So I’ve really enjoyed playing my Destruction Lock, it’s by far my favorite toon. I do mid to top damage when in dungeons and i’m having a great time. I have two questions about abilities I never use…
-
Specific pet abilities, there are a few I see, I never use them. Should I be mixing them in my rotation? Which adds the fact when are certain pets preferred, I always have void walker out.
-
Curses - So we have a bunch of curse spells, do any of you use them regularly? I have tried once or twice but not sure if it makes a difference. If you use them, which ones and in what cenarios.
Thanks!
Not an expert but to in my experience

Only “good” pve pet for dungeons is Felhound (rip observer). The Spell Lock interupt ability (tied to command pet ability) is essential in almost all dungeons. His other ability is a single target dispel magic effect that can be useful in niche settings IF you have akeybind for it. For pure single target (i.e. patchwork fights) technically Succ/Inc is better but imp can have higher uptime if the boss moves a lot. The succ Seduce command pet ability is 110% useless in pve and the imp Singe Magic has some use in current dungeons but the trade for the interupt is debateable. The big blueberry should never be used in group content.

Curses of Weakness/Tounges can be good for boss fights (tongues for caster types weakness for melee obviously) as long as you remember to keep it active. Curse of exhaustion can be used in situations where kiting one to two mobs (i.e. boss adds) is mandatory but i do not recommend trying to tab target all the mobs in an M+ pack for curses (maybe tag that OP caster with tongues for easier kicks but thats it).
On a side note; R.I.P. Impending Catastrophe
ETA that Demonic Grimorie is technically a dps loss i think atm but is a valid option if you dont plan to use Felhound dispel. It makes Spell Lock your spell instead of the pets meaning it can be more reliable cuz it doesnt need to wait for the felhound to use it if that makes sense (same goes for imp Singe Magic).

Does felhound do the interrupt without my intervention or I have to manually?
Amplify curse with curse of weakness makes it so the target can’t crit. It’s not meta but combined with absolute corruption and sacrolash’s dark strike it can be interesting.

You have to tell the Felhound to interrupt.
A little off-topic, however, I’ve been playing my Destro lock recently and (once I got used to not trying to stun/interrupt with him) I couldn’t help but notice how easily the Voidwalker loses aggro, which is weird since taking damage and holding aggro is his forte.
Now, my Felguard doesn’t have this problem and, though I haven’t played one (so correct me if I’m wrong) I don’t think Aff would have this problem either. So, it seems Blizz really need to tune the VW to work better with Destro’s more bursty nature.
Also, reducing Shadow Bulwark’s cooldown from 2 minutes to 1 minute (or 30 seconds) would be handy too!
