I was 1 shot on my 60 main. Shadow priest hit me with psychic link for 501,480. damage.
Help me understand please.
I have the screenshots of it, if needed. How is this possible?
There was a rogue next to me who said she also 1 shot him, for 100k + damage.

Hm.
Did they fry a critter?
It’s x% damage from some of their single target abilities onto those affected by their dots, so without knowing the setting I imagine it’s that you were dotted and they mind blasted or mind spiked a nearby critter (or target dummy?) for like a million.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t know what you mean. What does that mean? It confused me seeing that as well. My cheat death went off, and I still died, is that what that is?

Y’all were dotted and he mind blasted a critter near you would be my guess. Assuming this was out in the open world correct?

You weren’t hit for 360,724, you were hit for 501,480.

Thats alot of power! I dont know the circumstances, such as your damage reduction from resilence, what buffs they had stacked etc but i was able to one shot people prior to prepatch with the 20% crit dmg and kyrian echo leggo and the kyrian ability with glacial spike from just my own buffs and against high resil targets (20% dmg reduction and up)
Arcanosphere also hit for a lot if it crit!

Fun (certainly soon-to-be nerfed) interaction with Vampiric Touch, Psychic Link (which deals a % of Mind Blast’s damage to targets afflicted with VT), and casting Mind Blast on low-level mobs.
Basically, they tapped you with VT, then cast MB to nuke a random low-level critter or something, which caused MB to deal like 3 million damage due to the legacy buff, which then caused you to eat like 500 thousand damage.

Because Blizzard didn’t think of certain clever uses of mechanics.
As others have pointed out, they dotted you up and hit a critter. Psychic Link for Shadow Priests causes Mind Blast, Mind Flay, and Mind Spike to deal 15/30% of its damage to any target with Vampiric Touch on it.
Which, when you attack a low level mob like a critter in this game, you do insane amounts of damage.
Which 30% of is still enough to 1 shot you.
It’s almost certainly not something they intended to have happen, and they just didn’t think of doing it in their testing.

Only in a memecleave scenario.
Like a duel or world PvP. They DoT you up, and cleave a fat Mind Blast or something onto you from a critter or other low level mob. Death by game mechanics.
Think Warlocks had something a while ago that functioned much the same involving Havoc. Could even kill people in duels, which was hilarious.

That seems pretty game breaking for open world pvp. Im STUNNED this not only exists, but hasn’t been fixed yet – and that people are exploiting it.

It is due to the fact that critters are one of the few things that were not scaled properly in game when scaling came about. This is a known exploit. You can also do this exploit by group phasing with your garrison and then coming back to open world and hitting those same big numbers on players in open world but that exploit was mostly fixed from what I have seen. Just as how me and others are able to exploit still using our covenant abilities in open world now too.
This stuff should be fixed but I highly doubt it ever will be.
