immensely with interacting with bombs.
You can get away with not killing a few adds, maybe two or three, but the more left alive the more passive damage and more Molten Cannons you have to deal with. More than four is a huge risk. Not focusing them at all is a death sentence.
If he spawns more bombs and there’s no adds, kick the bombs actively in your way out of the way, and once you have room for the adds to spawn shove whatever bombs you can, or wait for him to launch more.
Soon as you hear that shield starting to go up switch all attention to Underpin and burst the shield down, or else you may as well wipe. While you can get away with Zekky healing, it just takes longer, time is not exactly on your side in this fight. You will eventually either get autoattacked, Molten Cannon’d, or just be unable to get to bombs due to ability placement.
His rotation is as follows:
-Autoattack
-Stomp
-Flamethrower
-AoE Barrage
-Time Bomb Barrage
-Summon Cronies
-Flamethrower
And after that, it’s hard to follow. As mentioned at 100 energy he starts healing, so it’s not based on HP%, but a timer. Flamethrower, AoE Barrage and Time Bomb Barrage has a lower CD than Summon Cronies, and sometimes he just runs at you and punches you in the face. Every attempt felt like a different mixture of abilities so I don’t know if it’s truly randomized or what causes the deviance.
Stomp can target you or Brann, so it’s not uncommon to see Underpin just leap across the arena because Brann has real trouble actually keeping up with you. I believe if you’re using pets they, too, can be targeted, and they will be one shot if so. I stopped trying as BM because of this.
These abilities can, and will, overlap. All of them have red indicators. It will be very visually busy and it will be very hard to keep track. Since positioning is hyper important don’t panic, try to get the timing for the AoE Barrages down so you can weave in between the AoEs, and don’t be too far from Underpin or else the Flamethrower cone will be extremely hard to evade.
Even worse, every time you break his healing barrier, he will squirt oil around. This oil does no damage, but will make things hyper slippery. Moving at full speed your character will be extremely difficult to control. Moving from a standstill you will have a multi-second buildup of momentum. Both are extremely bad as you need pretty precise aim with the bombs. If you have defensives/immunities, best to use them if you have to go into oil because you are likely going to get tagged by something.
Once he’s around 15% and his shield is broken, it is best to pop whatever you have left and try to burn him down. As I said, time isn’t on your side, and it’s not unreasonable to get him down that last 15% before his shield is up again. Ignore adds and just burn. Dodge best you can.
I understand this whole description is wordy as all get out. That’s because it’s a nonsense fight. It’s hard to follow, keep track of, and react to. There are situations where you will just straight up lose, and it may not be your fault. There are times Brann will either throw his potions in some obscure location that is now littered with oil and bombs, or on a flaming corpse, and you will just get autoattacked to death.
I’ve had many, many attempts fail just at the start due to bad bomb spawns, or just a bad mixture of abilities. You will chug through potions, buff food and especially runes trying this. Cooldowns will not reset in between attempts so you have around 2 to 10 minutes in between pulls if you want to be at your best.
I lost track how many times I tried. It’s well over 200, I know that much. But it can be done. It’s frustrating, it’s not fun and yeah, I didn’t get the gold skin, but you can do it.
Oh, be sure to get the Arathi Healer buff from the Arathi Infirmary. 5% HP every 10 seconds isn’t huge, but if you miss a potion in the red on red on red on red onslaught it can be a lifesaver.
Best of luck! Be the biggest deal down in Undermine.
How do I pin comments on the forums…
But yes, everything here is also GREAT information, heh!
My bravado was partially correct.
Downed him at 626ish ilvl, with a friend to tank around the same ilvl. Even with the mouse over thing, he still consistently bodyblocked me out of kicking the bombs and I hope Blizz might consider fixing it. Maybe make it so the bombs just require you to run into them, rather than click them.
Now THIS is a literal game changer.
I haven’t beaten it yet (best I got was 7%) but one thing that started making my life MUCH easier is you really need to mind your positioning. Walk the boss to the edge of the arena such that when he spawns his goons, they’re all in a nice little line right next to you with all the bombs in easy reach. Give 'em an easy bap bap bap and then scooch on over clockwise around the perimeter of the ring for the next set to spawn. The flaming corpses will take up spaces so you want to make sure you and the boss aren’t where those corpses are, otherwise you get something like 4 adds spawning on one side and 1 off in Neverland.
So long as I kept the adds under control, fight progressed relatively smoothly. Once adds start getting out of control things compound and that’s how I die. I figure there’s probably a % where you stop trying to clean them up and go hard on the boss but I haven’t found a good number for that yet. Probably sub-20%. Even still, keep your interact keybound and try to clean adds simultaneously while handling other things. If you leave the boss alone too long without doing damage to him the fight will drag on very long indeed and that’s just providing more opportunities for you to make a fatal mistake.
5 add sets, 4 corners then back wall.
Just posting with an update:
Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.
He just showed up in my tier 7 delve, unexpected and uninvited. I was running a healer at ilvl 630, no current season tier, and my tank Brann is level 39. Just trying to get up to a level 8 delve. Needless to say he destroyed me.
Good times!
Eyyy, grats!
