All great ideas to see added! Either through Timewalking, Trial of Style or the next expansions equivalent of ‘Island Expeditions/Torghast’!
So many great assets just waiting to be used!

Imagine the mount potential from a Timewalking Revamp?
I know people are sick of recolors, but if the alternative to not having recolors is having these unused models sit forever, rotting the in the files? I say, to hell with that. New content can give us new mounts but Timewalking? Why not old unused mounts?
Imagine one of the unused Gladiator Netherwing Mounts seen on the left?
Or, better yet, the Armored Netherwing on the right (which is NOT the gladiator Netherwing - look at it compared to the left drake. Armor is different). You may recognize him as the final boss of Hellfire Ramparts!
Or why not complete the Dragon Hawk family and reward the last unused Dragonhawk (with proper shading on its wings)? Sure, Timewalking got a Dragonhawk, but why not a second to complete the set!
Or how about Darion’s Death Charger? Sure, it’s similar to the Shadowmourne version, but why not add the third missing color?
Or how about the unused Frostwyrms from ICC? In total, there were 4 Frostwyrm colors in both armored and unarmored version. Gladiator’s in Wrath received all 4 of the Unarmored versions while raiders received 2 out of the 4 for 10/25 ICC achievements. To this day, the other 2 raider mounts are unused!
Again, if you hate reskins of mounts, I hear you and I understand. But I see absolutely zero harm in advocating for unused colors for mounts we already have in content that isn’t super challenging/demanding. I like new mounts just as much as anyone, but let’s have the artist/modelers focus on upcoming content with their new stuff, while old stuff is put to better use than sitting in the files for 13 years!
More mounts to come in next post for Cataclysm!
Hmm, I didnt expect a green version of dk tier 11, but it does look nice
I’m also a sucker for releasing unused armor sets/colors, so yea give us better TW vendors/rewards
This is such a good and thorough post.
Heck. I’d love to see them survey the top few color schemes for each class used in transmog and recolor other assets to match as well.
I’m assuming that the UV (texture) files have layers that separate every color onto its own layer and can be given HSL shift layers in something like Photoshop or Substance.
If the UVs (textures) are set up as I detailed above it could take very little time (5 minutes or less, I can go into Photoshop and hue shift something in under 2 minutes) per texture file.
And if multiple UVs are stored in one big image and is then sliced up for use when exported, it could take minutes to do an entire set.
Great work. I agree with all of that.
Maybe we could have some other nice mounts in the unused mount skins. What do you think about these ones? I find these models could be a pretty decent addition for a Timewalking Revamp.
Fantastic choices!
The Blue Hawkstrider is the last of the Hawkstriders that remain unused (that is until we get updated Hawkstriders - maybe in 10.0 )
Blue Deathcharger is an obvious choice too!
The Unsaddled Demonic Horse may not fit Cataclysm as the updated Horse model came long after Cataclysm (BFA, if I recall? Maybe late Legion?) So I’d definitely swap in the Scorpion instead as that first made its debut in Cataclysm (as a Guild mount)
The twilight Drake would complete the drake family too!
Blue Mushan is such a cool mount - a shame it’s gone unused!
The Stormcrow is an interesting choice - it would fit the family of the Arcane Crow from Legion and the Fire Crow from Rhukmar!
And a non-Demon Hunter exclusive Fel-bat would be a great choice!
When 864 artifact appearances plus maiden hammer/taeshalach/both argus scythes aren’t enough
I hope for a Vanilla timewalking.
Let the raid be ye olde Naxxramas. Or Blackrock…
And elt the vendor give us no lngoer obtainable classic loot like Corrupted Ashbringer, Lok’Dhelar, dungeon sets, etc.
You really missing the actual context of my damn post by focusing on a single line?
The entire thread is about unused weapons (and armor/mounts) from each expansion era.
Every single expansion has had dozens of unused weapon models and colors from cut content or stuff simply not implemented.
Legion gave us Artifact weapons and as a result, there’s next to ZERO unimplemented models from the entire Legion expansion due to that fact - hence why “Since Legion obviously didn’t have a whole lot of weapon rewards” - purposefully including the fact that Artifacts replaced weapon drops.
But yeah - way to miss the whole point of my thread and try to turn a genuine feedback/positive thread into something negative lmao
Transmog is pretty much the fourth “pillar” of this game’s endgame at this point. They could really turn trial of style into something special and make it have some really cool rewards. Same with timewalking. Very good post; hope we see some of this stuff added (all would be ideal lol)
Honestly, agreed.
I’d argue that Transmog is the convergence point for each of the pillars. Most players want to look cool - and that isn’t limited to transmog.
Deciding how your character looks, the mounts your character rides, the pets that accompany them, the armor/weapons they use, the titles they bear - all factors in the “I play to look cool”. Everyone has a different idea on what looks cool - some people like to use the biggest, baddest most elite set to flex their coolness, others like making unique stuff from a variety of sets.
Whether you’re a PVPer, Raider or casual player, Transmog is important regardless - it’s so rare to see a player not transmog their armor and just got the ‘naturally unmogged’ route.
Trial of Style is another huge untapped market and I really wish someone would give it the love it deserves - even if its just giving us a new reward every 6 months when ToS comes around again
I just want a way to earn the WoD challenge mode sets. I’ll grind it. Just make it doable
Relics were your weapon drops. Or did you just gloss over the traits they gave.
And the reason I pointed this out was because your statement is no different from what classic andys say about legion. And we all know how competent they are.
Intrinsically a new drop is something has different stats and/or new icon/equip appearance.
Relic slotting gave new traits and stats plus the 24 weapon appearances per spec gave a wildly divergent array of weapons that could be numerically iterated in the game.
Man, you’re certainly missing the point of this ENTIRE thread - this isn’t about being a Classic Andy. This is exclusively about the unused assets that come out every single expansion. Relics do not have an appearance to them - they were stats only and that is not what I am arguing here.
This whole thread is about UNUSED Weapon/Armor assets from each expansion era.
TL;DR: Because Legion gave us artifacts, no weapon kits were designed based around Legion zones which means the volume of unused assets from Legon is significantly smaller than any other expansion due to the artifact appearance system.
When Warlords dropped, there was a huge array of unused Draenei, Orc clan, ogre and even Arrakoa weapons that were unused. As the expansion went on, some were added in 6.2 but many, to this day, remain unavailable.
Same in Mists: Tons of assets from the Mogu Kit, Shado-Pan kit and Island Pandaren kit that remain unavailable, even though a handful of them were added to the rewards table for players.
Then comes Legion where the whole basis of the expansion is that we get Artifact weapons for the entire expansion (with multiple models and colors which was great) but because of that, there was very little weapon assets made beyond the class artifacts.
If Legion would’ve not had Artifacts, we would’ve had armor/weapon kits revolving around the Azsuna Elves, Suramar, Highmountain Tauren and probably some Vrykul stuff and out of ALL those themes, many of them would’ve remained unavailable to players as is the case in every expansion for the last 17 years.
But because we players were getting 1 weapon for the whole expansion, the art direction was shifted towards those assets.
So, in my opening comments, I was explaining why the Legion Vendor was unique - because unlike past expansions where the Devs can just pick 3-4 weapon drops and slap a Timewalking tag on it and throw it on a vendor, there was NONE of that in Legion. No weapon drops aside from a handful of cosmetics. Because of this, the Dev who made the Legion TW vendor got to go free-for-all on the weapon models and they chose the Nightborne Suramar NPC’s weapons.
There weren’t many unused weapons sitting in the files from Legion because, as you said, we got artifacts.
