9.2 Learning from FFXIV

The biggest thing that gives me hope about WoW was the announcement that they’re taking a piece of FFXIV (“bad luck protection”) and putting it into the loot system.

Being able to work around RNG is a blessing that tons of players will enjoy.

I hope to see more of this implemented throughout the rest of the loot system/tables/etc.

For further consideration - if RNG is being mitigated and players won’t be dragged along for nearly as long throughout an expansion chasing after pieces they still need, I’d recommend adding additional achievements and rewards that motivate players to continue playing across various specs, roles, and characters.

Something like getting AOTC across x classes. Or across all 3 roles. This way even if they get gear a little sooner, they’ll still be motivated to continue playing through positive reinforcement that they have control over rather than having them feel like they’re chasing rewards that are tied to dice rolls.

It’s not a new concept, WoW had it during MoP and WoD but they removed it because it encourages you not to play this often.

Speaking of FFXIV I just brought it today, Any suggestions on fun classes?

Tanks in FFXIV get AoE moves earlier. I’d recommend them.

I think that’s why the OP also reads:

Machinist is fun. Dragoon some of jobs you need a character that’s already 30 or 60 and have unlock certain points in your main quest.

All the classes will start out fairly slowly and gain in complexity over time.

However the two I enjoy the most are Paladin and Black Mage(Thaumaturge at the start).

Paladin because I love tanking, and it has by far some of the best mogs in the game.

And Black Mage because… well…
Nothing beats watching a tank pull everything in the dungeon to the wall and being able to line up a good explosion:

Red mage is great!

I think the Summoner rework looks awesome too.

Well the great thing about FFXIV is that you can play them all on one character without having to regrind stuff you’ve already been through.

Depends on what is fun to you. I like mobility and ranged, so Bard and Dancer are both fun. Both highly mobile and ranged. Pretty much everything can be cast on the move.

Samurai is pretty fun and just feels cool to play. Reaper is one of the new ones coming in EW that looks pretty fun.

Healers do a lot of damage also if you have any interest in that. You’re expected to dps as well as heal.

Is bad luck protection like the roll thing in MoP? If so, I actually kind of like that back in the days. If not someone please explain.

At least it’s usually not too long. I play on Balmung so I get a queue on every login, but it’s usually really short.

I think it’s just going to be a currency.

You get a shot at loot from each boss, but then you’ll also get a currency that when combined from items from PvP or M+ will allow you to flat out buy a piece of tier gear.

So if you go months without a tier piece ever dropping - because of RNG - you’ll still be able to start acquiring the pieces with the currency.

Well that’s nice I guess. RNG is frustrating at times but it is kind of like the lottery. Nice for some things to change.

Exactly. Honestly, I don’t even like RNG when I get lucky.

It feels like I dodged a bullet - and for anyone that’s ACTUALLY dodged a bullet; it isn’t fun.

I’d rather have rewards that are proportionate to the effort and time put in rather than relying on luck.

Technically if you’ve never been shot you’ve dodged every bullet that’s been fired since you were born, which is impressive. :man_dancing:

Not the ones that were shot AT you.

Hello… back in MoP, WoD, & Legion, WoW had bad luck protection. It was nice, especially in Legion. Then BfA came along and the lead developer decided that rewarding people was bad. So he got rid of that and nerfed everything to the ground (including gold you got from anything in the game). My point is, it didn’t come from FF14, it came from what they have done in the past (like everything else in 9.1.5)

What would really help them out is if they brought back real gear vendors where you can actually see the stats on the gear so that you can purchase the correct gear needed for your toon, instead of all this RNG and hoping you get something garbage.
