The reason I decided to main a pure dps is specifically because I don’t want to tank/heal on my main. If I did, I would have not picked a pure dps.
The main problem here being, they’ve not done so well recently designing and balancing the class/specs they already have. And you want to add more?! Also more tank/heal specs does not equal more people tanking and healing. If Blizzard gave up balancing (at least attempting to) then all class diversity vanishes. Everyone will simply roll the best tank, or dps, or heal spec. Also balancing classes doesn’t have to equal homogenizing classes.
Let’s just fix the ones we have first.
They would sooner prune specs than add more work for a shrinking development team and a dying game.

It would be better to change a tree on the pure DPS classes to be a tank or healer tree rather than create more trees.
Not that I trust them to balance a fourth spec per class, although I’d be down for it.
If anything, we’ll get them with another “class matters” xpac but we’re probably a bit away from that.
You can do heroic dungeons with 5 dps if you really wanted to. You don’t balance around trivial content.
Dev team is shrinking? They are literally hiring more devs to expand it.
If your not going to give me a true Necromancer class then give me a proper ranged corpse summoning DK spec!

I don’t find I want more specs for each class - i’d rather see 1) a one spec class based on each races primary traits and lore (wardens, shadow priest, etc…) or 2) some sort of “prestige” class system that let you diversify your current class/spec tool kit at max level.
But…
I would call this “Thug” - though it would have the basic rogue tool kit but it would be really tanky, use a mace/billy club/sock full of coins and break your legs for missing your weekly protection payment.
For other Warcraft games yeah, for Classic yeah, Diablo yeah, Overwatch,yeah, but BFA WoW? Haven’t read anything other than Lore crying on Twitter about developers being fired and complaing about the community he manages.
Sock full of coin would be a cool weapon choice for rogues. Provided it sounded like Private Pyle getting hit when you swung them.

I can give you a citation on dev teams expanding.
I think a healing rogue spec called the torturer could work. Basically the healing is melee and single target. The target being healed loses control of their character while the torturer is healing them. The animation could be that the target healed is laying strapped down to the bench while the torturer water boards them with healing potions. Thank me later blizz.
I think there’s definitely some interesting ideas being proposed.

No, more like a melee priest that does shadow and holy damage with a staff or polearm.
