A courteous word about LGBT representation

I don’t condone bullying.

I think being homophobic is probably worse, conceptually, than the act of being gay.

Thank you. And ditto.

Feel free to point at times they’re being ‘bludgeoned over the head with the topic’ and also feel free to consider any cases that might occur where people do the same with straight relationships or characters.

Press X to Doubt.

Very singling out for ‘the gay community’ but as I recall you’re not a good example of the ‘straight’ community.

I’m glad you don’t, but it’s obvious many on these forums do. Fighting hate with hate is never the answer.

It’s pretty clear that’s not what I said. I said that some of you are fighting hate with even more hate. That only strengthens the ignorant ones that attack you for being gay in the first place. You play right into their fallacy that you are “the enemy”, because you immediately make an enemy out of them.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. I didn’t know many gay people. I thought they were “strange” and very different from me. As I got older, not only did I meet many great gay people that were no different than me, I found out many people I went to school with were secretly gay, and had to hide it.

That horrified me. I felt terrible that they had to pretend to be something they were not. I am extremely happy they can now openly be what makes them happy in 2022. Two of my closest male friends in high school are know married, and I am so happy for them.

But seeing some members of the gay community act so hateful at people that just want to play a game without real life issues they might not understand or want to confront, get attacked for voicing that opinion, is rather troubling as well.

Are some people outright bigots? Absolutely. Are most of them doing it to get a reaction? Most definitely. What is the best reaction for these people?

Ignore them on these forums, report their post, and don’t respond. Let people like that starve to death as an unfed troll.

Showing them that the gay community is above such pettiness is the best revenge.

The Starlights also are men that turn into women in battle. No one batted an eyelash about it. You know why? Because that’s just how it was. That was the source material.

As I’ve said before it’s not the subject or source material people find issue with. It’s people who demand things like Tweedle-Tal and Tweedle-Tul, in an argumentative over the top way like as if they were Donald Trump’s Mini-Me clones.

But then they have the gall and audacity after spewing their garbage 1000 times on the forums to call people phobes for saying. “Ok. Enough.” This is why I refuse to believe that either of them are anything but bad-faith posters, and bad actors.

Respect is a two way street. Most players are happy to give respect to the LGBT community. They merely expect the same to be given in return and that is not always the case unfortunately.

Anyone who cannot do that or argue with facts, instead of emotional outburst; is the problem and should be shut down, disregarded and tuned out. Most especially when / if they try to turn violent because they didn’t get their way.

Can you quote some of these opinions and the resulting attacks in this thread?

I don’t think there has been much of that in this thread, hence it still being up.

I am talking more about the multitude of threads over the last week. All of which have been removed.

Some general examples I remember is calling anyone that raises a mild concern being labeled a bigot/homophobe (including me many times), telling people to leave the game and that this is “our game now”, and bashing the religious (which I am not) because of a very few extremely intolerant individuals.

You’re not even wrong. I agree with the sentiment. Some people take a more militant approach to this sort of thing, and of which I am guilty for as well I’ll admit. The thing is, an LGBTQ+ thread is such low hanging fruit. It’s a hot button issue that people seem to feel very strongly one way or another.

From my perspective, I’m just trying to enjoy the game. I think it was actually neat to see all these more unique characters that really touched my heart strings. Whether it’s getting the chance to interact with and help a gay couple or the Dracthyr archaeologist with a physical impairment.

I don’t think they take away any fundamental part of the game, but yet they are the target of unrelenting scrutany. From my perspective, it’s something I can and do appreciate, and it feels like so many bad actors want to come in and tear it all down. For what reason? Because it’s “yoke” I guess. I don’t even know what that means or why it’s supposedly bad anymore.

I used to believe this is true but I no longer feel that way. As you have observed yourself, people build walls and are not interested in having an actual discussion. They want to vent, mostly, and in turn having a debate on the existence of LGBTQ+ characters / people is just not something that is producing anything meaningful. People build narratives for themselves in their own head and want it reinforced. You and I also do this to an extent.

In turn, I don’t really care anymore what people think of me or if I play into the stereotype they have invented for themselves. It won’t change what I believe or support is the right approach.

I grew up in the 90’s and felt the exact same way. It wasnt until much, much… muuuuch later that I actually realized that I wasn’t what I thought… I still don’t know how to make sense of it to this day. But all that is irrelevant.

I still pretend, so to speak, but most of my life I just didn’t know.

Bruh I :purple_heart: Panda Express!

So then I take it that you are an out & strong lesbian who is all in favor for lesbians being “top dog,” possibly even a full on Matriarchal society? If so, more power to you, sister! :rainbow: :rainbow_flag:

Either that, or… you’re just perverted? Because why only female/female relationships that are fine?

No it wouldn’t you bigoted moron.

/thread TBH.

I wish I could give this 100x Hearts.

Technically you’re the bigot if you dont like that.

Did that season ever actually get dubbed? I know it wasn’t ever aired in the same way that the first couple of seasons were. Partly because of the fact that Funimation couldn’t “fix” that in editing >.>

I don’t think it ever was, no.

The LGBT community has events like this all the time in real life, so why shouldnt it be ok in game? I’m on your side, but I’m making a point. And people are calling me a bigot.

No, you’re not on-side. You’re acting like it and are instead using what’s above - baiting the usual “won’t someone please think of the CHILDREN? They’re trying to abuse our impressionable CHILDREN!” - when no, NO ONE actually on-side is comfortable doing anything erotic around children.

With all due respect, say exactly what you mean.

Edit: Jbob, this apparently wanted to reply to you… go figure @.@

My brother in christ.

You are unironically arguing in favor of “p” in a misguided attempt to make a weird point on an anti-LGBTQ+ stance like it’s some kind of gotcha.

THAT’S A BIG YIKES

Flag them. “p” has never been allowed. It doesn’t matter if they were being facetious. They were still arguing in favor of it. That’s like, illegal territory bruh

Well, called their gotcha…

Female/Female is sexy. I do love my yuri manga, anime, and ahem the other one that starts with an H well enough.

Blockquote

do you understand you proved my point by responding negatively to my first comment? so you agree with me!!! thank you

Let’s put this on-the-record because apparently it has to be said every single time this comes up.

  1. Child abuse, sexual behavior involving a child, etc. ARE ILLEGAL AND JUSTIFIABLY SO.
  2. Claims of the above are used as a bludgeon against the ENTIRE LGBTQ+ community regardless of their truth.
  3. The ENTIRE COMMUNITY is not responsible for the actions of any individuals that do indeed perform such acts. The actual commission of them, where TRUE, is reprehensible and cannot be accepted regardless.

Why is it that every time the LGBTQ+ “debate” comes up, this is inevitably brought up? We’re quickly maligned as either pedophiles ourselves, supporting of pedophiles, or actively enabling them through willful ignorance or conscious choice. We’re all made to answer in the most disrespectful attack one can muster: libel.
