With the buff to CL coming in 9.0.5 would that make chains of devastation more interesting for Resto in M+?
Tidal definitely seems good if kind of dull game play wise. Chains looks more fun but going oom every pull from lightning spam is probably not ideal either!
Chains is interesting but the mana cost for Resto is prohibitive. It does not feel viable for M+ when you’re actually pushing, it seems like the sort of thing that only works when you’re doing content you’re already confident with and just want to win harder/faster.
I’m thinking that the Spiritwalker’s Tidal Totem legendary effect will probably win out, since it was just barely behind the Tidal Core anyways and is getting a buff to it’s mana cost reduction. Jonat’s is also getting a huge buff and it will be interesting to see if something happens with that.
Unless it actually buffed the spell I would have to agree. Cool idea but its fairly bad IMO compared almost any other option. Maybe even a mana reduction, but stand alone I will never use this legendary myself.
For Restoration the Legendary loses both the additional 50% damage for Chain Lightning and the 100% mana cost reduction for Chain Heal. It ONLY makes one or the other instant.
I’m honestly not sure why it wasn’t just an Ele Legendary since Enh also wouldn’t want to spam chain lightnings and its gutted for Resto.
Question about the leggo, does the 50% DMG/0 Mana proc the instant cast? Heard somewhere awhile ago that you couldnt just go back and forth back and forth, but that was months ago.
Edit: Ok I just realized (again) while doing Torghast I thought Chains of Devastation was worse than it was because its also a Torghast power… that doesnt have the 50% DMG Amp/Cost Reduction. Maybe the Legendary with CL buff can find some use.
The only place I have found a strong use for this legendary is as elemental in 40man Ashran bgs.
Due to the standoff nature of the bg and the map funneling teams directly into each other you can get excellent results with chain lightning and heal spam. Combined with aftershock for extra earthquakes, the amount of aoe pressure you can provide is solid to the frontline between cleave and knockdowns, mixed with caps and earthbinds. This can be weaved between flame shocks and surge procs and it’s not uncommong that my healing is on pace with one of the healer specs of the bg.
I think the new Jonat’s will make a deluge+High tide build be the best in certain fights. If a Raid boss has everyone stacked throughout the whole fight… getting +20% deluge chain heal buff+ Jonat’s +20*% buff+High Tide Buff, with promordial wave giving instant 5 stack of Jonat’s… so a 20%+deluge +100% Jonat’s Buff+ 10% high tide(w/ no decrease on jumps… getting a 130% buffed chain heal no decrease, is crazy.
I’m sure in mythic+ it would be good too, but it would make some conscious strategy and planning for people to stand in your rain as much as they can, and in chain heal range. Some affix it would be bad.
I’ve actually played this build a LOT because I find the “meta” legendary PTC really boring. And while I do enjoy it from a “fun” perspective, it’s not quite what I had hoped.
This is actually more difficult to pull off than you might think, but worse than that these chain heals end up being SO strong that they overheal for a lot. You also burn through mana WAY faster. Nothing crazy, but if I just run PTC with the standard build and don’t use CH as normal I never get below 70% or so.
I was able to get competitive numbers, (like I didn’t feel BAD for running it) but it was just slightly behind, MUCH more difficult, and a lot more mana consumed. And Chain Heal only heals four people now, so it would just be easier/more useful to cast Wellspring, which heals for a comparable amount but spread among the entire group. And Primordial Wave from Necrolords does make this legendary more appealing/fun, especially with the Tumbling waves resets!
But I think it’s DEFINITELY worth a try and makes the gameplay a lot more engaging while still being competitive! It also makes healing Prideful a breeze, which I don’t normally have trouble with, but that might be another scenario you could try this legendary with.
