[9.1 Spoilers] Nathrezim Lore Opinions

Hey! I just wanted to gauge reception of the new Nathrezim lore.

I had been reading this: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Enemy_Infiltration_-_Preface

From what I understand of it, the Nathrezim were actually creations of Sire Denathrius, and they were then sent out to spy on and manipulate all of the other cosmic forces? Just curious, what are your thoughts on it?

Personal Opinion

I don’t really like the new lore. It just feels unnecessary. To me, it doesn’t answer any questions. I mean, was anyone thinking, “Gee, did the Nathrezim really just come from an alien planet?” It’s one more thing adding into their generally dumb vibes of , “Everything bad was actually insertnamehere’s fault all along! Aren’t you surprised??”

The thing is, when the book originally appeared, some opinions were like “would Sargeras really act like that given his skill and supposedly strategic mastery etc.?” And there was some intrigue, how did the preface work, did they fail, what about Aman’Thul’s abilities, etc.

So far the only IMO interesting part is their supposed fail with the Light. Other than that, I feel like execution did not deliver.

The dev were so focused on portraying dreadlords as some sort of amazing manipulaters achieving oh so much, that in the process did not bother to consider that in some cases it cheapens / contradicts what is known before.

Kind of like the Jailer instead of developing personality is just robbing agency of other characters we met before.

p.s.: female dreadlords nowhere near dreadlord Jaina quality.
:unamused:

Imo, this Dreadlord stuff is the best stuff coming out of Shadowlands. The “Anduin, Sylvanas, Bolvar, Jailer, Jaina, Baine, Calia” train has been a dull ride. The Dreadlords and Brokers are a nice diversion.

Man, as a nelf fan, I’m a little offended that Tyrande wasn’t higher tier than Calia.

I will be honest, she hasn’t been that bothersome. I thought about adding Tyrande for lulz, but then I thought it would be more funny to leave her out. I am glad someone noticed hehe.

But so far, she has been apart from the rest, doing her own thing, so she hasn’t been so fatiguing. You don’t see her much unless you are Night Fae. While the rest are in your face all day no matter the Covenant. Though I hear her plotline is merging more fully with the main one in 9.1.

Hell, even then, I think she’s only in the first of nine chapters. The other eight sometimes talk about her, but she doesn’t show back up lol

Tyrande only physically shows up in like two chapters. Both involving the Maw. One to try to get to her to leave and than rescuing the NE from Torghast with her help.

How convenient for Blizzard Developers that Tichondrius hesitated before calling Arthas a Champion! They can now claim that Tichondrius was about to call Arthas the Lich King’s new host but switched to the word “Champion” just in case Kil’jaeden was listening in.

Tichondrius distrusting the Jailer’s loyal servant of course is still wise considering said servant’s replacements could not be controlled at all!

In the end the Nathrezim’s rage towards Ner’zhul for convincing Arthas to kill Mal’Ganis(as the Chronicle Vol. 3 states) was justified as Ner’zhul was utterly incompetent concerning his chosen vessel.

The only thing the reveal seems to contradict is Balnazzar, Varimathras and Detheroc being confused by the Legion not contacting them…unless they were expecting to be ordered by Kil’jaeden to clean up the mess caused by Ner’zhul’s betrayal which would result in them breaking the Helm of Domination and opening the way into the Maw.

Of course Kil’jaeden choosing Illidan could have been caused by a few things:

  1. He saw how powerful Illidan was and thought him the perfect tool or…
  2. He was listening in on Tichondrius’s conversation like Tichondrius suspected and caught the hesitation in Tichondrius’s statement as proof of treachery and chose the one most likely to just kill the Lich King than do something unexpected(not realizing that killing the Lich King would play directly into the Nathrezim’s plot)!

The new dreadlore lore is pretty cool, ngl. It also explains why they act the way they do :wolf:

Really you like this? Uff I would’ve expected else from you. This hurts.
What can I say? I hate it.

I really don’t like stories where they artificially trick the viewer.

If you have a plan for characters or some group to have been secret agents for some purpose you have to lay the ground work for it.

Coming in years later and doing revisionist lore with “well awkksually everything was a lie and I was faking the whole time!!!” Isn’t interesting it just feels like I was lied to in a way.

If you are going to do it… leave clues! Cryptic dialogue, references… anything!

I can see Mal’ganis being loyal to Denathrius but they can’t offer Lothraxion and Tichondrius on this villain’s team concerning how their stories were handled.

Yeah, like I said, alot of the main narrative is getting tedious, and the characters at the forefront are not very interesting to me. Bolvar was a jerk to Horde Characters in BfA, so I want to mock him every time I see him. I certainly am not enthused to see him as much as I do. He is even on the Forums.

I am happy for any diversion and side plot.

Also, I have been eager to see Malganis get back into the story, so almost any excuse is fine by me. The way he appeared at the Broken Shore was such a tease. The fact that Legion ended without him being a part of the battle was curious, and certainly made me more excited to see what he has been up to.

Don’t you mean Varimathras, Detheroc and Balnazzar? They were the ones showing confusion towards the Legion not communicating with them while Tichondrius outright hesitated in calling Arthas a Champion as if he knew Arthas was intended to be the Lich King’s Host Body yet didn’t want anyone from the Legion to overhear during his talk with Anetheron and Mephistroth!

Incidentally Detheroc is the Dreadlord threatened with being flayed alive by Anetheron if he failed to retrieved the Asset that Denathrius sought while Mal’Ganis distracted everyone.

Tichondrius of course despite clearly knowing Arthas’s true purpose was suspicious that Ner’zhul would attempt an early backstab against the Legion by interfering with Archimonde’s summoning!

As Kel’Thuzad stated it’s in his nature to fear the worst. Kel’Thuzad tells Arthas to tell Tichondrius nothing yet later admits to Arthas that Tichondrius already knows what’s going on with him and Arthas so it seems he is just keeping Arthas from talking due to wanting to amuse himself with “playing secrecy” even then!

Well, sorta as Lothraxion did destroy Balnazzar and his determination to help the failing army of light succeed just doesn’t sound like Lothraxion cooperates with the dreadlords of the legion if we are to see this character become a double agent.

If Lothraxion is indeed a double agent working for Denathrius then Detheroc is practically gangpressed by Denathrius’s 3 top agents Tichondrius, Anetheron and Mephistroth to get what Denathrius wants!

Detheroc is clearly not trusted considering Anetheron used threats to keep him in line!

Every time we see more on the dreadlords it makes me miss Varimathras.
