A friendly warning on marathon gaming + WoW Classic

It was on a day in 2007 I realised I played Burning Crusade for 16 hours straight, red eyed, exhausted… probably not smelling the best either. I’ve never done one single session for that long - and the worrying part was, I didn’t want to stop playing. Forced myself into bed that morning…

I am not condoning anyone risk their health by sitting in front of a computer for stupid amounts of time. Take your breaks - get up, stretch, wash your face - heck, take showers - drink plenty of (healthy) fluids. EAT! Get some fresh air - walk around a while.

… and having said all that, I plan on spending some (careful) stupid amounts of time on Classic all over again when it launches.

We’re all (mostly) Adults in this crowd - let’s be careful eh?

And it’s replies like the ones I have so far which make me genuinely worried for some people.

To me – those 16 hours made me pretty damned exhausted - I was 25 at the time I was a fairly healthy lad too. I can only imagine what more hours would do.

Just bear in mind - it was one 16 hour session - besides getting up to do brief bio breaks - I did nothing else but play BC. No food, no getting up - I just had a water cooler with me.

People will do want they want to do.

As long as they’re adults, it’s on them.

This pretty much. People need to stop worrying about what others do so much.

Hmmh I spent a summer playing 14-18h a day. I played mostly solo grinding some mobs. Way to go me

Wow… have we become so bitter that we interpret a bit of compassionate advice as being told what to do?

I never said you were telling people what to do. This really in itself is a non issue however. Nobody here is four years old.

I once did a 14½ hour leveling session back in I think it was TBC.
I remember my character died in Felwood and I was so tired and disoriented that I could not even find my corpse anymore.
So I logged out while dead and went to sleep.

All of this can be achieved without stopping your WoW playing if you are doing it right.

Get up, stretch, walk around - Play at liftable desk with a treadmill that can be swapped out for a chair.

Wash your face - take showers - Several FP’s are long enough to fully shower during.

Drink water, eat - this one is obvious.

Fresh air - Play outside, in a screened porch, or in a room with plenty of windows/doors that can be opened.

But you quoted the previous post in agreement and followed up on it:

This guy gets it.

Reserve naps and hygiene-related activities for times you need to take a long FP.

But he didn’t say you were telling other people what to do, just worrying about.

Semantics.

It’s a friendly thread anyways. Why worry?

20 hours was my record in one day during TBC. Back then though, I had no significant other and no real plans for the day other than a raid that Saturday night.

Maybe you can pioneer your comment and stop worrying about someone who gives a friendly warning about his worries. It is ironic how you worry about what people posts.

I don’t understand how this is a warning? You played a bunch and didn’t want to stop playing. Cool.

Maybe of you got a blood clot from not standing up, then this could be a “warning” post.

I’ve done 32 hour sessions during Wrath and Cata first week levelling.

I put in an 18 hour session once, i could have easily gone longer had I not had responsibilities elsewhere.
