A fun tank and healer?

Hey guys,

So I have become quite bored with dps (only ever dpsd) and am chasing more of a thrill when grinding out dungeons and world content. With that said I was curious if anyone could point me in the direction of a fun tank and/or healer for something new. My main interests are world content and mythic+. I will say fun over viability however! If it’s number 1 in the meta that doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable!

Now why fun is completely subjective, I have a list of what I enjoy.

*fast paced rotation
*complexity>simplicity
*mobility
*support
*larger range of abilities

I truly appreciate any feedback and a push in the right direction

Thank you!

On the tank side a prot warrior/pally will cover most/all of those boxes

  • both are GCD locked and very fast paced with high ilvl haste stacked gear, especially prot warrior with constant proc management
  • overall the warrior is the better performer but the prot pally is king of utility generally in solo/dungeon content

On the heal side I think you would prefer holy pally or resto druid

  • the holy pally can bring close to or greater than the DPS of a tank in your group while throwing out beefy instant heals, though you have to be comfortable staying in melee range most of the time
  • the resto druid…well once you get used to the resto druid is simply extremely powerful in every PvE situation outside of raiding

Tanks aren’t really built on complexity. You have enough skills to keep you busy, but most of the complexity comes from positioning or managing your defense while tanking 10+ mobs and monitoring all the skills and making sure not to bork you group constantly.

Prot Warrior and Prot Pally for tanking

Resto Shaman and Resto Druid for healing. In terms of fun. Once you get comfortable healing, and if your group isn’t half brain dead, you can focus on adding extra DPS, and I’ve had the most fun in that department with these two healers.

Tbh, Druid overall is a solid choice. Bear is solid for everyone except the absolute best players, resto is one of the best healers, and all the specs feel just excellent in open world content. This is the first time I’ll have the same main over two expansions, cuz I just love the way the class feels. Regardless of what content you’re doing, you’ll have fun as a Druid.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. Looking forward to trying out all the suggestions these holidays

Thanks again!

Prot War + Brewmaster = always a button to push and great mobility

Resto Shaman is my fave healer, I love the utility.

You might like Mistweaver. The skills are intertwined and have some room for situational choice. I think it is a lot more fun than straight forward healers like Paladins and Priests. Very mobile too, give it a try.

If you want to heal m+ and actually get invited to groups past +10 druid is the only real choice for pugging. It’s pretty op and there is a huge community bias.

For healing the preference is strong

For tanking lol no stay away, a guardian druid even if played well is at best half a prot warrior, both offensively and defensively, don’t gimp yourself hard on purpose

Below a 15, any tank/healer with a close IO score/dungeon report for the content they’re trying will be fine.

15 and up, comps start to truly matter

There’s basically no spec that will give you thrills in world content, since everything just sort of disintegrates as long as you’re vaguely awake (and if you go get a sandwich and forget to mount up and fly to a safe height, generally fails to kill you then too).

For dungeons, seconding prot warr or resto druid. Monk isn’t exactly meta in either role for 5-mans, but it’s fun and has a lot of interesting tools.

Monk is meta this season for key pushes as tank.

Next season speculation puts MW up there with druid for groups who bring a balance druid.
