9.1 Torghast tuned to iLvl 252 (Mythic raiding)?!

On 9.1 PTR, Torghast Layer 12 was originally tuned to 226 iLvl (Normal raiding gear), but is now tuned to 252 iLvl (Mythic raiding gear). Is Torghast now being designed as companion content to raiding, to reward raiders and make them feel more powerful?!

Keep in mind that raiding gear in addition to having maximum potential iLvl will also have 5 bonuses from 5 individual Domination Shards, and the set bonus for having 3 shards of the same type will also be active in Torghast. Also, keep in mind that PvP gear will be maxed out at 246, as the +13 iLvl PvP content bonus will not be active in Torghast, while not having any shard or set bonuses.

Hardcore raiders have been complaining about Torghast for months, and now that content is designated for them? Let Torghast drop competitive gear for the soloist players that may actually enjoy Torghast, and then the artificially increased difficulty would be justified because it could serve as a progression system.

If Torghast goes live like this, we may see another repeat of 9.0, where players will be frustrated and unable to finish Torghast because it is overtuned and players do not have the means to earn the gear required to complete it reasonably.

Players do not want to be denied access to content that they assumed was meant for them, or to be told by the game that they are not good enough because they do not raid. Players will not be happy if they have to complete Torghast for a few extra weeks because they have to complete lower layers for lower Soul Cinders rewards.

I enjoyed Horrific Visions in 8.3, and assumed Torghast would be the evolution of that content. I was very wrong, and regret buying this expansion.

Well. Sounds like I’ll never complete level 12.

You didn’t get the memo? All content is to be raider focused from now on.

Apparently raiders aren’t being coddled enough this expansion.

I’m clearing level 8s solo on a fresh 185ilvl…

in my opinion they should be much harder than they are.

I’ll have to test it later, but considering how well lock does there I doubt it’ll be a big deal at 226.

Probably because it rewards the new sockets and conduit upgrades so they don’t want ppl to have all max lvl conduits and all sockets the 1st week of 9.1

Unless they just completely change the difficulty you can do them at a much lower ilvl than what is recommended. I completed the last layer of TC on this toon around 195 and it recommends a lot higher than that. I’m sure it will vary from class to class but I’ve always gone in lower than the recommended across the board on my toons, I’m not sure that will change. :woman_shrugging:

Twisting Cooridors layer 8 is for “225 ilvl” which is mythic and I cleared it at 210 ilvl, just because it’ll be tuned to 252 doesnt mean you wont be able to do it at a lesser of an ilvl. Torghast’s biggest problem for player is that player need to use their brains which is asking A LOT for this playerbase.

I’d be down for that if they provided gear and other things to hunt to make it worth the effort. Shadowlands has a huge “not feeling rewarded for your time/effort” problem.

I know they’re adding shoulder transmogs in there to buy or something, but not really the same vibe.

And, sure, they can make things harder. But IDK many people who like doing things just because it’s a challenge, especially in these sort of games. Maybe a handful of folks pushing M+ past 15 or something here and there when they’re bored.

I mean considering I was doing layer 8’s on my grossly under geared paladin, I struggled with soul forges as I couldn’t keep up with the ticking rot dmg. I don’t think its going to be as bad as your making it out to be. As layer 8’s are currently tuned to heroic level gear, with layer 8 TC being tuned to mythic, and I cleared that without a full mythic set solo a couple weeks after it was out.

Layer 12 of Torghast is the “final solo challenge” of the patch, equivalent to TC 8. You get an exclusive horse mount as well as others mentioned, sockets, conduit upgrades, additional soul cinders, and shoulder/back mogs as well as non-combat pets etc.

Standard Layer 8 was nerfed into a trivial joke because Blizzard didn’t have systems in place to cordon players off from the potential of losing hard and crying like big babies. Now that only players who are geared for the content can attempt it, and therefore Blizzard has protected players from harming themselves and wasting their own time, they can proceed with challenging content that have actual rewards.

It’s sad that Blizzard has to redesign a whole system just because people will waste an hour of their own time to get to a boss they can’t beat, but I suppose it is what it is.

TL;DR: It’s totally fine, dare I say a good thing for this to exist. And if you really want to push for this, if you max your torghast meta-progression to cap and have full fully upgrade korthia gear you’ll probably be able to complete these challenges anyways.

Could have had something to do with the change to the Empowered mechanic they made…don’t know. But Korthia gear should get us pretty close. Feels like more an achievement when you don’t outgear it, at least for me.

You act like raiders enjoy torghast lol it’s a trash chore trust me when I say raider would want it easier just to get through faster this isn’t coddling raiders it’s a middle finger

Torghast feels like a lost cause that is just sucking up developer time like some kind of black hole.
I don’t even understand what they’re going for with it in 9.1
Timers, ranks, more affixes? M+ already has all that.

Without Torghast SL would have launched on time and 9.1 would have released months ago, instead they keep trying to make it not suck while refusing to go back to the beta iteration people enjoyed.

Tuned to a high item level doesn’t bother me as long as it remains a recommendation rather than a requirement. I enjoy the challenge of going in undergeared. Just don’t punish me for then taking my time with the smaller pulls my lower item level requires. The idea of going in at the recommended item level and breezing through Torghast in 12 minutes does nothing for me, personally. I’d rather engage for half an hour and have fun than waste half that amount of time being bored.

If they ever actually gated it behind ilvl, you-must-be-this-tall-to-ride style, I’d probably just go play Burning Crusade and forget Shadowlands entirely. I’ve been relatively happy and having fun, almost entirely because of Torghast and its adjacent activities (like getting Ve’nari rep up for the Torghast upgrades, stuff like that). They already ruined casual PVP; if they locked me out of Torghast I just wouldn’t have much else that interests me.

Yes it does. It’s a glaring problem, especially when compared to previous expansions, and is really the root of every other issue in SL currently.

You probably only need enough gear to get through the first floor. Once you get the right powers, you can do Torghast naked.

What is so important that you MUST complete layer 12?

Does it provide a big reward compared to the previous layer, or just a small increase like 7 to 8 currently does?

Who exactly is the target demographic of Torghast, it’s really confusing…

I’ve heard multiple raiders say Torghast is a boring chore and unfun…

I’ve heard mythic players say the same thing since they like to avoid trash where all possible…

I’ve heard casual players including myself say Torghast isn’t fun…

So who is this content designed for exactly?
