The worst part of blizzard deciding to randomly make new forums and delete the old ones, now every single bit of info shared with people since the early days of wow, is lost.
Try it…google a question related to wow, a glitch and how to fix it, where to look for x y z, etc. It takes you to the main page of these forums instead.
For example, I’m having an issue with something, trying to figure out if it’s an addon problem, a bug, or I’m missing something…I have clicked 3 links, all of them broken and take me here. All of them looked like they would have had useful info from the preview.
The old forums being closed is particularly hard on the addon/macro community. Lots of tips, tricks, and techniques for writing WoW-flavored Lua code that aren’t properly written down anywhere else totally gone, just like that.
I get that keeping the old forums running was costing them money since they were dynamic code (PHP I think) pulling from a database, but they could have at least found a way to render it all into static HTML, which would’ve been dirt cheap to host in perpetuity.
Ahhhh…that’s why !! I just tried to get info on the recent guild tab issue and kept getting sent to the main WOW forum page instead of specific post. That’s unfortunate. Why the heck did Activision/Blizzard delete the old forum information ? There was a wealth of knowledge there collected over the years !! Maybe it was $ saving initiative ?? IMO…it’s just another small thing ( to them ) that could have an opposite affect, compared to what their bean counters are telling them, to their bottom line.
/thinks : “geezz, what the heck?”
Old lore discussions completely erased. A lot of roleplayers have contributed a ton of info and insights but now it’s just gone. The snip-it of it is in the search but it’s mostly gone now. Sad to see it because there was a lot of helpful and interesting stuff discussed.
You just need one extra step when clicking on the link. If you look just below the link, you will see the actual website. Just to the right of the website is a drop-down arrow. Drop down that arrow and click “cache”. It will take you directly to the old forums.
This has been verified several times. Just remember, don’t actually click on the link to go to the website, just drop down the arrow and click on “cache”. Clicking on cache takes you to the old forum.
I know there’s other ways to get the info, but often it was easier to just google, see “hey this person had the same question, lets see if they got an answer” 9/10 that is how I’d get my quick replies to my own issues or helping a friend or guildy with something.
