I think the group comp was pretty uniquely set up for success.
When I tried in a reasonably geared group, brann broke our traps.

Officially I’m an arms warrior for raiding but I enjoy tanking so I tank where and when I can. I do worry about my group so I watch the healers mana and don’t go ham on every pull. The less the group dies the better the run will be.
Now THIS is a debate. We need more diversity indeed. A D.Va slurping a milkshake while slapping a big bad!
I’m the nicest tank in the world. When people in my dungeons want to tank, I let them!
Your comment made me wonder if this isn’t an age issue.
Like a bunch of us late X/Millennials just want stuff to be organized and have good runs and Zs are in their prime trying to pull all of Azeroth and AOE it cos they have a Fortnite play in 15 mins.
Yep. I don’t tank pugs anymore. No matter how I tank they complain, I’m going too fast, going too slow, not using some skip, did use the skip, didn’t do an optional boss, did do the optional boss, the whine never ends in pugs. No thanks.
I tanked raids in BC on my warrior, imo its not really a fun game play
Not right after but the amount of disruption you use really takes off.
This very well could be something. I have wondered similar sometimes but not necessarily saying the lines are solid and cannot be blurred.
Also wonder if the streamer mentality has made it worse.
I’ve given tanking a try. Let the group know I’m just starting out, everyone seems fine, but there’s always that one player that wants to rush. It’s not the healer, it’s some random DPS (always a Blood Elf too). They don’t want you to learn, they want you to move at their pace even though you have stated you’re just starting out.
Most people won’t even make it to end-game if they’re being treated poorly as a tank during the leveling process.
I enjoy tanking. Not great at it but I do find it fun. I can see why majority of casuals don’t play it. I have to do some homework before getting in a LFG/LFR on how things are done. It can be intimidating if you care how the group plays. When I played DPS, it was easier for me to just yolo and follow the group and not really needing to have prior knowledge. Playing Tank for me is rewarding in itself as long as I’m geared for it. I level as a prot. I love the grind. Also I do find doing delves great. It helps be become a better tank by doing problem solving on my own. Maybe this can provide some feedback for those that want to try the role but are intimidated due to the pressure.
I love tanking. I just do not do it very often. Groups make it miserable. DPS feels like I get to roll along and enjoy the content, while taming feels like I’m managing a group of children. It’s a shame, because I do enjoy tanking.
Fair point.
I also feel like M+ does have a hand in this.
I mean, rushers always existed, but the whole “timer” thing made people go insane over stuff they shouldn’t.
One good example is delves. People are saying that delves are very hard now. I pull mob per mob instead of going AOE mode and I get by fine, either solo or in a group. Maybe these people are rushing too much?
Not all blood elves, but always a blood elf.
I love tanking but I hate having to also be the guide that knows the shortest route. If I could go in and fight through the dungeon as intended I’d tank with actual people a lot more often.
Tank nerfs are good because them being immortal gods isn’t.
And if tanks were to be immortal gods, can everyone else be elevated to that level so that tanks aren’t needed?
Blizzard was trying to copy FFXIV for some reason. That is just my guess on how tanks have been pre nerf.
Ill tank so long as its fun. Prot pala is not fun since SL so I wont go near it
Self made pain by Blizzard by nerfing tank self-sustainability.
Actually the nerf is not as bad as the rumors are telling. But Blizzard makes tanks less fun to play, by making it harder to stay alive, beside from the original tank job to pull the right mobs (and the right amount of them), pick the correct route, do interrupts and other stuff.
And now everyone is surprised that no tanks are available.
I know where the tanks are (at least for my tank): currently running delves, because that is less stress and more rewarding than doing dungeons with randoms currently.
Im aware of the latest tank changes but my issue with prot is more about how the spec works and the changes done to the spec. I cannot soeak for current changes because Im not tanking, but they look bad.
I don’t queue as tank specifically because of the dps pulling stuff and being abusive about it issue.
Just easier (read: less stressful and annoying) to go heals and just hang back and keep everyone alive. Still have to deal with dps being tools, and the semi-frequent crazy tank pulling 1/2 the dungeon at a time, but healing the mess is easier and less annoying than trying to tank it.
And if it’s too dumb, I can leave and go mining for 30 mins. (Only had 1 run stupid enought to bail on so far)
If we ever get back to the tank being the leader of the group, I might tank again.
Tanks only lead if the game forces them to, but then many tanks would be dying because they aren’t good enough.
