Decided to give it a shot a few days back and I have to say, it’s what I hoped SoD would be.
Blizz should hire the talent for when they ditch SoD and actually start working on proper Classic+.

I’m, legit, convinced at this point that server is unofficially run by Blizzard. And the ‘real dev team’ works on that to see what works then passes it on to be implemented ‘quick and dirty’.
I say this because it’s way more professional than other pServers. And the content they come out with is just…“how has the lawyers not gotten involved”; it’s that good. The new UIs they create…it’s not just some one making a UI. It feels like a WoW UI element.
They even have the new character models that are completely optional to use.

They use vanilla client or classic client. The different is vanilla client doesn’t have controller/ steamdeck support, which is very important for me to play
ascension did staggered caps first too and had the same population dropoffs at 40 and 50

Is that even “Classic+”? It looks like a Retail “Custom Game” more than anything else.
I have to assume OP means Turtle WoW.
Other video games exist with a professional/polished UI. This is just a game studio that is shameless about using assets from Blizzard. They’re heavily monetized with pay to win elements and use that money to pay professional developers. They have paid professional script writers and marketing. They’re just thugs who are stealing from Blizzard and profiting from it (in before “boo hoo stealing from a billion dollar corporation” etc).
Presumably they’re Eastern European, far enough east in European to be outside the reach of American lawyers.
Anyways, setting the scummy business elements aside, if Ascension didn’t have the WoW nostalgia would it even be that popular? A grindy pay-to-win game with zero class fantasy where you grind randomized instance dungeons. I’m skeptical. Sounds like some low-tier Korean MMO.

Anyone who says this is outing themselves as never actually playing a pserver.
Pservers were hot trash with dozens of glaring issues; the only reason they were played is because it was literally the only way to play the game.

Yeah. My younger brother was playing on a Pserver back in the day, it was a buggy mess where you could just swipe your credit card and buy warglaives in Vanilla WoW. And that was like 90% of P-servers. I think there’s a lot less of that nowadays now that the “Vanilla Itch” has been scratched, but back then this type of thing was absurdly rampant - there were no “good private servers”.
Yup. It’s hard for legit companies to rerelease stuff. These folks do it fast, but it is definitely not the same.
I never really appreciated the difficulty companies like Blizzard have rereleasing stuff. There is so many issues with licensing etc. When you are wondering why XXXXX movie or game isn’t available online for downloading from legit sites, it is probably because of a licensing problem. None of these companies knew where everything was going and didn’t get these folks to sign up for it.
It’s seems to be with the music scores/soundtracks most of the time

Blizzard also, for a long time at least, wanted to maintain the “Blizzard quality” / “Blizzard polish”. In more recent years they’ve sort of lost this aspect (Warcraft 3 Reforged comes to mind) but they used to put some serious effort in to make sure that the brand meant something.
