8.3 Freezing (Windows OS Thread)

I was having this problem pretty badly. I had to restart my PC, and saw the suggestion to turn Dx12 on. I was on Dx11, and switched it to 12. Plays a heck of a lot better now for me.

Switched to DX11 Legacy as suggested above but with gfx rating of 10/10. Game crashed from the memory leak issue just minutes in, I was only running Firefox which is about 1.5gb ram used, and Tixati (a bitorrent client) thatā€™s only 100mb (but seeding a ton of 1080p videos)ā€¦ I have 16gb physical ram and windows set 6gb cache. Task Manager says I have 7.5gb to spare without WoW running. nVidia drivers updated to latest, using a GTX 1070. This is unacceptable, Blizzard.

Edit: Because of the game crash, B-net app and Wow takes longer to load. Again, unacceptable.

Edit2: Come to think of it, the crash happened as I was flying into Vale of Eternal Blossoms at the southeast as I was coming from Jade Forest. Could be a bad character model related to 8.3. (Scan and Repair turned up with nothing)

I hope this is fixed asap because the crashes are making my computer act weird even after reboots.

Had the same problem. Lowered the settings but it still sounded like a jet engine. Iā€™m not super computer literate so I figured it was something else and would pass, seeing as how WoW has never been a problem before.

Ended up completely ruining my graphics card, which on an MSI 62e is welded to the motherboard. So now Iā€™m booting to a black screen and itā€™ll cost almost as much to fix as a new one. I opened a ticket and was specifically told the issue wasnā€™t WoW, even though so many other people are having this problem it obviously is.

I guess Iā€™m just SoL, eating the cost because of a lack of quality assurance.

Who feels like waiting another week for the game to be playable again? Show of hands.

Chiming in as well, major FPS drops here and there. Swapped to directx 11 legacy and suffering abysmal loading screens as well as the occasional fps drop. Graphics are the same as they were prior to the patch. This is quite frustrating.

Just adding my experience for the Blizz devs to investigate. I am running no add ons on MacOS 10.15 and getting random freezes that will fully crash my computer and (sometimes) induce a kernel panic, every time I play this game since 8.3 dropped.

Its happening to me regardless of where I am or which phase Iā€™m in. It seems to be triggered whenever thereā€™s any sort of intense fight. Itā€™s crashed on me in Warfronts, PVP, Dungeons, and even Islands. Iā€™m holding off on Visions until this is fixed. My system is MacOS and Iā€™ve never had any issues like this before in my wow experience.

Iā€™m having a terrible time too. Last week, the game kept stalling, especially whenever the dialog window popped up when approaching a world quest. Every couple of hours, the screen would go dark for a few seconds and then come back up with a ā€˜graphics card stalled and had to be restartedā€™ message.

I was sure it was my system or graphics card, so I did a complete reinstall. I donā€™t just mean WoW either. I did windows and everything. Totally fresh install, and Iā€™m still having problems. Thatā€™s also when I found out other people were having problems too.

One thing Iā€™ve noticed is that WoW is using a huge amount of memory. I donā€™t know what was typical before the patch, but I certainly donā€™t recall it using 10k-11k MB. (When I first start WoW, itā€™s using about 3.5k MB.)

As that number gets higher is when i start having more and more issues. After reinstalling, I will stall when opening the collections menu, or turning in quests. I have still had graphics card restarts, but not as many as before.

Iā€™m using Windows 8.1 (still, I know), and DirectX11.

what if were stuck with Metal graphics and lowering the graphics does nothing for a 100% to 0 fps drop. Serious code issues from within wow game itself no other games have had problems yet wow still operates on a minecraft build

Same here, I have always played with dx11 because of the better fps (80-100 fps) but because of these freezes and black screens I changed to dx12 which solves the freezing problem but with the cost of the lower fps (60fps now).
I hope blizzard finds a solution soon, staying with dx12 or dx11legacy is not an option when the quality is not the same.

Similar ā€“ I logged in and everything was large, so I went into settings an adjusted it back to how Iā€™m use to aka smaller.

New computer, retina display never had issue before 8.3. Been freezing randomly in different situations sometimes in warfront, sometimes world bosses and even island expeditions. Usually with lot of people around or npcs. Iā€™m not very tech-y when it comes to the WoW data so hopefully this is something resolved in an update quickkkkly.

I will admit this much their hands are tied when it comes to the bigger decisions and release dates. Like I also previously stated this model and conduct of business they are using these days are absolutely appalling. I played this game because it was different than other games or as you might say Mmoā€™s but sadly they just fell in line with the rest of the money grabbing companies. Donā€™t feel like they are giving us the most bang for our buck when the content they push out is causing FPS drops which like I did say was happening on the PTR. Also I heard from a little bird that messing with the AH could potentially break or mess up the game. Then people are not getting their hard earned funds poor Taliesin getting his part of the poo sandwich. Iā€™m at the point to where I donā€™t care weather this game wins or loses. The company has lost its integrity and itā€™s prowess as a fun and engaging experience. Why do you think people enjoy classic so much more even with the grind? Itā€™s because there is no cash shop begging for our hard earned dollar. Itā€™s more of a sense of accomplishment than this monopoly that is going on. Now for the devs that read this listen up this part is for you guys and gals. I understand like I have previously stated in this comment your hands are tied by the higher ups but I want ask you this one question. Would you play this game in the state it is in at this time? I know you all are having a hard time with layoffs and your bosses greed Iā€™d say you guys are getting shafted just like the players and I hate it for you all. Thatā€™s all i have to say have nice day. Bye bye now. Wouldnā€™t be surprised if I had a permanent ban waiting for but oh well I get tired of stomaching this borderline trainwreck of a patch anyway. P.S do better with Shadowlands for all the other players they deserve it after all the money they have forked over you guys have it in you just hold steadfast. Good luck  your number one hated donkey

It really doesnā€™t look like a memory leak, Iā€™ve had the game open for 10+ hours after the patch, the game just uses significantly more memory, 3.5-6 gigs, 8 does not appear to be sufficient anymore. If it was a leak the number would continue to grow since it would take more and more memory and not unallocate it. Have had multiple people run into this, blizzard closed a thread of mine telling people to check your memory usage. They claim itā€™s a leak but the behavior being exhibited by the client isnā€™t indicative of a leak, just a memory hungry game.

So patch 8.3 turned BFA into a memory hungry game requiring more than 8gigs? And there was no announcement by Blizz stating this well before patch day? Sounds like bad business.

Iā€™ve only had one instance of the game crashing due to not enough memory. Iā€™ve tried the changing to DX11 legacy fix and so far no more freezes.

Thatā€™s just what Iā€™ve noticed, again, theyā€™re claiming it may just be a memory leak at the moment. If it is, itā€™s not a standard memory leak as the memory does become available later, just not when itā€™s supposed to if thatā€™s the case. We will see in time I suppose.

Getting 100% freezes today, like clockwork, in Vale specifically while trying to fight the world boss. Everyone else in the raid was having the same problem. It is a hard freeze of audio and video, which resolves itself in about 7-10 seconds.

Definitely feels like a memory leak.

Last week it only happend rarely, and always when flying around in Boralus.

Iā€™m having the same issues as noted earlier. Game freezing. Windows 10 Home fresh install. Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 graphics card. Tried newest drivers. Tried wiping all old drivers and reinstalling an old driver that was supposed to work. Wiped that and went back to latest drivers. Lowered graphics settings. Just tried switching from Directx 11 to legacy, will see if that helps at all.
