A BONE to pick

I’ll cut straight to it, folks. It’s my opinion that Bone Shield is in dire need of a visual rework. I wanted to open a dialogue on the matter before it’s considered “too late.” I wanted to lay out my options if I were in a position to make these calls.

They are as follows:
  • A solo questline to change the appearance of bone shield similar to the warlock questline. It’s Bone Shield not femur shield. I want to see some of the different bones that make up the anatomy of my foes.

  • A Glyph to make it less noticeable, similar to the Druid glyph, Glyph of the Stars, I believe. Something (most importantly) to stop the constant rotation of the 4 femurs.

  • A complete visual rework for the ability’s visual effect for the release of Shadowlands.

Bone Shield has been around for quite some time, and the visual effects being visible all the time make it impossible not to notice that the visual effects are objectively dated.

Please feel free to weigh in, folks, even if you don’t agree I would like to hear your opinion and reasoning. :grinning:

I don’t have any problem with the visual. Maybe make the bone thicker? But I think they are fine.

Now, if they would come up with a glyph that transforms the bones into turkeys floating around you, now that would be a good visual!

I want to know, why are you ok with a 10 year old spell visual? When it could be so much better. I just ask because I want to know the reasoning.
Thanks.

I work in tech field, and we have a saying, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it :stuck_out_tongue:

I personally dont mind it either way but your ask seems to be at odds with itself. If you want it to be less noticeable, my first thought is then what does it matter what it looks like?

I agree, I have to run around healing this nerd and I see the visual effect all the time. He’s a Vulpera, not Cubone! Give him some variety.

How is it at odds with itself? There are 3 totally different options? The ask is to not have 10 year old femurs all the time!

I kinda wish the Bone Shield shares with Unholy spec.

Cuz you know… Necromancers. Eh?

Like why not?

Why not both Demo Locks and DH have meta?
Why not both Resto Shamans and Mages control Water Elementals?
Why not both Blood DK and Unholy DK have Bone Shields?

All with different functionalities man… So much cool potential wasted…

Why settle for ‘good enough’ though?

That’s not how Blizzard rolls. Qualified you are for that tech company but you’re unqualified to work for Blizzard.

i mean why would you? lol

They have a saying:

If players are having fun? FIX THE CRUD OUT OF IT.

Oddly enough, Bone Shield was Unholy only when DKs were first introduced. It was Unholy’s strength as a tank role during its time.

Sorry ur right, i read that as 3 parts of the same thing instead of separate options, my fault.

Which is exactly why I was like… Why not put it back on Unholy?

The point is that it’s up all the time as a tank. It could look way better.
Imagine if they never touched bear form for druids.

It should be like ‘mana shield’ but instead a whirling pool of blood.

You are draining the lifeforce of your enemies (blood) and using it as shield to deflect their attacks. Feels very vampiric and blood like.

I would love to see bone shield stack bone armor up on us. Similar to other games that have bone armor effects.

Basically we hit our target to get stacks of bone shield, and when we lose stacks chunks of it fall off or crumble to dust.

This is what I like to see.
1 stack = 4 femurs
10 stacks = 4 femurs
(???)

It could be super rad just with some visual tweaks. Teamwork makes the dream work, lads.

The key distinction is that it does not takeaway from the aesthetic of your gear. I don’t want to look like some generic bone giant running around - leave that to the Druids and their shapeshifting.
