8.3 Is Nothing But Unrewarding, Pointless Grinds

The new patch is nothing but grinds for the sake of grinds and endless RNG upon RNG. It’s like Blizzard doesn’t even care any longer. Their new design philosophy is simply to send the player to do a bunch of grinds without any real rewards or interesting story behind it. Patch 8.3 is like a Skinner Box that they didn’t bother to disguise.

And before anyone says it, I understand WoW has always had grinds. But they were always cleverly designed to stay mostly hidden with enticing rewards at the end. And they had did have a well defined end before - not the endless grind we have now.

Like leveling for example. It was a grind to get max level but players could always look forward to getting cool new abilities or picking new talents along the way. Now? It’s nothing but endless leveling with no new talents or abilities. It’s leveling for the sake of leveling. Why level up if there’s no reward for doing so?

Alternatively, look at the dailies we have in 8.3. The dailies in previous expansions were pretty widely varied (from kissing frogs to rolling down the Great Wall of Panda), were usually progressive (unlocking more of the story line and new quests), had cool stuff happening in them (Bloodmoon in Draenor) or at the bare minimum offered amazing rewards like in Legion with a chance of getting legendaries and mountains of gold.

Now what do we have? Terrible rewards and quests that are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Could they not have boosted the rewards or taken the B.C to MOP format, where the quests were progressive and led to bosses and final quests?

Or even look at gear. Grinding for gear used to be a long slog but you always had a goal. Sure, you might run the same dungeon dozens of time but the dungeon was fun and you were excited to finally see the helm you wanted drop. Currently, I have no idea if the gear I get is good, and I doubt I could tell you the name of any a single. Most of the time I have to another site to see if it’s an upgrade since ilvl means virtually nothing. Players have to endlessly grind gear that may be an upgrade if you’re lucky. There’s no end to it, no goal.

And don’t even get me started on the cloak and the Heart of Azeroth. Those are literally grinding numbers for virtually nothing. Fun.

I really enjoy WoW, but this patch feels like a grind without Blizzard giving me any reason to grind. On many levels, it feels worse than even the BC daily quests, where at least there was interesting stuff at the end and they had pretty cool story lines. But now? Go find 3 rares? That’s not an interesting story and the reward sucks. And aside from rotating every few days, they never change and never progress.

How did the game play regress so far?

You are 100% correct this game has gone downhill since pathfinding in WoD . You shouldn’t have to grind, the game should just be fun. You shouldn’t have to unlock a race or faction to start enjoying the game. You have leveling for that. The game is also unplayable from the crazy loading times in Dal to falling through the floor when you portal to Argus.

Can’t argue with you. 8.3 is disappointing not sure why they felt the need to add more grinds other than extending time played until the next expansion.

Don’t forget punishing. No cloak upgrade for you due to bug, but get grinding those 10k visions for a RNG chance at it working next time!

I don’t think they dont care, they’re just clueless.

Current WOW devs isn’t on the level of OG WOW devs like Jordan, Pardo, GC, and Kaplan, and Metzen.

Blizzard has never cared and never will care.
They are business first and foremost.
WoW is so big it wont fail, so they don’t care.

Nah from 12m to 4m to 1.7m.

Do we have the official numbers?
Sure they dropped from 12m, but we haven’t had official numbers since WoD I think?

What do you expect? This is how its always been after they release the info about the new expansion.

This time period is more about appealing to the addicts that lack the brain capacity to quit. So all they have to do is ensure the game feeds the “dopamine receptors” of the vulnerable minds. Meanwhile they invest all their real resources into the upcoming expansion in hopes to claim stronger minds for more than two months.

And where are the NPCs? I have been flying around and around for so long now, there are no ‘Eye of the Empires’ anywhere.

The only thing I’m wondering is what I’m aiming for. Legion for example my end goal was to get mage tower appearances before they disappeared.

Feels like I’m grinding just for the sake of grinding right now…?

In early BFA, ocore announced leaked subs API and they found out its 1.7m, Blizzard went out of their way to a premium cheating site to tell them to remove the post and screenshot of the API.

If it’s not true they would just ignore a random post from a cheating site, especially from its premium forum that you need to pay for its access.

Oh my.

And my bags are now FILLED with stuff for Mechagon, stuff for Nazjatar, stuff for Uldum and stuff for Vale. Combine this, use that… why?

It’s frustrating.

I’m not hating it, but a tweak here or there will make me love it.

is 1.7 confirmed?

BFA.

Punishes players for playing. What should be rewarding does not reward properly, and what should not be rewarding does reward. Oh well unfortunate.

Dont you just love it when 50% of your character’s power comes from external systems that are incredibly grindy, timegated and often depend on RNG?

The design is created to pander to people who spend ridiculous amounts of time in WoW and punish the ones that dont, which is why im done with WoW until shadowlands and that is only IF shadowlands isnt the same bs

The problem is, this patch doesn’t really feed those dopamine receptors. It’s more like one big release of cortisol tbh.
