Well to be fair, a lot of them were probably zorked out of their minds during the 70ā€™s and 80ā€™s and have just forgotten all about that time period.

I know Stephen King forgot he wrote Cujo.

'in my day" they did it for the show. They didnt actually BELIEVE they were something they werent.

Like I used to love watching the 75 version of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
That doesnt mean I thought grown men would dress up in BSM and walk around like that in public. lol.
What one does in the privacy of their home/bedroom is none of my business, however, as long as its consenting ADULTS.

editā€¦and let me point out here that KISS was shunned by MOST of the music industry. You rarely ever heard them on the radio UNTIL Lick it up came out and the make up was off and they acted more ā€˜normalā€™.
Some stations might play Rock and roll all nite occasionally, but to hear KISS a lot, you had to play it yourself for the most part.

Its not like everyone in the industry LOVED the makeup and got all gaga over it. They didnt. KISS was ridiculed for YEARS till they unmasked.

While the 70s gave us all of those ā€œglam rockā€ bands, they also gave us disco.

The 80s on the other hand gave us new romantic, post punk, and unfortunately eMpTy Vee. It became a decade where music truly evolved into an art form where you had to put on a real performance for your great musicā€¦

Then the 90s came along and music took a back seat to corporate created ā€œartistsā€ that cared more about how they looked than how they actually soundedā€¦
