9.1 is out, why a pre-release download?

My battle.net app is still trying to do a “Pre-release download” after I update WoW (Retail). Since 9.1 is out, why is it doing this?

I haven’t allowed it to finish, even before 9.1’s release.

You can disable pre-release downloading entirely in the Battle.net app. In fact you should do so because not doing so can lead to corrupt game files.

That would be great! I don’t see an option to do that, though. Where is it?

This is happening to me as well. The download never finishes and eventually disappears. It tries to download the pre-release every time I open the Launcher.

Settings > Downloads > Never automatically apply updates

That will stop future patch data from downloading.

That’s what I’ve been using. Every time I complete an update, which happens way too often and usually doesn’t actually update anything, the pre-download starts automatically and I have to pause it.

I was thinking there was a way to prevent future patch data from auto-starting after an update. :frowning:

That’s weird, since the settings I gave you should prevent that. Is Scan for Battle.net games in the background every launch active? If so, make sure that’s unchecked too. You basically need to dumb down the Battle.net app as much as possible in order for it not to suck entirely.

Note: One way this could happen even with the settings I gave you is if you click Play before a patch has finished downloading and have inadvertantly corrupted your game data. In that case, only a complete reinstall will resolve this issue (make sure to back up your Interface, WTF, and Screenshots folders first!). The reason it continually occurs in this instance is because the corrupt data is downloaded every single time because CASC never properly flushes corrupt data from its index system, so it just keeps doing this over and over again. Patience is a virtue with CASC.

Are you saying that CASC - which has been out for at least 7 years - not only won’t get rid of corrupted data, but constantly redownloads and corrupts it in the same way?

It gets rid of the corrupted data, but apparently does not fix the problem in the indexes, so it keeps downloading the same data over and over again. It’s a good tech, but was made so overly complicated that things like this were bound to come up eventually. Best way to avoid the situation here is to simply never click Play until patching/installaing is completely finished and the “reclaiming disk space” process is also completed.

I just found a way to make it stop trying to pre-download (even after 9.2 came out!). Or rather, it was forced on me.

My battle.net app just broke/crashed (a popup said), and reopening the app redirected me to a setup app which reinstalled the whole thing. In the process of trying to avoid that, I deleted the Agent folder in the Users/Shared/Battle.net/ directory (still had to reinstall, though).

So either deleting the Agent folder or reinstalling the battle.net app fixed it. I did not reinstall WoW; that folder is unchanged.

Side note, anyone know why the battle.net would suddenly want to reinstall itself?
