9.0 Class Speculation Thread

Now, we have had a lot of posts with Blizzcon around the corner on what the new Class or Classes maybe. We have a vocal group wanting a Tinker/Tinkologist class based on the original WoW RPG game and as we have seen in the WC3. Some wanting Dark Ranger and a smaller group wishing for Witch Doctors. This post will be about what I believe may happen, it is all speculation and mostly for fun.

Now with the upcoming expansion looking to expose more on the lore of how Death and the Shadowlands interact with the world. We also know that Death/Necromantic magic is the main strength we have against the Void Lords/Old Gods I feel it would be the perfect time to see a true Necromancer class introduced into WoW. On top of that with the datamined information showing the allied races and Pandarian joining the ranks of the Ebon blade as Death Knights it only makes sense that we would see Necromancy and Death magic revisited.

I’d like to share my thoughts on what a Necromancer would look like and how, while thematically Similar to it’s Death Knight counterpart, it can easily stand alone and be a unique playing experience. I mean look at Demon Hunters and Warlocks they share many themes and are easily identifiable from each other.

Necromancer: Should have three specs in a similar naming convention to Death Knight’s. Not all Specs should be pet focused at all, and I would encourage to only One of these specs having any pet at all.

Blood: Would be similar to Discipline priest, focusing on doing damage and weaving the health of enemies against them to bolster their allies. Able to buff tanks and friendly targets with armor of flesh and bone, creating wells of blood that will give life draining and leech effects to nearby allies as well. These masters of Blood Magic can already be seen in game with some of the things the Blood Trolls can do now.

Unholy: Would be a pet focused DPS Class. They would not focus on large hulking abominations, but rather overwhelming targets with massive amounts of skeletons and zombie fodder. They would have abilities like Corpse explosion to do massive aoe damage, and even sacrifice skeletons in a similar vein to Implosion for Demonology Warlocks, but maybe it will give them Mana back or Resource Back think of Dark Pact Lich ability from WC3. They would also have some bleed and disease damage in some fashion that would empower their skeletons and zombies to do additional damage/attack speed.

Frost: Finally we would have Frost, which would focus more on withering appointments away by sapping life and heat from them. They would have power CC abilities, not sure if people recall the spell Wither, but it makes the target very slow with an increasing ramp up over time. Maybe some Shadow Fissure aoe, a powerful shadow and frost infused ability that shadow the ground below enemies. Frost Blast could do a minor stun or root effects. Once again this spec could cause bleeding/disease effects, but more of a focus on powerful single target specs and aoe’s rather than pets.

These are just my rough ideas, I would also like to see Phylacteries and Lich Form somehow implemented into the class, maybe Lich Form can be a resource build up and dump ability, allowing you access to increase power while in the form and giving you more resilience. Also this would be a ranged cloth wearing class.

I would love to hear everyone’s ideas about a potential Class that could be released in 9.0 or even add to my idea of a WoW Necromancer. Thanks again for reading this post and have a good day, I look forward to reading everyone’s class ideas.

Why would we fight the void if we defeat Nzoth?

In wotlk we did accept the death knights but the light was our stronger ally vs. Him.

If we’re contesting the entity death himself, every individual he kills bolsters his ranks. An army of mechanations sounds like the strongest defense.

To me though death knight has a pseudo ranged spec with unholy currently.

If the fire DK spec becomes true. I could see fire becoming the melee dot dps dk spec and unholy being reworked to become the necromancer highly requested class. Similar to how people wanted pirate class but combat got reworked to be that class fantasy

I’m cautiously optimistic for a tinker class. I think it’d be fun. But I could just as easily see Blizz break with the pattern and not add any new classes in 9.0.

If they are going to break the pattern I would be ok with a complete overhaul of all the classes or add elite specs a fourth or fifth tree basically to the current ones as well. Maybe bring in a true support spec but that would take way to much redesign of the game for me to hope for it.

The issue is the “Curse of Flesh” effects mechanations and titan creations. It made us weak and easily manipulated by the Old Gods. Undeath makes you immune to this curse which is their greatest weapon. Also, N’zoth is hinted as not being as strong as some of his Kinda and considering the Void Lords are as powerful or more powerful than Titans and the universe as we saw is mostly corrupted by the void at this point.

Why do people think death magic is some kind of silver bullet against the void? The reference to the void and death is that the undead are more resistant to the whispers of the void.

Okay but there’s no old God threat.

Magni literally says in 8.3 we’ve completely eradicated old god threat from Azeroth.

Shadow(Void)=/= Death.

Just like light=/=life

Void lords exist outside of our reality. They were trying to get through by corrupting a titan to be their champion. The void claims that the light has made a deal with the enemy of all .

They constantly refer to death as the enemy of all

Who in the hell wants a witch doctor class? i have never seen anyone want that.

The two top classes that people want and have been seen on here are
Necromancers
tinkers

also ive been seeing a lich class

He probably meant shadow hunter.

Witch doctors are just troll priest

Also they would not name the specs of the necromancer as the same as the dk

if there was that class i see them as a range mail class. wow has never added a brand new range class. also we really could use a new mail wearer.

but yes i see two specs. maybe 3
One - a healer spec that siphons life from the enemies to heal allies.

two- a dps spec that summons the undead to fight for him so a pet class similar to demonology

3 - a dps spec that uses death magic with no pets like what sylvanas used against saurfang

Necromancers shouldnt happen.

I dont want to see the following specs gutted:
Unholy
Blood
Frost (dk)
Frost (mage)
Affliction
Demonology (again)

It would be much simplet to just add a glyph for warlocks changing their skills to necromancer spells.

If the texture mining is anything, they aren’t adding a new class, just adding Death Knights for allied races. :face_vomiting:

I’d love to see additional specs added to some classes - a Tank Rogue, Tank Shaman, Holy Damage Caster (priest or paladin), Healing DK (blood dk, but heals allies), interesting things like this.

Fire DKs are unlikely to happen. Bits of the new opening cutscene were pieced together from strings, and it seems like the pandaren and AR Death Knights are created by Sylvanas.

why would these get gutted for a necromancer? they would take nothing from any of these specs. only one spec would be similar to demo, but blizz could easily make it different.

Absolutely not. specs would be pruned even more then they are. because then each spec would be less unique to make way for another one.

and after bfa with how bad classes are they really shouldnt add another spec to them. they need to focus on each spec there is now to make them better.

and if they do make each spec play amazing next expansion then i will gladly be happy if they dont add another class.

but they really do need to add a new range mail wearer class. they’ve never added a range class yet. just 3 melee classes

Every time a new class has been added to the game, it was tightly tied into the theme of the expansion at the time. In Wrath, we had Death Knights. In MoP, we had Monks. In Legion, we had Demon Hunters. With this next expansion almost certainly being Death themed, then I think we can safely nix Tinkers from the mix entirely.

That said, what Death classes can we bring in? We already have Death Knights, so I’m going to have to go with Necromancers.

Now, on to specs. I’ll call them Necrotic, Unholy, and Blood, for the moment.

Necrotic: This spec would be a debuff-focused spec, like the Warlock’s Affliction spec. Focusing on diseases and poisons, possibly with some area debuffs. Light on direct damage, or even DoTs, the spec is focused on crippling and disabling enemies, making them easy to take down.

Unholy: This would be the minion spec, like a Demon spec warlock. Everything is focused on improving their undead minions, and giving them more options. Perhaps has an ability like Enslave Demon that works on undead, or a way to temporarily raise fallen foes as undead minions.

Blood: This would be a healing spec. Yeah, weird, but hear me out. Everything focuses on draining health and transferring it to the Necromancer or another person.

I actually imagine any Death Knight using fire mage would be in lot of excruciating pain from casting any spell, even being immensely painful infused with it.

As most people think today, cosmic element do not just come out of nowhere and claim they are some new force looking for real estate, I could obvious tell Fire is a mixture of Light and Fel.

I doubt that since it has encrypted Bolvar and Darion voice lines

Death knights don’t use magic though, it’s their runeblades and fire runes exist.

“The single most important piece of equipment to a Death Knight, it’s runeblade. It is through the runeblade that a death knight commands the powers of frost, blood and the unholy. The runeblade also acts as a vessel to store the death knight’s runic power”

I think there will be no new classes. With community being so vocal about class design, they are probably busy with existing class overhaul. At least it’s what I would like to believe. Let them fix existing classes and then think about adding new ones.

there will be none. Mark my words. They’ve mentioned tons of times that there’s too many classes making balancing a nightmare.

They will balance all current classes and most likely the big gimmick is gonna be the ability to choose any race on any faction.

but there will not be any more new classes for sure.
