I do - I have a max level reaper and recently cleared the MSQ and extremes.
The only thing that they didnât fumble is the instanced content.
- MSQ is mediocre
- Class design is poor. Itâs unacceptable that black mage was released in its current state. Viper has to be a troll job, it has zero depth outside of its few positionals
- Over half of the MSQ is not voiced (how??)
- The graphics update is not in fact a graphics update. Itâs a texture resolution adjustment with modified lighting. Hundreds of cutscenes look worse (if not more) due to this change

While thereâs certainly been a fair bit of criticism concerning Dawntrail, more than ShB and EW, thereâs been a LOT of appropriately throttled expectations as players actually settled into the fact that it wouldnât have been as good as two juggernaut expansions that came before it. Between it being the start of a new story arc (hell, Iâm tempted to put that on EWâs patch cycle based on how DT is playing out) and other factors, itâs not realistic that itâll be as good as the grand finale itâs following up on.
If anything, those trying to complain are coming across as trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Now, is DT as bad as Shadowlands?
Not even in the slightest, and Iâve only played through SLâs storyline after-the-fact (and that was actually quite recently, a little over a month ago). Itâs downright atrocious, and Iâm actually grateful to have avoided what it was like during the expansion itself.
DT doesnât reach the same peaks as ShB and EW, but thatâs what (most) players knew was coming. The player is acting more as a mentor character while the actual protagonist of the plot is one of the NPCs, though it seems the tail end is shifting into a bit more intrigue.
SL was a trainwreck in nearly all aspects.
OP knows that. Theyâre just grasping at every opportunity to denigrate FFXIV. Thereâs been a slight uptick in the criticism with Dawntrail, so presumably the WoW-brained forum user assumes itâs dogwater.
A lot of it is coming from whackjobs that found out Wuk Lamots voice actress is trans which isnât helping matters. The story has issues, no question about it, but a lot of the âreviewsâ are also complete nonsense.

Sir, this is the wow forums.
Iâm skipping the rest of Dawntrail myself. I understand theyâre setting something up and the story is slow. But not having to fight a single battle for two hours just feels awful. The narrative is a lot slower and a lot less interesting right NOW, and that deserves criticism. Lots of it.
So much fun stuff going on with WoW for the next year and a half or so. When I burn myself out on that, Iâll check in with Eorzea again.

Itâs weird. Itâs like some people think there is a limited amount of âgoodâ to go around, and if another game gets called âgoodâ, then there is less âgoodâ available for their game of choice.
Of course to be fair sometimes people really do actually hate stuff, even when they are trying not to. Personally, I tried so hard not to hate GW2 but alas⌠

Yeah, I saw the brigade on Twitter with Grummz leading the charge on it. Dude is a slimy grifter and itâs funny people continue to give weight to anything he says simply because he worked on WoW two decades ago.
I agree that the story has issues, namely with pacing. But again, I donât think they would have been as magnified had the expansion not come off the absolute highs of ShB and EW. No expansion serving as the foundation of the next 10-year story arc was ever going to match the finale of the previous story arc.
Also free bites for an easy rabble rousing topic which wouldnât have gotten this much attention if placed in the Entertainment forum thread.

isnt that what most wow players do when they talk about the game that shall not be named. make an entire post of lies and half truths to try to make it look as bad as possible.
The half truths being full of âMy best friendâs sisterâs boyfriendâs brotherâs girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid whoâs going with the girl who saw âŚâ quality information.
