Right before the servers went down, AV popped and I clicked enter. Now I can’t get in without that pop up showing up.

Same. Able to log in to alts, but not my main, I also had just attempted to enter AV on before servers went down. Seeing ‘a character with that name already exists’ for about 20 minutes or so.

Same for my main toon. It also doesn’t show a location for her on the login screen like my alts show they are in Ironforge or Stormwind.

I just dont understand why after all these years this still happens. If this was any other profession or service the people responsible would have been fired long ago or the company out of business. Fix the sh*t. Dammit.
Hello, replying here to say the same as OP. My queue for AV popped, I hit enter, nothing happened. I showed to be “in AV” but I was in Org able to interact. Shortly thereafter the server crashed. I now get the “A character with that name already exists” bug when I try to log back in. I did open a ticket
GL to everyone while they resolve…

There is a post over in the customer support forums instructing people to create a ticket to have their character forced offline: Can't Login - Character With That Name Already Exists - #10 by Berrywhitex-stalagg
Yes and there is a 24 hour wait time on those tickets.
Better get it in now then I guess, 
No wonder so many servers dying in classic.

3 hors now and I can’t log into the toon i was on when the AV i couldn’t enter popped. Unclecarl of Skeram. Plese fix this now blizzard, or give me credit for the honor i’m losing every hour. This is BS.

i had to do a live support chat and ask the gm to kick my chr offline and he reseted a few things and it worked.
