So I recently made a thread about this in the “World’s End” RP forum, but I have a guild in mind that I’d like to make a reality. The only problem is that it’d be sort of a collaborative writing project–a shared effort by people dedicated to the spirit of the idea.
What I have in mind is a “nobility” guild that’s more grounded in historical accuracy than the nobility seen in fantasy like “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Using the sort of traditional English or French nobility as a model, I want to construct a guild whose structure resembles the residents and staff of a country estate house. Essentially people in the guild would fall into three groups - the family, the staff, and friends of the family. Naturally, part of RPing such a role is understanding that there’s quite a gulf of class between the family and the help, so people need to be mindful of that.
For the family (the actual noble residents of the estate), you’d have the patriarch and matriarch. Maybe a widowed grandparent?? The heir, the spare, and whatever other children were born of the current lord and his lady. Naturally, the lord-to-be would find himself immersed in the learning of his upcoming role and responsibilities, and any young ladies would be similarly engaged–tutored by governesses and generally preparing themselves to try and land an advantageous marriage–while the other children might find themselves with a bit more freedom.
For the staff, you’d have the usual suspects (again, using the example of a Victorian-era English or pre-revolutionary French household): The butler (who’s like the household’s general manager), the housekeeper (same, sorta), lady’s maid, valets, nursemaids, kitchen staff, scullery maids, chamber maids, maids-of-all-work, the stablehands, groundskeepers, footmen, and coachmen.
Friends of the family would just be like anyone who doesn’t fit into these roles–business associates, lady friends, war buddies, whatever.
The majority of the RP would be internal and sort of mundane, but I personally think it’d be quite satisfying. And also there are social events to consider–formal dinners and house parties and soirees and even balls! Am I insane or would that not be totally fun??
Who’s with me?
