u join a m+ almost no one ever talks and you think you arent already pretty much playing with npc’s?
I mean I’ll greet people and stuff when forming up, but I try to not waste time typing in a timed event unless it’s absolutely necessary. That being said a lot of communication has moved over to voice chat like discord servers. Technology has advanced a lot in 20 years and that is a common way to communicate that keeps hands free. People are just a lot less likely to invite pugs to their discord servers because who knows what type of person that stranger is.
It’s the same it’s always been. Tanks didn’t get nerfed. There was a slight system correction in group content dynamics. It’s was a good thing and not even as dramatic as it should have been
Y’all could also… and this is a wild idea, but hear me out…
…roll tanks?
The best random group are the ones where nobody says anything and they follow you as you tank, it’s really that simple.
Lol this has been the case since the good ol’ days of standing in trade and looking for a tank. Being a tank comes with a lot more baggage.
Luckily there’s enough to do without having to tank for super petty randos these days. People got really picky about how others tank their dungeons, but refuse to do it themselves.
There are plenty of raid tanks since you only need 2 per raid group.
If we are talking about undoing tank nerfs, you better toss in the nerfs to DPS self healing as well.
Yeh well as pointed out by basically any tank who cares is not going to be pugging, at this point it’s an emergency choice, we may pug 1-2 into our groups, but we don’t join another group solo as a tank, we run in guilds and communities where we do talk and communicate.
The tanks who join pugs are the antisocial, snowflake kind who are scared to interact with people and will leave at the first signs of trouble.
Yeah nah… When you’re the goat you can pick your battles. Tanks usually tank for friends and guildies. That’s why the randos wait.
At least the wait isn’t as long as the wait we are doing with getting our items returned to our Guild Banks! It’s been over a month already. This really makes Bliz and Microsoft look bad!
The amount of times I got told to do a different route in an M+, to the point of people threatening to kick me, only to see me wave them bye as they kicked me and their key depleted. 1 min later I was back in another group for the same key and they were waiting there at the door. Another wave was cast at them as I rolled in.
Preach!
my main (only toon actually) is my guardian druid.
I have run about half the m0s so far. in the 595-598 ilevel pocket, m0 is not a problem to pull 2-3 packs at a time and grabbing a fourth. If I know there is a fear in the packs, I go small.
there are three things for me in terms of not running a ton of m0:
-
I spent time in delve 8s spending my coffer keys
-
I haven’t had time yet to revisit some of the earlier dungeons for mechanics.
-
not all of the m0 dungeons offer the gear upgrades I need (2h and trinket)
oh, i will add 4: i stupidly tried zekvir ? level for hours yesterday. complete failure…
Nope. Tanks needed the nerf and that is not the reason you’re waiting on them in pugs.
It’s always been waiting on either healer or tank for pugs depending on the expansion. You’re seeing what happens when the pug tanking community gets fed up with randoms.
I used to pug tank for normals/heroics/lfr. I still do normals for leveling, but as soon as I’m level 80 Ill ask my friends or my guildies if they want to do heroics/lfr. Why deal with the chaotic and toxic nonsense in lfg/lfr when there are alternate sources that result in more enjoyable game play while still getting the loot you went in for?
It’s a community problem.
Note: Tanks are still godly by all means in the content I mentioned. M0 and M+ are going to be the only place you see a difference in survivability as a tank.
Not really sure how you could fix tanking… its the boring role with a low skill floor and low skill ceiling.
A brutal tank mechanic is simon says for example. You could make harder dps checks a thing in lower difficulties but I think that would make things worse.
Anyone who thinks that AI can replace live people in higher content has clearly never actually ran the higher content.
Take a look at what we currently have. In follower dungeons, the followers can barely get off a CC or Interrupt and you’re stuck doing all the mechanics yourself anyway. In M+ and to a smaller extent even M0, there are multiple things that need to be stunned or interrupted or carried out of the group at the same time or in quick succession.
Not to mention how much the followers just butt pull through half the room because they captured the full spirit of a Hunter having him jump all over the place.
Then there’s Brann. He’s also all but worthless in the Delves. He started out as completely OP just because of how much damage and healing he was doing and his stuns and dispels had like no CD. They brought him down to be more realistic and now people are complaining that they just can’t AFK behind him the whole run.
Y’all don’t want to hear this, but you don’t only want solo content. You just want to be carried.
Are you 12? You type like it.
We did it in a group.
- Blood DK
- BM hunter
- Ret pally
- Me as a guardian druid pressing “change specc” to restoration and anxiously keeping bars up with buttons
What we did:
- Everyone stood at melee range (easier to dodge his stuff)
- Ignore egg
- DK pulls add as soon as he spawns from egg
- DK keeps add interrupted until dead
- Pally was in charge of boss interrupts
- Hunter trapped the last add
- Lust at about 20% to finish him off
Easy kill
That abuse stims from the expectations people have of their tanks performance.
If the devs are mounting difficulty and responsibility on the tank with each passing expansion what do you suppose happens?
A. Tanks job gets harder.
B. Tanks struggle to maintain performance and meet players expectations.
C. Players react to tanks not performing and not meeting their expectations.
It’s all related.
I switched to tanking because DPS was exactly that. It still is.
