Just something I wanted to share.
As a DH main I very often struggle to fit my character into the canon of the game, even tho i played the entirety of Dragonflight and Shadowlands with my DH, in my headcanon he has been inactive since Legion just becoming a jeweler.
But, I actually managed to fit him into TWW!
In my headcanon during Legion my DH and Khadgar became good friends, so when the Harbinger stuff started happening Khadgar personally asked for his help
and well, i dont want to spoil the start of TWW, but due to that thing that happened, its why my guy is still adventuring through Khaz Algar, for his friend.
Demon Hunters, and Death Knights too, have this problem where they were created for a specific purpose and now that said purpose is kind of just gone Blizzard doesn’t really know what to do with them.
It would be cool to see what Demon Hunters are doing now that the Burning Legion is effectively defeated, we know Broken Shore is still infested with demons so some DHs are there I’m sure, but what about the rest? Are they chilling? Are they getting normal hobbies and such?
Same for Death Knights, now that the Lich King isn’t around what do they do?

That is why they have that built in safe guard to them to keep on killing, if they don’t, they legit feel crack addicted pain. So them selling their services to the dragon expedition or helping the Earthen is just a way for them to consume the hunger of killing.
Same with demon hunters, they need to feed the demon in them. So they will kill things to carve out small soul fragments to consume.
At least one of them got really into pet battles in her retirement and I respect that.
More seriously, a few showed up on Amirdrassil (spelling dubious but I don’t really feel like checking), so there may at least be some tentative attempts to reintegrate. Or they’re out there punching assorted threats.
I see Demon Hunters, somewhat like Witchers (Geralt and etc), where nowadays they operate more as mercenaries and monster hunters for rewards, occasionally acting for a greater good.
The same goes for Death Knights, but they act more as an organization rather than “lone wolf” mercenaries.
Marius showed up briefly with Tehd in BfA, fighting a rare that was a demon. There’s probably still demons running around getting into mischief, so there’s plenty of monsters for demon hunters to chase after if they need something to do. As for the death knights, there were indications at the end of Shadowlands that the now-leaderless and uncontained Scourge have probably made a mess in Northrend, and ICC is still a dangerously powerful place. Darion effectively reclaimed leadership of the Ebon Blade from Bolvar by telling him that he needs to be present for Taelia, and stated that they now have an ongoing mission of guarding ICC and keeping the remaining Scourge in check.
I see the Ebon Blade kind of like The Nights Watch in Westeros. Not illegitimate sons, murderers and criminals. But undead. Reprehensible villains in black living in banishment from society.
They find purpose in protecting the world from the undead horrors that lurk in the frozen wilderness. Protecting a world that they have no place in. Tragic anti-hero stuff.
You actually see some demon hunters protecting dalaran during the invasion and after the crash as well.
A hunter is nothing without the hunt, demon hunters just need to find new prey, and old god minions, agents of death and evildoers are probably good replacements.
Work for the ebon blade, work for their racial capital, work for their faction, build their own factions, police undead, police creatures that are hard for mortals to police.
The undead are hard for the void to contend with and death knights especially have tons of counters to typical void fare.
The idea that I can’t do anything now that Arthur is dead is dumbo.
I said we don’t know what they do. Blizzard hasn’t really shown or told us, other than we know Bolvar had the DKs collecting bodies and turning people into more DKs to prepare for Sylvanas showing up at the Frozen Throne. After that we have no clue what they are doing.
Everything you listed makes sense for what they’d be doing, but we don’t know if that is in fact what they are doing.
ya! I like the idea that Night Elf demon hunters will rejoin Nelf society being blessed by Elune to use their skill to protect the Dream.
I now need a similar thing but for Belves xD
I wish Blizzard created “class skins” so say a Night Elf DH has abilities and effects etc changed to look druidic/fel imbued by elune.
I think it would be amazing if the Illidari organized again to create an organization similarly to DKs, they could even train new DH after they discover less cruel ways to do it (it would be a good way to explain new races as DH) During BFA they had Bolvar train new DKs so to explain the new races as DKs, well a similar thing would be cool to refresh DH imo.
In Dragonflight they answered what Demon Hunters are doing at least Night Elven ones. They are still Illidari, but they’ve integrated into Kaldorei society and still train themselves and those who wish to master the fel. Go to Amirdrassil and you will see them there. Same with Altruis who is discussing this with the DH who starts the mini secret quest chain to unlock the wargraves blessed by Elune.
It appears that Elune has no issue with Demon Hunters and still answers their prayers and rewards the player character with a powerful weapon. This implies that DH are not only more or less slowly being integrated to Kaldorei society, but that Elune herself accepts them.
I think DH can play as champions of the Illidari and heroes of Azeroth/Quel’Thelas/Amirdrassil. Same with Death Knights. Those who train and recruit do so sparingly or at least under the oversight of the Kaldorei government as seen with the watch tower. I think that’s the best answer since Horde Demon Hunters get the same follow thru if you play a DH during Dragonflight. You’re a hero fighting evil be it dragon/demon/whatever.
No. But having some DH or DK NPCs who are chilling in places or show up in a questline here and there to show what they are doing after their respective expansions would be cool.
That isn’t special attention it’s just showing what is going on in the world.
