I created this toon on a new account and new email just as a test to see if WOW is new player friendly.
For the most part I was amazed with my findings. Yes WOW is new player friendly. Having to start in Exiles Reach followed by a tour of Org, one of the capitol cities that I visit as rarely as possible. But the only bad thing was having to go to BFA. Eventually I used the command boards to get to where I wanted to level at. But should of had that option instead of being forced to go to Zuldazaar.
I didn’t have any boa but found that the game was actually a lot more fun without that gear and less expensive. Just a handful of mounts but then I don’t use mounts that much and have the one I actually like.
My only big problem was being harrassed in Thunder Bluff while I was trying to fish by a level 50 who was trying to milk players for 50 gold each to let them use the fishing pool. Kept telling me to go level. I had just put a token in the AH and was waiting for it to sell so I had some game gold and wasn’t walking around broke.
When I went to mulgore he followed me while calling me names. Kept shooting my targets so I couldn’t get credit for them. A total jerk. Finally I did the feed my dog quest and he disappeared. So I went back to Thunder Bluff and went back to fishing. Working on some achievements. Sure enough he showed back up and blocked off the pond with his boat mount. So I just sat down until he left. He either got tired of waiting on me or got called to dinner by his mommie.
It is jerks like this that is bad on new players. If I had been a real newbie I would of probably quit. But then again I have never liked people who are bullies.
So far in two days I have this toon to level 30 while taking my time and actually enjoying the game again. Not in any hurry to get boa but don’t really see the need to spend that much gold for boa and upgrades. For now the gear I get from quests and drops all seem to be upgrades and good enough to accomplish what I am doing. I could of used my level 50 boost but have decided to save that for another toon at a later date.
And I do like the newcomer chat that was added. Blizzard is trying to make the game new player friendly. Now if the jerks would just play their game and quit harrassing the new players WOW might become a great game again.
I would open channel and tell everyone this person is bothering you and normally folks would flock in to help. I know it happens with pvp at times when trying to finish quests when you’re a lowbie.
your stone wall to come is SL and wanting to run dungeons, if you like to dungeon level that is.
You won’t clear the ilevel needed to run necrotic when up at level 51. even with dungeon runs to 50. the squish killed this gear ilevel wise.
if your AH is bad for BOE green pricing…yeah, that hurts. so you will quest up that gear to run normal dungeon.
I’d advise not getting master flight for 4.5 K gold till well into SL leveling if not beyond. You may need that 4.5k for other things. UBU ofc…your gold not mine lol.
I really appreciate the advice. But the whole point of this account was to take a break from my main toons. I wanted to see what it was like to be a newbie again.
After seeing all the posts about how WOW wasn’t new player friendly I wanted to check it out myself with being a new player. I found that those posts was just a bunch of bull.
WOW is definitely new player friendly. Even though there are those players that aren’t new player friendly and go out of their way to try and take advantage of new players.
The game isn’t the problem, but the bullies in the game are. I am enjoying my new player account and will deal with SL when I get there.
I have been doing some testing of this myself with a new character or two.
Just hit level 30 today. I have never played Hunter so, learning that with help from guides and such.
I did get a quest to go to SW castle and start the BFA line, but it did not force me to do it. Instead I just went outside town to Goldshire and started the quests there and went through zones until I hit 30 and could fly!
Gear I got was actually mail for my class and reasonable to play with.
They have added some helpful things to the quests like warnings that you need to make your pet STAY to work the mechanic.
I got a lot more gold than expected from quests. I was able to buy all my riding skills, including flying, with just quest gold and selling greys.
Quests have been re-worked since 17 years ago and are a bit more streamlined. I found it easier to figure out where to go and what to do.
When you gain skills it tells you and puts it on your bar. Anything you did not have on the bar stays lit up in the spellbook to remind you. I found that useful - esp if new.
Quest sending you to get your flying training is excellent. Makes sure people are aware and go do it.
What I did NOT find friendly and really wish they would change
FLIGHT WHISTLE NEEDED! Please don’t make me trudge back through murloc infested waters to the other side of the zone to turn in 3 quests. I just want to call an Uber to the nearest flight point. I want this for ALL ZONES. Huge QoL improvement IMHO. I may even just ask in the CC forum.
Profession leveling for gathering skills in Vanilla zones. There is nothing telling you what the fishing or herb levels are in order to actually catch fish or get full flowers instead of petals. That was a bit counter intuitive. I remember it from Vanilla so knew what to go for, but new players would not.
Duel requests. Please for the love of everything let us turn those off in the game interface instead of with an addon. (if this is done and I just don’t know please tell me). It is very annoying standing there trying to actually read a quest with someone spam duel nonsense at you.
I find I have to look up HOW to play my class and how to handle pets. Still quite confused about a lot of pet stuff. I get button overload and resort to Wowhead which a new player might not know to do.
I did not do any dungeons so can’t comment on how those go for the under 30 set. I don’t do group content.
I would say WoW is a lot more leveling friendly for new players than it used to be, by far. I don’t play the other MMOs though so I can’t compare to how that goes. I also have not used the Newcomer chat although I think it is a great idea. The game is so complex nobody can ever sort it all out.
Ive not met anyone like that in my 12 years of playing. I mean, Ive met some idiots of course but that sort of harassment has happily not come my way. And he should certainly have been reported as Blizzard would not appreciate a new player being treated that way, its not good for their bottom line.
I would have found it hard to resist telling him that unless he skedaddled and left me alone I would report him for harassment and he would then get to enjoy his suspension. If he continued to do that it would only guarantee a punishment. If they are proactive on anything, its ingame harassment as it can be a serious personal issue.
Really, once they started following you around and killing your quest mobs you should have reported them for harassment, as if they’re doing it to you then there is a good chance they’ve done it to others and will continue to do so until there are consequences for their actions.
Other than that I am glad to hear the new player experience isn’t as bad as some have been positing it to be. Seems there are a few ne’er-do-wells on this forums who want to turn people off of the game, which is just bizarre tbh.
I would question why a level 50 is fishing in a newbie zone and on top harassing a a new player for gold . Just report him for it no need to tell him to fear him off,if he did it to Op he’ll do it to others along his way.
Aye true enough but as I said, Id be still tempted to tell him off personally. Thats just me, I dislike mongrels like that and my temper can get me reacting, which I guess is what they really want anyhow. So possibly silence and reporting is the better course.
I am a very avid fisherperson. For some odd reason there are people who love trying to block your bobber. I just get a bigger bobber and zoom in to first person view. I can usually manage to see through whatever they are trying to do.
Asking for gold is outright obnoxious and I would have reported him. Not sure it is against the rules, but it def is not ok. I would also put him on Ignore. That way he could not speak to me again. Let him be mad while I fish with my big bobber.
I love making and leveling new characters, it’s my feel better go to some days ,though I do try to restrain myself … don’t want more than I can reasonably log in and play … mostly.
.
I too have found the alt leveling very friendly up to korthia…korthia quests and requirements can still be redundant for alts .
Love having the heirloom stuff to start alts with makes picking quest reward items so much easier , being that you need fewer slots filled , and while the heirloom armor and items don’t have an overt exp gain on them , the using your rested bonus 60% slower does make a difference .
Why don’t cool things like this ever happen to me? I would have paid the 50 gold and pretended is was a great deal and asked if I could bring a friend tomorrow who needed a great fishing spot as well and would pay 50 gold and then a few more friends and on the 4th day A friend would tell the guy that the player standing nearby is only charging 30 gold to use the spot (me on an alt) and I’m not quite sure how it would all end but it would be hilarious.
It is the first time I’ve actually seen that person. He wasn’t even fishing. Looks like he was showing off his new mount while being a jerk. He was just in a boat mount in the middle of the pond blocking everyone. The fishing daily didn’t concern the pond. I was just working on catching some extra fish for when I wanted to work on my cooking achievements.
