A Discussion About The Beatles: Interested?

Doubt it, rumor mill kept on saying that Paul McCartney was sort of A donkey…

The Eagles all hated each other and they still played together. Liking your band mates not required to making good music.

True but he was asking if they would reunite, and I highly doubt it… between McCarthy and Yoko Ono… I doubt it would ever happen… but we will never know

In defense of Yoko, Lennon cut his son Julian out of his estate, because he hated his mother, and it was Yoko’s intervention that changed that so Julian got a fair share.

Totally not WoW related but my Mum used to hang out with them and others in the Cavern when she was a lot younger and before they really hit it big time. It was her local club.

I keep wanting to call an entomologist.

(Spelling is not my strong suit)

Hard to say. That’s a long time to stick together. Rolling Stones seem to have done it but they’ve had changes over the years, too.

Idk if the Beatles would have but I’d think probably not because they didn’t and they still could be a band today.

this belongs in off topic

also the beatles are overrated boomer slop

From what I understand, Yoko remained with John because she was basically his protection.

He really loved the ladies but she kept him grounded.

The papers said similar things about Linda when she married Paul, too. It’s like the papers were trying to stir up controversy where there may have been none. Idk.
Publicity ploy maybe.

Yoko sounded like cats fighting when she sang. I used to hear so many jokes about that. That was probably the most fun I can remember about them at that time as I wasn’t ever a die-hard fan.
I was very young then.

A boomer is a kangaroo and how you describe their music is what I think (privately) of heavy metal.

To each their own.

I remember growing up and, between the radio and the general public, just this attitude that you HAD to like the Beatles because they were amazing. And … I just naturally pushed back at that. They were ok, but … certainly not in the capacity that everyone DEMANDED that I like their music.

And then I became a touring musician for 10+ years. And during that time, discovered the Beatles on my own terms. Got to listen to it, digest it at my own pace and own appreciation.

And they blew me away.

I think that’s the biggest problem a band like the Beatles has is that people try and MAKE YOU LIKE IT. And humans naturally hate that.

But… when every band worthy of merit will tell you how revolutionary the Beatles are, you can either take the position they’re all wrong, or maybe you have bad taste in music.

From the 1960s Bob Dylan was a big deal. I never got into his music, I was very young but I remember he wanted to branch out and try different styles and so many people got mad at him he didn’t and stuck with the folk songs.

His son Jakob though, now he’s great imo. Lead singer of The Wallflowers, One Headlight, 3 Marlenas, etc… I love his music, the rolling cadence, his voice, everything about it.

Very talented family. Idk where they are today but I’m glad his son went into music so I didn’t miss out on that.

I tried that but it wouldn’t take just “Off-Topic”, so it wound up in games, etc. Can a mod move it for me, please?

Thanks, Red

Well, Lennon & McCarthy had very different styles. Lennon was a traditional rocker and McCarthy was more into pop and classical. Lennon had a rocker’s voice, more in the thoat and nose while McCarthy was more trained, from the diaphragm.

For a good example of their different styles take “Day in the Life”. When Lennon is singing “I heard the news today oh boy …” it’s in the style of a rock ballad. McCarthy singing “Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged the comb across my head…” is more pop.

Then McCartny and George Martin getting the London Symphony to go up an octive, each instrument individually, was a strange experimental twist on classical music. And that’s all in one song.

They were great working together but no question they were going to go different ways.

Do you remember this? Billy Preston, My Sweet Lord.

Written by George Harrison.

Ja, Billy. When he joined The Beatles on the roof and therefore for the Let It Be film directed by some bearded guy who I don’t know - Peter something . Did Billy have “Fifth Beatle” delusions, do you think? And ja, Billy is a great musician and singer!
